Blimey what an awful night! Soooo hot and I could not drink enough water. Bearing in mind still water makes me gag if I have too much of it. Of course i was then in the loo God knows how many times!

Today I got on the bus, the driver let the bus step down for me. Now this is almost unheard of in London. You can struggle with shopping trollies, prams, little kids etc and they won't lower the step. However she did and also when I got off she banged on her glass and pointed to the front of the bus to get off there and lowered the step again. The other door was working but she obviously thought I was OLD.

Waaaaaaaah! I am old!

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Let us know what Greek day was like! Hope there were lots of yummy food!

Penguinsa · 24/06/2024 09:43

Thanks everyone. DD and I are currently in Borneo and have limiredWiFi at the moment. It's been a lovely break and seen orangutans and sunbears in Sepilok today, staying at Sepilok Nature Resort. Just back from Kinabantagan river where we had several boat trips and saw orangutans, pygmy elephants, crocodile, probiscus monkeys, other monkeys and birds in the wild. Hotel there had 600 wooden steps but amazing. Also went to Agnes Newton Keith's house. Few pics from Sepilok and ANK house. Hope everyone is fine, will catch up on return.

@Penguinsa

Aaw looks lovely. Hope you waved to the Orangs for me. I was re-watching Jungle school (where they train little Orangs and get them ready for forest living). Was loving seeing Benny again who always disappears from the carers and other little orangs. This time he found the big banana supply! He got found too soon for his liking though!

Penguinsa · 24/06/2024 11:18

Thanks Death. Will wave at them from you, have been told not to keep my shoes outside here at hotel as orangutans may steal them. The hotel is next to the orangutan sanctuary were some are free range and visit hotel.

Deathraystare · 24/06/2024 11:24

@@Penguinsa

How wonderful that the hotel is next to the sanctuary! Not so wonderful that they nick shoes!

Very impressed with the sanctuary (from my armchair watching it on tv!). They take them out in boats to find suitable places for them (where there ae no aggressive males and no logging going on). It takes hours to get there and sometimes the vet stays there to check the new arrivals.

Penguinsa · 24/06/2024 12:07

Yes it's great work Death. Elephants we saw.

culturevulture1984 · 24/06/2024 15:42

How exciting! Wonderful to see pics of Borneo.

I am on a gentle day out with my Mum today visiting a walled garden. We are having a lovely time.

MissConductUS · 24/06/2024 15:49

Fabulous pictures from Borneo, @Penguinsa! Was this a last minute trip or something long planned?

The heat wave here has broken, but it's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on. DD is due back from Japan next Sunday. DS has a job interview a week from today in a town about an hour and a half north of us a week from today (next Monday) so he's driving up there next Sunday. He's pretty keen for the job, and the town it's in is lovely. It would be nice having him close enough to come home on weekends if he wants to, or we could pop up there and stay over on Saturday night.

I'm fascinated, @Penguinsa ! Looks like an amazing trip. 😃
Death, Greek Day was good. Lots of food options and because we went fairly early the crowd wasn't too bad and it's wasn't too difficult to find a parking spot a few blocks away.

Penguinsa · 24/06/2024 16:31

Thanks Havoc. Greek day sounds good.

Thanks CultureVulture.

Thanks MissC Hope your DD has had an amazing time in Japan. Borneo was both long planned and last minute. In 2019 I booked a trip to Borneo, the Perhetians and Thailand for summer 2020 booking with places directly after lots of research. Then of course covid hit and insurance refused to pay out but I got all the money back after about a year apart from some air asia flight credits. Summer 2021 borders also closed. Summer 2022 my chemo. Summer 2023 DS needed us at home and went to Mauritius with DD, an AI type holiday, very easy and DH stayed home. This year I had held rooms in all the places and booked for me but DS is still not up to going and so DH stayed home but DD decided on day I flew out she would like to join me. So was a scramble to get flights for her and get accommodation switched to twin beds, she also had her last maths A level that afternoon then picked her up and rushed to Heathrow. Made it for 9.35pm flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Just had dinner with DD whose ability to eat but stay thin led to the waiter to ask her name.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/06/2024 21:21

That's so amazing Penguinsa! And you live life on the edge and last minute!
Havoc Greek day sounds amazing! I envy you your interesting life....
Miss glad the newly weds are having a great time.
Death sounds like a considerate bus driver!
It's warm here but only low 20s. I'm afraid we have splashed out on an ac unit for DS2's room as it is in the loft conversion and absolutely roasting whenever there is the slightest bit of warmth.
DS1 and I went to Birmingham University open day last weekend. First time as a parent - it was quite helpful to DS to try and focus his plans as he is a bit too laid back for my liking.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/06/2024 01:24

Thanks, Sprouts. I'm sure it's no more/less than anyone else's, just different. Anytime I see posts here of castles, historic sites and gardens I feel the same. Old world is so amazing! 😃

mathanxiety · 25/06/2024 03:21

Lovely photos from Borneo, penguins.

We are having another round of storms tonight. I am sitting with the cat I sometimes look.after, watching the Stanley Cup final, Edmonton Oilers v Florida Panthers. The cat wants the cat team to win, obv, but I'd like to see the Oilers win. They have fought back from 3-0 down to make this a seven game final series. However, they are down 2-1 in the third period right now.

Deathraystare · 25/06/2024 07:48

@Penguinsa
Lovely pic of elephants. They are fabulous creatures.

@Mumtobabyhavoc
Glad you enjoyed Greek day. I love Greek food!

@sproutsandparsnips

Considerate bus drivers in London are few and far between!!!

@culturevulture1984
Glad you and your mum had a good time. I love walled gardens!

@MissConductUS
Sounds all good on the DS and DD front. Would be nice if you could see him regularly maybe Friday night/Saturday night dinner. This was how I reckoned my life would be when I moved out of my parents place, going round for a weekend meal. Nope!

HildaTablet · 25/06/2024 15:24

Amazing pics Penguinsa, and your DD’s last-minute decision to go with you made me laugh.

Another photo-dump from me, sorry 😂 Yesterday a friend and I went to Tate Britain to see the ‘Sargent in Fashion’ exhibition, which was stuffed with wonderful paintings of beautifully-dressed high-society ladies. Then I got a bus back to my station, which takes the tourist route right past the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Nelson’s Column. Good fun to be a visitor in a city I know so well (though it was hot, hot, hot - and even hotter today 🥵)

Hilda, sounds like such a nice day! I love your pics 😍
It's so fun to play tourist at home. It really lets you take things in from a different perspective. I've done the hop on hop off tourist bus here for fun before. You've reminded me that I'm over-due to take in an exhibit ...🤔

bizzey · 25/06/2024 19:45

Hello everyone 🤗.
Havoc..thank you for asking after me 🤗🤗😍..that was very sweet and thoughtful of you x

I am ok.
Had a couple of weeks from hell and didn't want to derail this lovely thread with all my problems !

All very stressful and anxiety inducing ...not to mention frustration!

Settling down now ... hopefully... well....till the next time ! 😂😂.

No fun news from me at the moment.

But I have loved catching up on this thread x

MissConductUS · 25/06/2024 21:23

Math, our cats watched the hockey game too. They play floor hockey with their toys.

Lovely pictures, Hilda. I'd love to get to London someday. I'll have to remind DH that he's promised to take me there when we retire. He loved his time in the big smoke.

Penginsa, I hope you're having a fabulous time in Borneo.

Deathray, if DS does move out for this job, I'm not sure he'd spend 90 minutes in the car each way to come down to have dinner with us, but hopefully he'd come down Friday night and go back on Sunday. He'll have his room here, unless the cats claim it. They did that when to DD's room when she moved out.

The men in high-viz jackets have lowered the water level in the reservoir, which has something to do with the construction going on nearby. The crane has found a new perch on one of the rocks newly exposed. And I caught a picture of the cat in his cabinet office. He watches TV from there.

Bizzey, sorry to hear that things have been less than ideal recently. I hope life will be on track again for you soon. Remember, you're not meant to post anything exciting here. 😂😂😂
Miss, love seeing the pics you post from your corner of the world. 😍

Planning a little 6-month celebration for baby on Friday. Bought a body suit that says "Half" 😊 , a banner that says, "Halfway around the sun," a bunch of balloons and a cute stuffed toy. Was going to order a cake, but I want a tall layer cake and my go-to cake shop doesn't have tall cakes unless it's the large size or the pricey 'special' design cakes. Spent the morning checking other shops and I'm just too on the fence without having tried them before. So, ughhhh.... looks like I will make one. Wish me luck. 😬
And I'll do some cake reconnaissance in prep for 1st birthday in December. 😋😋😋

bizzey · 25/06/2024 23:29

Havoc ... OMG 🤗....I love the phrase ..1/2 way round the sun !
So cute 🥰.

I am wearing a silk bonnet in bed ...and earlier when I was watching TV ...to stop the heat and sweat from frizzing and knotting my hair !

So far it seems to be helping!

I have longish , thick curly hair so this heat and humidity we are having at the moment is not very nice to my hair !

Penguinsa · 25/06/2024 23:32

Thanks Sprouts Hope open day visit went well.

Thanks Math, Death and Hilda. Lovely pics Hilda.

Thanks MissC Hope you come to the UK one day. Lovely time in Borneo.

Enjoy cake Havoc.

Sorry things are difficult Bizzey and hope they get better. Please don't feel you have to post positive things only, we all like to help if we can.

Off to breakfast here soon and then likely to the Rainforest Discovery centre in Sepilok. We fly back to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning. Had a lovely dinner here with DD yesterday, the waiter asked her if we were siblings. 😂 And was then blushing and mortified when I explained I was her Mum and DD was not impressed. He drew a picture of DD and gave it to her and she loved that and said noone has ever done that for her and she will tell her boyfriend and he needs to up his game!

Penguinsa · 25/06/2024 23:38

Yes DD was amusing Hilda, decided same day wanted to come to Borneo so I was frantically booking things and she just kept on saying make sure you get me a vegetarian meal on the plane and have everything sorted by 11am when I leave for my maths A level exam. Managed it but had to give her my veggie plane meal. Her boyfriend was initially unimpressed with the last minute impulsiveness but all his friends were impressed and as soon as she showed him wildlife photos he completely changed and said his family were boring and he wanted to go on a wildlife holiday with DD. DD says she's coming back in 5 years. Her boyfriends family are lovely but very sensible compared to ours. DH and I were just like that, he complained of my impulsiveness re holidays but then married me.

Penguinsa · 26/06/2024 01:17

Breakfast with DD. French toast for me. The chalet is our room.

Bizzey, when humid here I French braid my hair. It has to be after washing and using a smoothing/styling cream. After braiding I spray with extra hold hair spray. I sleep on satin pillow cases, so that helps, too. (From one curly-haired girl to another) 😉
Penguinsa, I like your phrasing: "sensible" 😉
I think I'm a bit like you, btw. 🙌

DandyDandylion · 26/06/2024 11:57

Wow so many pictures from such far flung places, how lovely. Here in the uk I am hiding inside as the sun is out there trying to kill us brits who are not used to it.
DandyCat has had his two week post op check and all is going well. He will swap his metacam for four weeks of steroids and then be seen again. I have to say he is coping remarkably well considering all the stitches he has in there, he’s even gained a small amount of weight.
Havoc, you have reminded me that as my dc are winter born we always had a summer half birthday celebration, with the paddling pool and bbq. As not their actual birthday we would plan it last minute when the weather was nice. This went on until my youngest went to school and was a lovely family tradition.
