I enjoy an Ed Conway chart.

"Absolutely fantastic explainer from @EdConwaySky showing just what that 2.3% inflation figure really means for your pocket.

Inflation might be heading back towards "normal" levels - but prices have risen 20% since 2021.

And that's why people are feeling poorer."

This gave me a giggle, I bet Tory Laura doesn’t like it 🤣

It’s going to be bonkers. And it’s going to get very nasty.

Yep. Very nasty.

Someone started a thread about the DWP reporting that the PIP fraud rate is essentially 0%. Yet still the shills have to come on to the thread to bash PIP claimants.

Thank you for the new thread @DuncinToffee

Mon July 4th.

Pleeease.

I cannot pay my cat tax. Hangs head in shame while plodding to the workhouse.

July 4th is a Thursday - elections are always Thursdays. You made me check though.

IClaudine · 22/05/2024 15:21

Latest tweet from the Tories:

Things have turned a corner this year.

Inflation is now 2.3%.
Wages have risen for ten consecutive months.
The economy had the joint fastest growth in the G7.

Our plan is working. That’s why we must stick with it to deliver a brighter future for everyone

Opening gambit for GE campaign?

Notonthestairs · 22/05/2024 15:23

Can't see any problems here...

news.sky.com/story/health-and-care-worker-visa-applications-down-76-this-year-13141145

Only 152,000 existing vacancies and no money in local government to pay higher rates. Looks like councils will need to raise rates higher to cover the shortfall from central funding - or leave vulnerable people without care.

MrsMurphyIWish · 22/05/2024 15:23

Would love July 4th. DD becomes a teenager on the 5th. She’s had her whole childhood under Tory austerity - would love her teenage years to be better!

Notonthestairs · 22/05/2024 15:24

Is this on the Shit List?

In the NHS, 2024/25 financial plans are highly likely to fall apart - revealing huge deficits, cuts to be made, bailouts needed - about Aug/Sept/Oct this year

If it's a July election then that 'in year' problem will instead be an early one for a new government

Early elex would, though, give the new govt more time to think about this winter, and more time for sorting out spending plans and ambitions for 25/26

4 July, Scottish school holidays, football Euros and Glastonbury, can see why it would appeal to the Tories

Edit, Glastonbury is finished by then, should have checked before repeating

Another Tory source: panic in the tea room. Nobody was expecting this. “Everyone mortified,” the source told me

Am I right it’s a simple majority needed in the commons to actually trigger the election should Sunak call for it?

Indeed.

And we know there are probably at least 30 malcontents ... remember the government managed to lost a vote last week,

The lies they tell is quite breathtaking & so bloody brazen they are beyond belief.
yy threads will be even nastier, I briefly looked at the PIP fraud rate one have hidden it I find I dwell on the nasty unfeeling posts.

Am sure they'll have a flight by then - albeit paid to go which wasnt how the scheme was designed but desperate times etc.
Amazed he was so willing to lie to Loose Women! Hope they haven't booked their holidays.

Alexandra2001 · 22/05/2024 16:02

Politics UK says Sunak will tell Cabinet he is going for the 4th of July, expect fireworks.
