Went to see a medium

I went to see a medium yesterday for the first time. It was pure indulgence to see if there was anything in it. The medium did not hit on anything that resonated with me and I felt it was pure speculation. I'm curious now though... Has anyone here had a really accurate psychic or medium reading that simply couldn't have been made up? My friend swears that she has had genuine readings and regularly visits to stay in contact with her mother's spirit.

Not really my thing but have been twice to keeps friends company, both times have been unbelievably accurate. I had forgotten about what one had said and friend had taken notes and given them to me, I remember at the time reading it back and thinking well that's not going to happen... It did!

I cannot remember that much about the Derek Acorah expereince (as nothing was directed at me ) but he did say something like "Your loved ones will always send you a message , Nothing horrible - not like Most Haunted , more a scent or something that is out of place . An animal . Something you don't expect "

My Dad ( life long baptist church/Salvation Army church goer ) read my copy of his autobiography at my house and though he didn't know Derek Acorah from TV, he said it was "interesting" not "Well that's three hours of my life I won't get back from this crock of shit"

On the night before his cremation, our sensor camera at our house was set off . not by DD or DS or cats , but an orb (light phenonenum)

I am 100% convinced that was my Dad coming to say Goodbye on the last night his body was at rest on Earth.
Though this was in my house hundreds of miles away , we were in his house but no cameras there . He might've done the rounds Wink

Call it baloney .
Ridicule .
But to me it gave a tiny glow of comfort .

That is the weirdest thing - the night my mum died (we were still sitting by her bedside in the hospital) my external cameras were triggered. I glanced at my phone but didn't see anything but when I looked properly the next day, there was an orb. It moved along the fence, around the drive past my car, it was there for about 30 minutes. Very odd.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed ( if I remember my Physics from the 1980s Grin ) so the energy from a person has to go somewhere .

I looked up the Clinton Baptiste tour ( RollerCoaster)
He's a busy lad !

Told DH and we've booked to see him when he's in our neck of the woods .

Grin

RollerGhoster tour Blush

I am such a savage , I missed off the funny title (that they probably spent all of four minutes days thinking up

But why would whoever the medium was supposed to be channelling mention something so inconsequential? If I was dead with psychic access to my loved ones' secrets or the future, I'd tell them something that would actually be useful.

Right?! "Hey, your dead brother says you bought a harmonica!"

I'd be like, I know I did, why the fuck is he communicating from beyond the grave to tell me that?!

Amugwithoutahandle · 24/02/2024 00:10

I always assume it’s a big con because it’s just a guessing game about someone’s name and how they died ie stuff you know already. No one who has died ever passes on anything very original or specific or interesting do they?

I mentioned harmonica upthread...not specific enough?

Because it was a spiritualist church. It was to demonstrate that communication with departed soul can and does happen. It is not fortune telling.

Why would the departed soul rock up from their eternal rest just to tell someone they knew they'd bought a harmonica? 🤨

Seetheattachedfile · 25/02/2024 15:17

To prove the existence of the afterlife. How else did they know about the harmonica?

Yes, you're right, it's the only possible explanation really, isn't it.

Seetheattachedfile · 25/02/2024 15:29

So what is your explanation?

CanIbeRio · 25/02/2024 15:38

Untilitisnt · 24/02/2024 16:44

But you didn't get to ask them any questions did you?
People are told stuff. I would want to be asking my loved one all sorts, not just being told 'they are here and say hello'
Cruel people working on the gullible and vulnerable

That wasn't the sum total of the consultation. She did tell me other stuff including I would split with my bf at the time.....we did within the year! But got back together and he is now my dh!! I can't remember the ins and outs of it all....im sure I asked questions....my point is she got those names bang on which considering she couldn't have researched me prior is very woo...we'll I think so!!

What 'energy from a person'?
It's like saying the energy from a TV goes somewhere else when it is switched off.

There are a million other explanations ranging from "lucky guess" (which BTW is by far the most likely but for some reason people always seem to discount it) to whoever was conducting this apparent seance actually saw this person purchasing the harmonica.

Edited

The electricity from a TV can convert to static energy , other electrical energy to static (like I get a static shock from the escalotors in Debenhams , when it was still around )

With a human you have the energy from the brain synapses ....then you don't . It has to go somewhere as one of the Laws of Physics states (cannot be created or destroyed )

Anyway , I know what I saw , I am not in the least bit interested in trying to convince anyone one way or t'other .

Seetheattachedfile · 25/02/2024 15:52

Yes it could have a a very lucky guess. But that would be very very lucky. But it's funny that people say it's all cold reading and generalised but when given a very specific thing its brushed off as a lucky guess.

It's unlikely the purchased was witnessed..it was purchased in Sweden.

What about the other. 999,998 reasons

Well I didn't witness it to be fair. Did they say "your brother says you bought a harmonica" apropos of nothing at all, or were there prior questions asked?

Notheninkynonk · 25/02/2024 16:03

Look at all the specific details Derren Brown comes out with and he's always been totally open about how he does it.

My point still stands. If I was watching my relative from beyond the grave, the fact they were in a spiritualist church wouldn't change my wish to tell them something useful.

To be fair, if they got rung up by a ‘gifted’ person, looked through the ether and saw a loved one in a spiritualist church they might well take the piss a bit. I suspect I would.

You need a new kettle, and your toilet’s minging, you idle so-and-so” would be a lot more fun than “It’s all a bit grey on this side, like your Lucy’s feature wall”.

RockaLock · 25/02/2024 17:03

Leaving aside the are-they-all-fakes question, I can't work out why people go to a medium.

I mean, I know people go hoping to hear from their dead loved ones etc, but most of the posts above just say that the medium tells you stuff you already know, and that it's considered a "good reading" if they get a reasonable amount right.

I know my mum's name, my grandparents' names etc - why would I want to pay some random person to tell me facts about my life that I already know?

I don't get it Confused

I think you needs to brush up you physics and take a lesson in brain physiology

Sure your psychic help led the police to solve a crime. And obviously the fuzz aren’t ever, ever going to admit that they rely on the local woo-merchant’s ‘feelings’ rather than detective work.

I don't believe in psychics or mediums at all but it is true that the police use them.
A member of my extended family was murdered, and alongside the detectives the police did have a medium. The killer was identified and found through the usual police work but none the less a medium was assigned to the case. This surprised me too

That’s so interesting. I know a local psychic who regularly calls the police. They’re only recorded by the police as ‘B’.

I asked a police friend whether the psychic was anonymised because they were in danger.

But apparently not: it’s a shorthand for ‘Bin’.
