I don’t think any of us were excusing him, and I certainly don’t think he is neuro diverse. I have a son with autism who would never have done what Sunak did yesterday. My son is kind and empathetic and although he sometimes finds social situations tricky and doesn’t always say the right thing he is always trying his best and that shines through.
Sunak for whatever reason showed no understanding of the importance of yesterday’s commemoration and an apology today doesn’t alter his unforgivably offensive behaviour. I think that this will prove to be a turning point.
