🤣🤣🤣

That's so laughably pathetic as always from the DE. Anyway to twist it to attack the BBC

I wish they would remind people a bit more, also the billions wasted by this government Yy PP getting to the bottom of fraudulent PPE contracts & all the other dodgy dealings Labour have so much ammunition they should start using some it.

I don't think there's much point. Most people simply won't be able to grasp such numbers. It's like astronomical distances. Very few people can really get their heads around what a light year is (for example).

Just for reference, the number of seconds since the birth of our lord and saviour, taking into account bank holidays is

Sixty-three billion, nine hundred one million, ninety-four thousand, four hundred

They don’t need to. The Tories are destroying themselves without any help.

Very true, just get a bit fed up of listening to soundbites which is probably the most sensible thing to do considering Johnson & Sunak are the epitome of soundbites.

This is a noble advert and not at all sexist and definitely would still happen if the deputy leader was a man.

I'm finding it extremely pleasing to see predictions of the cons keeping fewer than 100 seats.

But the combined vote share of conservative and reform is really worrying. Will they merge after the election?

I'm off work on July 5th. I'd lie to think I'll be sensible and not sit up till all hours watching the results come in and the speculation before they do, but I doubt I'll manage to sleep much.

Evenstar · 08/06/2024 15:49

Just to give a bit of hope, there are still good people in this world, I have just come in from seeing the Dave Day ride in memory of Dave Myers the Hairy Biker passing on the motorway. The bridges over the motorway were packed with people waving and cheering them on, the bikers were waving and blowing their horns and had Hawaiian shirts and flags, lorry drivers and motorists were joining in blowing their horns and flashing their lights.

Despite what the Tories have done to divide the country with Brexit and culture wars, we still want to come together even for someone we didn’t know personally. We mustn’t lose sight of that.

That’s a ripoff of the Spitting Image puppet of David Owen with David Steele in his pocket, isn’t it?

@mibbelucieachwell at least you won't be alone that night, I imagine quite a few of us on these threads will be pulling an all nighter. Let's see how many threads we get through!

DuncinToffee · 08/06/2024 16:01

I never really watched Spitting Image, so no idea

Hopefully there will be plenty of other threads alongside and we can keep this one as our friendly bubble.

One of the biggest cons perpetrated by the Conservative was that during Covid "NHS Test & Trace" was actually outsourced and over priced in England (in Scotland it was still part of our Public Health system) and not part of the NHS - to the enrichment of cronies Angry, whereas the Covid vaccination programme - which was run by the NHS wasn't labelled as such Hmm

That, along with all corruption (awarding contracts to cronies) and fraud, goes a long way to explaining the high tax burden we are all experiencing, as well as "justifying" the Conservative claim that they have put money into the NHS (and supposedly fulfilling their promise of an extra £350 million NHS dividend as a result of Brexit) without any appreciable improvements HmmConfused It also helps them (and Farage Hmm) make the claim that investing in the NHS is a bottomless pit and it would be better off privatised. Angry

Oh, there'll be a gazillion threads ranging from the Tory Rage threads to the Major Schadenfreude threads. I'll probably pop in on both. But I'm really looking forward to spending the night in present company.

We have a biker club up the road from me - they are prolific in charity funding. I can just imagine how unifying it was.

The world has changed so much. I was so confident that we wouldn’t “leave” as I live in a multicultural area. Still there now and there’s so much more division. It didn’t surprise me that it was mentioned that the West Mids has the highest knife crime. In a year 2 boys have been murdered in a mile of where I live thanks to gangs and county lines. Both deaths happened in daylight. I can’t remember the last time I saw a PC, community or otherwise.

My first introduction to “Spitting Image” was being allowed to stay up past “London’s Burning” when I got “old enough”.

I’ve just got in from a journey along the (other side of) the A590. It was bloody amazing, people lining the roads to wave and clap and cheer. The bridges full too, and the M6 ones. If you could bottle it, that’s the spirit of the UK and no wheedling, insincere, pocket-lining politician would even recognise it, let alone be able to rouse it. ❤️❤️ I was genuinely touched by it.

Their names will be taken. They will be traced. They will be re-educated.
