I have a 45 minute lunch break and am 38 mins into a call with hmrc I have yet to speak to a human, but apparently my call is really important to them.

Yesterday after work it kept cutting me off, so this is marginally better! Definitely showing me what the government think of us normal folks- they can't even be bothered to staff the helplines properly, showing their contempt right there.

I don't think it's a constitutional requirement. But imagine being the last to know ....

Would make sense if the gov has clocked they may have to raise taxes in an autumn statement.

Higher borrowing costs and a productivity growth downgrade would wreck the headroom vs fiscal rules. If so, waiting longer would derail the pre-election narrative
