That was LAST week. You can't expect it to be true THIS week.

Listening to radio 4 this afternoon it sounds like Penny Mordaunt is revving up to take over. She seems to be the voice of the Tories today.

She'll fight you know.
Fight, fight, fight.

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2024 14:01

Rishi Sunak's flagship anti-smoking legislation will be lost as a result of the snap election. Govt sources confirming there is no mechanism for pushing through a free vote bill in the pre-election wash-up

Oh

Stand up and fight Penny. You know you want to.
I kind of want her to as well. She doesn't know what a woman is.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/05/2024 14:09

I am so excited.Grin I just have to pace myself and remember the what my mum told me: "You don't have to go to every fight you're invited to our Boots. Chose your battles wisely."

Oh

The plan is working.

Fight, fight, fight.

The entire progress of humanity depends on it, if I remember rightly.

Simon Case has just been telling the Inquiry that he wasnt aware of Eat Out to Help Out until it was announced. It hadn't come through the Covid Taskforce.

Oh

That was actually the only good thing I think he has come up with.

What was the point in him after all? Still, gives Labour something to do upon entry!

Doubtful. The Tories got 76% of the vote there in 2019, he’ll just reduce the majority. It’s odd that he’s chosen such a safe Tory seat, it’s almost as if he doesn’t want to be elected.

Ha!
Imagine that

Those are wise words @TooBigForMyBoots I am going to try to remember them too, otherwise I will be spending even more time on MN in the run up to the GE!

I read an article in The Times earlier claiming Sunsk had decided to go for July 4th a month ago, before the local elections, and Houchen being re elected Mayor sealed it.

None of it rang true. Would imagine Sunak would have had a spreadsheet for all eventualities, and it's just being pushed as the plan he had all along.

That would suggest Sunak actually gave a shit.

I(t's clear he didn't.

In fact the funniest thing about all this is that Sunak has treated the Tory party with the contempt they have treated us.

As an aside, I've already taken a picture of my elite cats in preparation for the Cat Tax of next thread, as I suspect that this one will fill up quickly Wink

HannibalHeyes · 23/05/2024 16:13

Oh dear. I've been trying to come up with a list of MPs I'll particularly enjoy watching lose their seats, and it's already up to 32 (or 36 if you include Grant Shapps)...

I think I may have to move on to my hanging baskets. 😂

He got 63% of the vote last time - they really are frit, aren’t they?

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2024 16:18

On form. Michael Gove, the emotional support turbot 😂

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2024 16:39

Hadn't expected Merriman to go although I suppose he is at an age where he can develop a third act for his career. Maybe he didn't want to be left with the nutters as per The Times article from last year.

On GE night there's always a surprise person who keeps their seat. And a shock person who loses theirs.

I hope the shock loss is Braverman 🤞
