Just NC and disrupt them?

There are a few loons on here but they need to be challenged.

Esp when they continually bring in the Trans nonsense into every single thread .... i'm looking forward the Tour de france one soon but i suspect someone will jump in with Robert Millar/Pippa York arrrhhhhgg!!!!

There is a whole Sewing Bee thread in FWR , simply because there is a drag queen who they thought uses they /them pronouns (actually within the show appears to have an entirely male persona and sew ordinary clothes). They mainly talk about sewing but imagine starting a thread about a show with a NB person in it for the reason thta you want to get away with making negative and sometimes phobic comments? It's a red line for me to coin a phrase.

There was a dreadful Pottery Throwdown thread a few years back and Doctor Who threads: even UC and Only Connect aren't immune.

Further £5 million from racist misogynist
Hester.

£15 million in total.

It's taken nearly three months to establish but finally Electoral Commission data confirms my exclusive from March - the Conservatives had already received an extra £5m from Frank Hester when the racism row was raging

Explains why they were so keen to accept his apology (to them!). Nothing to see here...

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2024 08:28

Someone on Twitter has suggested prerecording the debates. Then fact checking them. And then transmission.

I'd be a fan of this!

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2024 08:31

It won't stop the threads, or should I say threats, but is being discussed on Sky News now

"Racism is completely unacceptable " says Mel Stride on tv. Unsaid, 'but racists money is utterly acceptable. It's moolah innit? Get it in the Tory till quickly before it depreciates further. Oh, and give that man a peerage. Next please'.

Colour me surprised... (not)

I've lost track of whether any charges/investigation were brought against the delightful Hester and his disgusting comments. Presumably he's just continued to laugh it off behind closed doors. I wonder if Farage has his eyes on courting Frank - they seem like they'd make fine soulmates.

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2024 08:38

Mel Stride is being asked about the £13,000 extra in tax. He hasn't seen the figures but covid, furlough, war in Ukraine, Labour........

They might as well send a pot plant to interviews.

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/06/2024 08:40

They'd have to record about 6 hours worth to get a half hour program that would actually be watchable.

I would rather give them 45 seconds to provide a soundbite, then another couple of minutes to follow up their point, then another 45 secs to conclude. I would cut their mikes at the end of their time.
I'd also keep the camera on both, because it's good to see their body language and responses to each others points.

Watching Sunaks lack of control in shouting over Starmer, compared to the Starmers technique of putting his finger and thumb together to create pressure as a way of focusing his frustration was illuminating, you will miss things like that with a pre recorded program.

They could have fact checkers there and after each break, recap the previous segment before the debate starts again, it might extend the program, but that wouldn't be a bad thing.

newnamethanks · 06/06/2024 08:40

🪴 you called?

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2024 08:49

@L1ttledrummergirl it would just be useful for politicians (of any party) not to have the freedom to spout bilge knowing that the majority goes unchecked.

Sad that it needs to be done and possibly open to editing, but yes to stop the Farage and Trump politics becoming the new done thing, I agree.

The thing is, a lot of people don't want facts. They just want to be told they are right. (Which in Nigels case is a given.)

I think it's worse, they just want ambiguity to think they have seen the options.
So the man with the T shirt which told people not to judge him while he spewed exactly what was expected wants to be thought of as coming to the idea himself and open to change.

IClaudine · 06/06/2024 09:45

I am absolutely sick of the lies being spread on MN. I have no problem with people criticising Labour at all, but the scaremongering on here is infuriating.

On the other hand, most people seem to see through it all.

The only people who believe all the shite posted on MN will vote Tory or Reform anyway. I don't think anyone genuinely thinking of voting Labour will be put off by what they read on MN.

But it still makes me 🤬🤬🤬

BIossomtoes · 06/06/2024 09:53

It’s very different to 2019. The biggest MN issue then was tax, people then wanted to keep as much of their money as possible. The economy being vastly different now and public services falling apart so spectacularly have really changed things. It’s heartening that it’s not just the usual suspects shooting down misinformation but plenty of posters whose names/posting styles I don’t recognise either.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/06/2024 20:52

I seem to have something in my eye.

I don’t think the LDs will become the opposition but I can’t help thinking that it would make a huge difference if the PM and the leader of opposition were fundamentally decent people. Might make PMQs refreshingly dull though.

Me too, admit I had a little cry (I do cry a lot Dh reckons practically every time he looks a me I’m crying about something) carers are definitely not spoken about enough.
Just wish Farage would fuck off, sadly I can see him actually winning Clacton.

There must be a point below which you simply cannot reduce taxes anymore before the mechanism of tax collection itself fails. What with societies being organic complex organisations themselves.

Once a person becomes too weak to feed themselves, they aren't long for this world.

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2024 10:18

Wasn't there a recent YouGov poll where people preferred funding for public services over tax cuts?

I pay my taxes. They buy me civilisation.

(Those with an historical bent will know that is historically, as well as semantically and philosophically true))

There was. The Tories appear not to have noticed.

I'd love the tories to be 3rd party, as much as I dislike Ed Davey and the Lib Dems (ED does not come out well re: PO scandal).

But ds1 tells me it's pretty much impossible...

Sigh.

I just want it to be over, tbh and the rebuilding to begin.

I sense that women will need to fight hard under labour for their sex based rights, but we've done it before. We will do it again.
