Here’s Mulan. Just like me. Lurking in the background til I get riled up about education.

Thank you for the new thread - and thank you to all the regular contributors who scour the media and data to keep us all abreast of news.

Sorry - meant to say thanks Duncin Brew

Good evening. Thanks for the new thread. Cat tax attached.

I would recommend the interview with Sir Michael Marmot on Andrew Marr tonight about the drop in living standards. (18.17). Sir Michael Marmot is a public health expert, specialising in health inequalities. His work over decades has been amazing. Here in a short clip he outlines the facts around reductions in LA funding. It's devastating. https://x.com/LBC/status/1796242091837686250?t=ZicymBqh7-VvJ1QWNilFMg&s=19

Lead tightening - or as we know it, no change...

🚨 NEW POLL 🚨

@BMGResearch for @theipaper

Labour 43%
Tories 27%
Reform 11%
Lib Dems 9%
Greens 6%

16pt lead is unchanged from last BMG poll in April. But 3pt fall in Reform's standing suggests the squeeze might be on...

It's shocking but not surprising when it's laid out like that.

And the Conservatives want to slash a further 13% from those budgets.

Polling is fascinating - how many people do you need to interview to get a reasonable margin of error?

How do you handle the don't knows?

I was just reading a BBC news article on polling. I think that it said Don’t Knows and Won’t Votes were excluded from the results. I guess that means that if there are a lot of floating voters then polls could change as the election gets closer and they make up their minds. I’d be interested to see what the numbers are for both of those though. Turn out at general elections is generally in the 60s percentage wise isn’t it? I wonder how many people actually say that they aren’t going to vote?

SerendipityJane · 30/05/2024 20:50

PMK

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2024 20:53

I am foolishly watching QT. Am so fed up of hearing that only private school parents are aspirational.

Fuck off with that.

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2024 20:54

DH works in a private school. His head is literally walking around telling staff to vote Tory.

Also fuck off with that.

Saucery · 30/05/2024 20:55

Ahhh, the explanation for the massive chip on Piers Morgan’s shoulder. Prep school then a comprehensive. That obviously still stings a bit for him.

If you sift through the majorities, it's an amazingly small number of people that actually decide the outcome. A few tens of thousands as I recall.
