The 2024 General Election has

4,519 candidates from 98 parties.

The candidates are approximately 69% male.

Every seat has between 5 (89 seats) and 13 (Richmond and Northallerton) candidates. An average of 7.

Lots of people trying to unseat Sunak maybe?

It's quite normal for the incumbent PM to have lots of people standing against them.

Boris Johnson attracted a lot of candidates in his seat.

Looks like it. The Official Monster Raving Loony Party is standing there as well

Binface always stands against the sitting PM. It was May in 2017.

IClaudine · 08/06/2024 11:05

Just imagine if But Corbyn had come out with what Johnson has said. Corbyn would have been slaughtered in the press for being anti-semetic. I remember him being criticised over his pronunciation of "Epstein".

What a disgusting man Johnson is. He has got a nerve accusing Starmer of being a grifter, given Johnson himself is the biggest grifter of all

Different media rules though....

Boris has the media get out clause

CCHQ must be a fun place to be at the moment 😮

Johnson will say anything for attention.
Grubby little man.

I don't know whether he understood the meaning/history of the language he used - I do know that he should care.

Bigcoatlady · 08/06/2024 12:24

I was puzzled by the Schnorrer thing and had to google what it meant. Then it turns out he's used it incorrectly.

I also think of gimp as meaning image processing software so that took some parsing.

They're paying him £1million a year for this bollocks.

DuncinToffee · 08/06/2024 12:56

Rishi Sunak not doing national media interviews today despite doing campaign visits.

Report also adds that off camera questions from reporters have also been cancelled today.

He really, really doesn’t get it, does he? CCHQ must be in despair.

The disintegration of the Tory party continues unabated. Serves the fuckers right for drinking from the Brexit chalice.

Amusing quip from the ever affable Geoff Norcott on the News Quiz last night.

"I hear Farage has set out to destroy the Tory party, but that ship's sailed mate."

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/06/2024 14:00

Reporters ask questions on behalf of the public. They are our voice. When he refuses to engage with them, he refuses to engage with us. He is showing utter contempt for us.

None of which is news though.

If this election was a concert, then where are the old favourites ? The encores ? The classics ?

It seems we are seeing what "Jazz Odyssey" would look like if left to the Tories. Maybe they need to revive that idea about a jack the ripper musical ...

"Saucy Jack ... you're a naughty one;
Saucy Jack, you're a haughty one ..."

^^

I don't know @SerendipityJane.

But Sunak is singing in D minor.

All I can picture now, is an 18" Stonehenge descending from the sky behind Rish! as he drones on.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/06/2024 14:19

I was confused when the tories had their leadership contest. We hadn't seen much of Sunak, he was just sort of there, a man in a suit. Liz Truss was out and about, in your face and clearly mad as as hatter. I couldn't get why they chose someone so obviously off their trolley.

Now I do. They knew what he was like. They recognised that an absolute fruit loop was worth a punt ahead of this angry, aggressive, entitled twat.

Truss was chosen by the membership. Despite a lot of love for the Rish!ster then, a few posters - myself included - put their money on Truss based on a close study of Tories over the years. The result would have been the same no matter how much we had - or had not - seen of Sunak.

The fact she won, I consider a vindication. And if anything, the reasons Sunak lost the membership vote have only got stronger, not weaker. Sorry Kemi.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say.

L1ttledrummergirl · 08/06/2024 15:14

I'm wondering now if Sunak will hold his seat given the amount of military in that area. I think Penny may also have talked herself out of a job.

Everytime someone mentions £2000, I think of Sunak ditching the veterans and avoiding the dday commemoration- the two have become intrinsically linked, so if you continue to support the lie, you are also supportive of Sunaks decision to leave.

Just because they think that saying a weak half arsed apology, with no actions to back means everyone should forget and move on, it doesn't make it the case.

Labour just need to remind everyone of this at everytime, along with the Queen at the funeral of Prince Phillip, the pictures of the parties, Sunaks FPN.

pointythings · 08/06/2024 15:26

@L1ttledrummergirl on electino night, there will be a bottle of champagne in my fridge. The plan is to open it if Suffolk West goes to Labour - but if Rishi loses his seat before that, it's getting cracked open then.

dontcallmelen · 08/06/2024 15:26

I wish they would remind people a bit more, also the billions wasted by this government Yy PP getting to the bottom of fraudulent PPE contracts & all the other dodgy dealings Labour have so much ammunition they should start using some it.
