From yesterday

https://x.com/tomorrowsmps/status/1796704240720568381

By my reckoning, Labour now has selected all its election candidates, though one or two more vacancies may arise from retirements, deaths or purgings.
The Conservatives in stark contrast still have abouit 150 candidates to announce, including 23 in current Tory seats.

Does anyone know how many candidates the Conservatives have left to select.....by Friday?

I hope that all their social media posts, background etc is being checked out. Just to avoid any surprises.

...i'm hoping they don't check....

Knowing what a woman is?

I'd laugh if it wasn't such a serious example of the Conservatives approach to "knowing what a woman is"

Is Helensburgh in the seat that was lost by Jo Swinson? That seems like a whole lifetime ago in Scottish politics...

No - that was East Dunbartonshire. Which she'd held before and lost to SNP's John Nicolson, won it back in 2017 and then lost it again (by just over 100 votes Shock), when she was leader of the LibDems, to SNP's Amy Callaghan.

It was my dad's constituency and he told Jo Swinson when she came round canvassing that he couldn't and wouldn't vote for her any more (even though she'd been a good constituency MP) as for him, Scottish Independence was a higher priority (up until the 2000s, he'd not been in favour).

Only had 1 leaflet from the current mp who was tory, then reclaim, now independent.

Labour candidate and tory candidate both on FB posting

Nothing from others

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2024 13:09

This is insane. CONSERVATIVE candidate @robertlargan releases ‘Labour for Largan’ campaign. He has a Reform version too.

And you have to go to the About section of his website to find out he’s a Conservative - no branding anywhere on the homepage.

They are literally hiding from their own party.

Ah, OK. Even though I'm from there, I get my Easts and Wests all muddled!

I thought campaign materials (online or otherwise) must reference who is responsible for the advert.

To be honest if he's that desperate to mislead voters I don't suppose he cares much about electoral rules.

Was just about to post about this. It's bonkers. It's got to be illegal.

Evenstar · 01/06/2024 13:32

I have looked at the Electoral Commission’s website and complaints about Robert Largan need to be made to Derbyshire Police, if you go to their website and search Electoral Fraud there is an online form.

I have made a complaint and would urge everyone to do so, this is just utterly dishonest

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2024 13:33

According to BfB, a logo has now appeared on the homepage... (but in green, none of the usual Conservative blue)

https://news.sky.com/story/tories-pledge-20m-for-30-towns-as-labour-embarks-on-power-up-bus-tour-13146228

Tories pledge £20m each for 30 towns
Rishi Sunak's party says the £6bn raised through tax avoidance clampdown will "transform" towns across the UK

Nearly all are being defended by Tory candidates in this election, with only five being most recently represented by Labour.

This £6b must be magic, it is going to solve everything

I have an idea, it may not catch on, but bear with me.
These towns and those announced previously presumably have a local town council, or whatever they are called now.
Couldn't central government just consistently fund those local governments who probably are in a good position to know what their area needs?

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2024 13:40

He also has a Reform for Robert.

Latham is assistant whip. You'd assume they'd follow rules/uphold standards but obviously not.

Notonthestairs · 01/06/2024 13:42

Largan not Latham.

The other thing about these Scottish (and Welsh and Northern Irish) towns is that in addition to being Conservative targets, they are also an attempt to undermine the devolved administration as this funding comes directly from from central (ie Westminster) Government. Hmm

And no doubt it will be outwith the Barnett formula (ie the money for the English towns won't add to the formula for the block grant Hmm) or not outwith the bounds of possibility any amounts awarded in Scotland will be deducted from the block grant Shock

Just following the party line I suppose, lie cheat swindle & if you possibly can line your own pockets, utterly disgraceful behaviour silly I suppose to expect anything less from these charlatans.
I really hope these polling stats are fairly accurate, I would take delight in the Lib Dems being the opposition & what’s left of the Tory rabble in a dark corner somewhere being ignored.

dontcallmelen · 01/06/2024 14:06

Evenstar agree with your pp, I’m also the mother of a son who willingly served in the army, very different from what these ejjits are proposing.

prettybird · 01/06/2024 14:07

Scotland will lose what small voice it has in Westminster, as if it's no longer the third largest party, it will only occasionally get questions at PMQs. Sad

It would be lovely though if the Conservatives ended up as the 3rd party Grin

It's too much to hope that they'll end up with less than 15 seats, which is my personal prediction for the SNP Wink

Reform are already sinking in the polls. And that will only accelerate as reporting starts to match polling and the LibDems and Greens start getting their allotted times (reducing Reforms).

This means they must receive the appropriate level of coverage based on their past and current electoral support.

Love that.

(However National Service soldiers did not just spend months in Cyprus - and some were killed on active service)

My dad did his national service out in Malaysia during the Malaysian conflict, where he was shot in the arm. Shot by his mate as they were 18 year olds pissing about with their weapons. He's a good example of why the military don't support this.
