Went to see a medium

I went to see a medium yesterday for the first time. It was pure indulgence to see if there was anything in it. The medium did not hit on anything that resonated with me and I felt it was pure speculation. I'm curious now though... Has anyone here had a really accurate psychic or medium reading that simply couldn't have been made up? My friend swears that she has had genuine readings and regularly visits to stay in contact with her mother's spirit.

@SomersetTart and @Twotwinpeaks
Do you still have the names/contacts of the psychics you saw?

These threads are fascinating, if it weren't for the heavy handed "con artist" and "science" brigades which are just so one dimensional and boring to read.

Haha one dimensional because they are the truth, what else is there to say.

For you, nothing. And you are free to scroll past the very clearly labelled thread.

For some, curiosity. Wonder.

These threads are fascinating, if it weren't for the heavy handed "con artist" and "science" brigades which are just so one dimensional and boring to read.

They’re ‘fascinating’ to me because of the way the conned, deluded, grieving and/or vulnerable keep saying ‘She told me things she couldn’t have known!’ in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

This current thread by a vulnerable poster who had recently miscarried in traumatic circumstances and went to a ‘fertility psychic’ to be told her womb lining was wrong and she wouldn’t have a baby for years, only she’s now newly pregnant and haunted by worries she will lose this baby too because of the ‘psychic’s predictions, is a perfect example of how these disgusting frauds prey on the vulnerable.

Lots of stories (and many examples in my own experience) cannot be explained as a con.

No ‘psychic’ ‘insight’ ever cannot be explained as cold reading, inadvertent disclosure by the subject or just chance. Whether they’re cons or not depends on the state of mind of the ‘psychic’.

But it’s all bollocks either way.

I can't explain how David Blaine/Dynamo/David Copperfield/Paul Daniels do or did their tricks, but I know they're absolutely explainable.
I don't put it down to "magic"

Psychics, mediums and clairvoyants absolutely are similarly tricksters, but of a far more sinister kind.

Darker · 26/03/2024 10:59

I agree that those people have mastered certain tricks… and it’s great entertainment if you like that sort of thing.

I cannot explain the ‘trickery’ of some of the detail offered during telephone consultations where no details had been provided in advance other than a phone number.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 26/03/2024 11:03

Yet trickery it is, @Darker , whether you and I can explain it or not.

That said, plenty have explained how it's done.

How can you explain what I’ve just described?

I don’t know what it is but I am not convinced it is a trick.

Suchagroovyguy · 26/03/2024 11:37

Those who believe in these sorts of things are intensely vulnerable in my eyes. It’s rather sad.

But you didn’t describe anything. You made a non-specific reference to ‘details’ provided during phone calls with ‘psychics’.

Darker · 26/03/2024 11:55

There are lots of examples here of very specific information given. Some could be a wild guess, for sure.

I’ve had a few readings over the years and the content has been variable but in most cases very specific/relevant to what has been going on that goes beyond coincidence or good guesses. These are telephone readings so they don’t know my name or age or where I’m from.

I went to see one as a bit of light relief. She said that change was coming. Big change.

I went to my daughter’s flat and while I was waiting for her to come home her boyfriend said that he’d been offered a job overseas (which he subsequently took and is now abroad). And then I checked my emails to find one from my DF which was sent at exactly the same time that the medium was telling me big change was going to happen. My estranged father told me that he was leaving his partner after 20 years and was coming back to his/our home town to live out his last days in the bosom of his family.

So Big Change was happening, but to other people, who were fairly distantly connected to you (your daughter’s boyfriend and your estranged father), and not to you at all?

(Incidentally, had your daughter been unaware her boyfriend was planning to emigrate? I can’t decide from your post whether she knew and approved and went too, or whether you knew before she did…?)

tillyandmilly · 21/06/2024 21:53

I went along for a private reading - it was a gift - I didn’t want to go but thought what’s the harm - the spiritualist saw a crowd of people and one lady stepped forward with a pillow in her arms - I said nothing but came away gobsmacked as i knew this was my Nan

I was allergic to feathers and every time I went to stay with her she would fret if the pillows were okay and I was not allergic to them!

Ozgirl75 · 21/06/2024 23:14

I am not psychic at all but I set myself up at a school fair once when I was 16 as a “palm reader”. Obviously silly with a floaty head scarf and jangly bracelets.
Even just making stuff up I managed to get some successful random very specific hits and I was the accidental talk of the school for weeks about my “ability”.
