I can’t believe those polls. I’m dreaming, aren’t I?

Shame they spelled licence wrong.

Is it me? Fly tipping is not even 127th on the list of things I worry about.

*edited to correct my own spelling mistake 😂

DSis's cat when we were cat sitting - Chartreux, apparently.

His response is terrible. He really is a liability.

You'd think it might have occurred to Sunk that that question was going to come up so that he had a better response to it ready. The only way he could have handled it worse would have been to answer "We hate young people because you don't vote for us" and at least that would have been honest.

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/06/2024 00:09

I notice that there is nothing on Goves 3 points about bad landlords, or stopping no fault evictions.

The Tory perception of poor people is fucking awful. They don't include bad neighbours who own their homes, just going after renters. They have an image of the people of this country that is so far removed from reality It's unbelievable.

Bloody clueless.

They need to catch the fly tippers first. Fines already exist but not administered because (in my area) tippers throw rubbish off country lanes - no camera to catch them.

Woke up to another FB community post from our local Tory MP - again stating that Labour will ruin Britain. Have asked him why his campaign is all about Labour where his opponent is out and about in the community, and not mentioning Conservatives.

MrsMurphyIWish · 01/06/2024 06:39

Forgot to add the image … is anyone else’s local Tory MP as batshit as mine?

The worst neighbours I ever had rented privately off a relative.
Fly tipping is horrible and a blight on many areas but who is going to monitor it to catch offenders - no one.
The pavements round here are indeed a nice little patchwork but the utility company contractors apply the new tarmac properly and seal it in. The roads are horrendous.

”You’ve had 14 years to fix all this” is going to be my answer to Tory blether from now one. With a <shrug>

Edited

I am mighty confused by the Tories position on fly tipping. I had previously assumed they were in favour of it, since they are determined to run down local councils, who run kerbside rubbish collections. My local council is consulting on reducing kerbside collection eg stopping garden waste collections as they are non-statutory and shutting most of the recycling centres, presumably with the aim of increasing fly tipping?

Another flip flop?

Didn't Johnson's neighbours have to call the police on him?

pointythings · 01/06/2024 08:34

Is anyone else concerned by the startling resemblance between Gove in that video and that man who does the spoof political interviews (whose name temporarily escapes me)?

Indeed. And It was for something a bit more serious than flytipping.

That was my memory.

Remember, we now know that the police protecting the PM are not real policemen. They are allowed to ignore crimes that take place before their very eyes and then to lie about it in questioning.

NEW: Rishi Sunak is confronted by a student who asks him why he "hates young people so much"

https://x.com/PolitlcsUK/status/1796557327002402864

‘A culture of service is a good thing’. I don’t disagree, Rishi, love. Why don’t you try serving the country instead of yourself for 5 mins?

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/06/2024 09:08

Someone could translate that into a figure. 5 minutes of Rish! time would pay for 3 entire shifts for a student nurse. Or a single shift for a policeman

(Obviously I haven't really checked the maths on that. But then neither do the Tories, so I am safe there.)

I find it so hard to believe that the ruling party of a country would have to resort to posting 'funny' little tweets about the opposition. It's a measure of their desperation that they have nothing positive to campaign on.

That's basically what I've seen so far

Labour - we will do x y and z. Or X need a to change.

Tory's- Labour are shit and will nothing.

Friend of the thread "My names Phil" noted that the Tories appear (probably from necessity) to have settled on a strong negative campaign. With a footnote that it's never really worked and it's what lost the Brexit referendum. The irony that the lessons are being learned by some and not others does warm the cockles slightly.

It's hard to avoid the feeling that the Tories are now like a company that is clearly going to go bust soon. All the talent they really can't afford to lose has long since fucked off (or been kicked out). So you are left with the useless third of the party. In fact I think a good way to swerve bot activity for a while would be to refer to the Tories as "Golgafrincham B Ark". Knowing that some distinguished commentators will think that's a Scottish constituency.
