Forgot to add the image … is anyone else’s local Tory MP as batshit as mine?

Probably

newnamethanks · 01/06/2024 10:20

Oh stop it, D-Ream, that was a moment of great pleasure for thousands of us. May it be on repeat for the next 10 years minimum. Think of the royalties.

newnamethanks · 01/06/2024 10:23

It's their USP these days @MrsMurphyIWish , fierce competition between them.

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2024 10:24

It's a bit of a wishywashy reponse from D-ream. At least M People made it clear what they thought of Truss using their song.

Three new policies announced by Gove HmmGrin

https://x.com/Conservatives/status/1796642022435979307

This is how we're going to bring common sense back to our communities.

FPNs can already be issued against fly tippers, as can much bigger fines. That is a non policy

Evicting troublesome social tenants - to where? Sounds expensive

Pavements- clearly a focus group answer similar to cleaning up dogshit.

What a load of arse. The plan is, there is no plan.

Hopefully someone can ask Rishi what the plan is. Halving the economy, growing waiting times, falling growth and failed legislation on boats?

Fly-tipping: council responsibilities

How local authorities must deal with fly-tipping and the penalties they can charge.

Don’t post for a day or two and you are already 8 pages into a new thread.

Sorry am unable to pay cat tax.

We’ll have to fine you, I’m afraid. Got any flowers? Or a dog?

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/06/2024 10:34

Thanks @DuncinToffee. It'll be good to see what I'm walking into when I visit a drelative.

Be prepared for what I'm facing.

Tories pledge £20m each for 30 towns
Rishi Sunak's party says the £6bn raised through tax avoidance clampdown will "transform" towns across the UK

Nearly all are being defended by Tory candidates in this election, with only five being most recently represented by Labour.

This £6b must be magic, it is going to solve everything

Tories pledge £20m each for 30 towns

Rishi Sunak's party says the £6bn raised through tax avoidance clampdown will "transform" towns across the UK - but Labour claims the pledge is "sure to be broken as quickly as it was made".

De-lurking to point out that my town is on that list to receive £20m in funding and yet the Tories haven't even decided who our conservative candidate is yet ...

£20m for Preston, I see an escalation in the number of old buildings that accidentally go on fire (and there’s already been quite a few).
Preston needs jobs, a joined up travel plan that encourages people to come in and shop and oh yes, actual shops for those people to shop in, preferably not on the site of lovely old buildings that accidentally went on fire….

Churchview · 01/06/2024 11:01

The South West barely ever gets a mention on these lists and there are some towns here that could really benefit from a leg up. It's almost as though they don't choose the towns based on real need but as though there's some other agenda at play. OH!

Thank you for that. So powerful. Retweeted.

Evenstar · 01/06/2024 11:29

I have also retweeted the powerful song by the Marsh family, it moved me to tears and reminded me of this poem by Rudyard Kipling. My values as someone who is at the very end of the “Boomer” generation could not be further removed from those of this vile government. As someone who has a son serving willingly in the forces I have huge pride in him, but no wish to see other people’s children forced to serve.

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2024 11:51

Just looked at the list. Anyone Scottish on here? Helensburgh is an interesting choice. I lived there as a child. I'm sure it's a bit run down but it's hardly poverty stricken compare with, say, Greenock... And Perth??? Seriously??

My town isn't on there - even though it is the most marginal constituency in the country, and has a Labour MP but an elected Tory mayor and is next to a seat that will potentially go back to the Tories. Strategically, it would have made sense. Also, it's a bit of a shithole these days.

MrsMurphyIWish · 01/06/2024 06:39

Mines Braverman. There's a whole host of words I could use to describe her and Batshit would be mild 😂

prettybird · 01/06/2024 12:28

@Piggywaspushed - I had a quick look at the Scottish towns that were on that list.

By some very strange coincidence Wink, they were all constituencies where the Tory came a good second (or in the one exception, a close third) so in their dreams they think that they can win them through bribes initiatives like this. Hmm

Not that I necessarily think that the SNP will be able to retain them - Labour will win most of them (because voters swallow the trope that Labour needs the Scottish seats in order to get a majority Confused so will vote Labour in order to get the Conservatives out - as well as to give the incumbent Scottish Government a kicking).

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2024 12:30

Oh, yes, what a bizarre coincidence indeed!

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2024 12:32

Is Helensburgh in the seat that was lost by Jo Swinson? That seems like a whole lifetime ago in Scottish politics...

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2024 12:34

So far we have only received a Lib Dem leaflet.

The reform candidate used to be a conservative and the Tory candidate was involved in claims of nepotism and vote rigging in Ealing 2020

Green and Labour candidates are new

Does anyone know how many candidates the Conservatives have left to select.....by Friday?

I hope that all their social media posts, background etc is being checked out. Just to avoid any surprises.
