Sunak doubled down again this morning and posted this. I imagine his lies will be the focus of Friday’s debate.

I am sure Angela Rayner is looking forward to calling Sunak a liar on Friday.

She doesn't need to use Parliamentary language.

BIossomtoes · 05/06/2024 22:14

I would be if I were her.

I must say Twitter has no truck with what MN thinks. I'm afraid they mainly think we're a bunch of right wing, permanently outraged over privileged women. Become a bit of a laughing stock.

Twitter can fuck off though really.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2024 22:21

MN will explode.

Also true.

I'm really struggling on mumsnet at the moment, there are so many misleading posts, with no depth to them. They smack of desperation and are very disingenuous.

If the polls are showing that the conservatives are likely to win 20% of the seats, how is it possible that 80% of the political posts on mnet are attacking Labour?Even allowing for bias, it is still difficult to see how.

I'm up for a debate, I'm happy to be persuaded to change my mind, but there is not enough depth in the posts to debate with and the defensiveness if you disagree is ridiculous.

@L1ttledrummergirl. I do know what you mean. I still keep banging away with the posts though. It's reassuring to see the same old names (all on this thread) posting such good sense and sounding so reasonable compared. Occasionally one of the people on this thread hits a nerve and the bullshit posters melt like snow. I take some comfort in that and the polls.

user8800 · 05/06/2024 22:41

The bots are about

I'll be staying off most SM until after the GE

Interesting that only 10% of the populace watched the debate.

Evenstar · 05/06/2024 22:43

@L1ttledrummergirl I am assuming a lot of these posts are paid Tory shills trying to influence people. Like PP I think better to stay here where you “know” people

DuncinToffee · 05/06/2024 22:45

I have some nice graphs bookmarked/saved Smile

It's a bit like twitter where you have scroll past the blue ticks first.

I’m so bored with posting my national debt bar chart - and still four weeks to go.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2024 23:06

Know what you mean @L1ttledrummergirl
And it's going to get so much more frenetic (and frankly weird) in the next 4 weeks. I think it's a case of dipping in and out if you feel like it.

Realistically the majority of sane normal people take minimal interest in politics - and stopped listening to any politician or pundit months ago.

Zonder · 05/06/2024 23:14

Keep up the good work everyone!

prettybird · 05/06/2024 23:15

MN does appear to be somewhat trigger happy. I saw a post which was deleted which had been replying to someone who has been getting very aerated and repeating their arguments loudly. Said reply was not insulting - just a suggestion that they maybe seek to improve their understanding since they ignore the many posts addressing what he or she is frothing about - yet it was deleted within a couple of minutes of being posted. (I'm being deliberately vague).

It's obvious that whoever was moderating made no effort to read the context. Hmm

We need to be aware that some posters will try to divert and antagonise.

tobee · 05/06/2024 23:38

Plenty on here remember the Brexit lead up shenanigans? We've done 2017 and 2019 already. We can power through 💪🏻

Or, alternatively, just go off SM like I largely did through the crazy of Covid

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/06/2024 00:20

Thank you all for the sane responses.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/06/2024 01:06

Remember, you don't have to turn up at every fight you're invited to.

The vast majority of British people want rid of the Tories so you can afford to choose your battles wisely.Brew

Cheguevarahamster · 06/06/2024 04:52

I am avoiding most other threads, it's too depressing.

I don't know if you follow tomorrow'smps on twitter? It's Michael Crick. He's been brilliantly tracking candidate selection for all parties. Here's his latest news.

"🔵 Many Conservatives are complaining that while the party fails to pick women and ethnic minorities for its strongest seats, it has been slotting women and ethnic minority people into hopeless seats in unusual numbers, so as to make the overall statistics look a lot better."

" 🔵 There seems to be a lot of truth in this allegation. If we take the 39 selections I have heard about in hopeless seats in the last four days:
28 are women;
11 are men;
4 of the men are from ethnic minorities;
only 7 of the men are white.
7 of the women are ethnic"

But of course at least the Tories know what a woman is.

Cheguevarahamster · 06/06/2024 05:02

And they are always banging on about how diverse they are.

Just NC and disrupt them?

There are a few loons on here but they need to be challenged.

Esp when they continually bring in the Trans nonsense into every single thread .... i'm looking forward the Tour de france one soon but i suspect someone will jump in with Robert Millar/Pippa York arrrhhhhgg!!!!

Zonder · 06/06/2024 06:46

This is ridiculous. I almost responded to someone yesterday on a thread who said something along the lines of how the election will be fought and won on this single issue. I have one friend who is focused on this. Nobody else even thinks about it. But there's no point replying to say that because we will be told we obviously don't care about women.

I have given up trying to debate on here, there don't appear to be any posters who hold a different view to me who are able to sustain a line of argument.

DeadButDelicious · 06/06/2024 06:56

My constituency still hasn't got a conservative candidate, the incumbent one announced he wouldn't be standing in this area this time (because he knows he'll lose), he's failed to be selected anywhere else so far and rumour has it he may have to stand here by default. Looking forward to that particular climb down if it comes to pass. He was on the select committee that ultimately got rid of Boris Johnson just out of interest.

Esp when they continually bring in the Trans nonsense into every single thread

I think a lot of those posters are going to be very surprised at just how much your average voter simply does not care about this issue. They've holed themselves up in a nice little echo chamber where they all care so deeply they are willing to chop their own legs off over it and they are convinced that everyone else feels the same.
