Lovely pictures, @Penguinsa. I love the rabbit statues. It looks like spring has arrived a bit earlier for you than it has here.

The Saint Patrick's Day parade in NYC was on Saturday. DS took the train into the city to meet a few friends from uni who were there on spring break. We dropped off DH's car at the dealership for service yesterday, so he an I commuted together today. It's just in for a routine service and to have the winter tyres taken off and the normal ones put on.

We had a Zoom call with DD and mostly talked about wedding stuff. Her fiancee and his groomsmen finally went shopping for their suits over the weekend. They settled on black, which men's DH will wear charcoal gray. A few more reply cards arrived on Saturday.

Today is the last full day of winter, thank goodness! A few flowers have opened up in one of the flower beds by the reservoir, and I saw Mr and Mrs Duck for the first time in ages. That picture includes a nice view of the mountains on the other side of the Hudson River.

Lovely pics again @MissConductUS!

@Mumtobabyhavoc

I believe I tried all that re the phone. I am going to try again before work tomorrow to find the shop and if not will have to take a taxi on Wednesday. Driving me mad!

However, I have managed to get my hair coloured. I had the colour at home but had yet to do it. I decided to go back to the cheap hairdressers I went to a while back where the Eastern Europeans worked. Well it seems to have changed and is bigger. I saw a notice on the door that colour is from £45 which sounded cheap but was unsure if it was for bring your own or not. Anyway, all I wanted was for my grey to disappear, no haircut. We he did just that and it cost £16! I was blown away!

I have also booked to go to the Chiropodist on Friday as my toes are awful. My small toe next to my right big toe seems to have almost become a circle! I cannot see that well and am worried I will nick the skin and the toenails are hard to cut anyway.

bizzey · 18/03/2024 17:07

Brace yourselves ladies ...brace yourselves 😜. !!

This might be a bit too exciting for the theme of this thread ...but here goes ....(Drum roll 🥁🥁🥁!)

We are having a new bin added to our weekly rubbish collection...

Finally ..

A food compost ..caddy ...thing !! 😁😁

We will get a little bin and some special bags for indoor collection...and a big grown up bin that stays out doors ....to put the bags in from the little indoor bin 😕...

I am pleased as I think it is good..but...I just keep thinking it will be another bin I have to micro -manage till the boys remember...

NOT EVERYTHING GOES IN THAT TINY LITTLE BIN 😭!

I have always felt guilty not been able to reuse my tea bags ..so this will help ease my guilt ...

The amount of tea I drink in a week will be able to fertilize a lot of land. !
🤣!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/03/2024 20:19

Bizzey, we have same for compost. It makes you realize how much food you waste once you start putting it aside. I empty mine roughly every 2nd day.

Deathraystare · 19/03/2024 15:50

@bizzey

Steady on Bizzy you have got us all excited now!

I decided to get a bus to find the Tesco in the Cromwell Road (it does exist apparently, it is on a map). My colleague said her grandson gets the C1 from Shepherds Bush and gets off opposite the Tesco. Ok I thought. But nope, like what happened when I went a few days ago, there wasn't a Tesco to be seen! I reckon the bus goes off and does not do the whole of Cromwell Road.

I will have to come into work to use the phone on Thursday to book a cab. All because my Tesco phone won't let me pay a bill online. Stupid thing.

Still I found a nice cafe in Victoria (yep went the whole of the distance just in case a Tesco was peeping around a corner!). It was called English Rose cafe. Only thing was went I went to pay she asked if I wanted any extras ??? I said no sand then she explained you can pay varying amounts of tips! Hard to get out of that!!!

MissConductUS · 19/03/2024 20:28

Bizzey, we don't have compost recycling yet, but there is talk of it.

I saw a crane this afternoon, but I don't recognize the dark patch at the top of the wing, so this may not be the same crane as previously spotted by the reservoir. I also got a very nice close-up of Mr and Mrs Duck.

A couple of my daughter’s friends brought me some flowers, one brought tulips and the other bright freesia. Love them both (girls and flowers)!
I made a cheese and onion pie for tea tonight and it was delicious. Luckily there is half leftover, so my daughter can have some tomorrow, as she went to a friend’s house today.
@Deathraystare I coloured my hair this morning, using the same make as my usual one, but a slightly different version, as it’s oil based and my hair feels and looks in really good condition.
Just having a chilled evening watching easy programmes on the television. I’ve just watched The Beverly Hillbillies for goodness sake, but I enjoyed it, it’s still funny.
Hope everyone has had a lovely day.

Lovely reservoir photos, MissC.

We have an election here today - presidential primaries and various local offices. The local offices and some local tax referenda are the only dogfights as the presidential primaries have already been settled. Turnout has been low. The polling place is a block away. DD voted - it's still a novelty for her.

She baked cookies last evening, but they turned out quite salty. We're not sure how that happened as she said she added the amount of salt the recipe called for.

We are experiencing some seasonal weather and will be for the foreseeable - brrrrrr. We may have a little snow later in the week. I knew it was too soon to retire my winter coat.

Deathraystare · 20/03/2024 07:51

@Umanresources
Your post is full of good things!

Dyed hair (which one was it?) I used the one advertised on tv - the brand with the pink, blue, tangerine etc but mine was Urban Brown. A lovely warm brown. Very pleased with it. Last time I did it myself but I am a klutz, plus for all I know the back could still have been grey!

Oh and Cheese and onion pie! Yummy! and the Beverly Hillbillies. I loved them!

Those girls sound lovely too!

Umanresources · 20/03/2024 12:28

@Deathraystare Mine is the Easy one to use 😄and I am now Light Golden Blonde. My daughters friends are really lovely. I actually taught some of them when they were in primary school, along with my daughter. My son used to tell us everything that he had done at school, but she used to say, 'nothing' when asked what she had done. Even when I had taught her! Her best friend she met in reception class and they spent so much time together, either at home or at her house, it was like having extra children as her younger sister used to tag along. They used to dress up and subject me to plays they had made up. For some reason they used pillowcases an awful lot! I loved it but I'm so thankful they are still friends. I'm friends with their parents too and they used to include my daughter on holidays and day trips with them.
On another positive note, the potholes have just been filled in. Well done my council.

bizzey · 20/03/2024 12:38

I am getting ready to take mam out with her new walker ...on the bus for the first time !

She hasn't used it yet locally as she is still a bit self conscious about needing it .

We are just getting the bus to the shops.

I said I would stand back and let her work out how to manage it ...but I would be there if she needed me ...

I know what is going to happen ...
Loads of people will help her on and off ...and be thinking...what a horrible daughter, for not helping 🤣🤣🤣.

But she needs to know that she can do it herself.

She wants some shopping...so I said we would put in her little bag bit at the front what she can manage .

I will carry the rest.

And I am sure lunch will be included !

It's an absolutely glorious day here.

Lunch will be by the river ...so I will add some photos later !

MissConductUS · 20/03/2024 18:43

We seem to be back to winter here despite it being the first full day of spring. I still managed a walk around the reservoir and got a nice closeup of our new crane. He (or she) seems less skittish than the one who was in the area last fall. The water was like glass today, making spotting fish near the surface easier.

Not much wedding news. The reply cards are coming in at a rate of three to five a day, and I'm updating the google sheet for the guest list. We're all looking forward to the tasting on Sunday, and DH and DS are pleased that they won't have to make dinner that night.

I have a consultation with the neurosurgeon who is going to assist with my herniated disc replacement on Monday. He has the CD-ROM with my MRI exam images, so we'll likely look at them together. They're very clear about the problem. I'm hoping that the surgery can be scheduled after this appointment, as I really want to get it done in April or early May.

Ohh boy ...what a day !!

10 mins before I was leaving to meet mam...she phoned me in a panic to say ...she couldn't find her purse !

Went to bank ... cancelled card.
Not the bank who contacted me on Thursday.
She has another bank account that is not linked to ...well anything!

Same transaction was taken from that account as well..

Sorted now ..

Card cancelled ..
And on line banking getting set up with my details /mobile number .

Poor love ...
It is all too much for her .

I did get some of her shopping (non perishable?😉😜) as we did still go for some food to eat as well !!

And as always .. we had a laugh !!

She still does not know what happened to her purse .

She is very upset about losing her Boots , Superdrug and Nectar cards though 😕😅😉!

I will sort that out for her tomorrow.

That was a very garbled post !

😅😅..

Nice pictures and history to follow....once I have put the kettle on 😉

sproutsandparsnips · 20/03/2024 23:15

Miss hope the consultation goes well. Love the photos!
Bizzey oh dear that's upsetting for mam! Any idea where she might have lost it?
Just trying to organise a 50th birthday trip away but can't seem to make a decision!
Came home from work tonight to find DS had come home from rugby training and just removed all his extremely muddy kit and left it in front of the washing machine. Togs just abandoned in our boot pile but damp so will smell. To top it off DS1 had already left damp togs in his bag in the hall. I have read the riot act but they are 🙄🙄

Umanresources · 20/03/2024 23:27

@mathanxiety your voting system seems quite complicated. I’m used to walking into our church hall, being handed a voting slip with a few names on, putting a cross on it, folding it up and posting it in a box.
I forgot it was my OH’s birthday today. His presents had been wrapped up for ages and he had quite a few cards and presents here. One of the presents I got him was a couple of polygon spoons. He loves gadgets and unusual things, so these spoons just fit the bill and he spent ages folding and unfolding them. 😂

Uman, our voting is the same as yours. Very simple.
Bizzey, sorry your mum had a stressful day.
Miss, hope no more invite drama. Nice bird pics. Hope the surgery happens soon.

I had a dental appt today for a check-up and cleaning. Took the train part-way. Saw cherry blossoms at the station downtown. Apparently a recent survey shows 45% of Canadians want an elected head of state as opposed to a constitutional monarchy. I wasn't asked.

The 2nd bridge across the Thames from 1729.

Rebuilt 1839 (?)

It use to have just a ferry crossing going to one to the other

Sir Richard Walpole ( very important man in British History!)
Was not happy , that the Derry master was having a pint of beer ( bitter in those days!) and would not bring the ferry back over to him

He had to get to Westminster parliament for a meeting.
So decided...a bridge was needed instead

King George 1'st agreed has he could not get back to his official duties quick enough after he had been shooting for deers in Richmond Park ... due to the silly ferry crossing.

So there we have it !!

A little bit of local history for you all
😁😁😁

No ducks though !

bizzey · 21/03/2024 00:15

Ohh wow !
We all posted at the same time 😅

Lost of crossed post 's and things !

Thanks for the massages.

She has not got a clue what happen to her purse .

I have calmed her down and said what is done is done ...and solutions have been sorted..everything is fixed ...and no need to dwell on it any more.

Though to be fair...you still get a sick feeling in your stomach about these things .

Penguinsa · 21/03/2024 10:00

Lovely cherry blossom Havoc

That's a great deal for a haircut/colour Death I'm impressed. I used to get a haircut that sort of price for years then it went up massively after lockdown.

We went swimming on Tuesday, did 105 lengths hopefully again tonight. DD is in her final term at school and there at the moment. Cleared some overgrown rose from the garden and made a bit more of the IKEA cabinet. Still not heard from hospital re MRI letter so will need to chase that again soon.

Had mussels in white wine with baguette and butter and spinach last night as my scales keep saying more protein needed. Was nice anyway. Quite spring like here with birds singing and sunny and mild. Been so rainy so far nice to see the sun. Floof knocked over the bedside table and this morning I had my legs on top of the bed and he came up to me and based his big soft paw against my toes. He keeps rolling on his back with his paws curled up. Still as happy as ever.

A 50th should be exciting to plan for Sprouts

Umanresources · 21/03/2024 21:40

Havoc I lived for a year in Toronto, it was one of the best years of my life. I still have 3 friends over there. We have all gone through marriage, children and now grandchildren together. I was the only one who came back to the UK.
Penguinsa I am very impressed with your swimming! I’m not a very good swimmer.
Today was spent watching a couple of films while I did an online grocery shop. Rather a nothing day today.

Penguinsa · 21/03/2024 22:15

That must have been fun living in Toronto for a year Uman

Went swimming again and did 110 lengths, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Always been a swimmer, was thrown in a pool at birth 😂but it is also supposed to halve the chance of cancer coming back at stage 4 if you exercise 3 to 5 hours a week so that motivates me as well. And I feel so much better physically and mentally with the swimming. DH is having to sit out again as he got the deafness back despite the ear plugs.

They were discussing pensions in the jacuzzi today and one man was giving lots of advice to everyone (some of it rather dubious) and someone asked him if he was a pensions adviser and he said no he knew only a tiny bit about it.

Penguinsa · 21/03/2024 22:17

DS took a bath whilst we were away and must have brushed his hair as there was lots of his now long hair in the hairbrush and masses of conditioner gone. DD still has the hoover.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2024 00:48

Penguinsa, I'm always impressed with your swimming. 🏆
I enjoy it, too, even though I haven't been in years. I'm stymied, as I'm sure you and DH are, about the constant ear issues he has from the pool. How frustrating!
Uman, how long ago did you live in T.O.? Have you been to visit since? I'm sure it has changed a lot! I haven't been there for many years now. Was there once for a holiday and once for work. It's actually the farthest east I've been. It's about a 5 hour flight from here.

Tillly, you're on my mind. I hope the medication is helping you be as comfortable as possible. Sending you some west coast sunshine. ☀️

Spent the afternoon with Havoc sledding on one of the local mountains. It was supposed to rain late afternoon, but didn't. Baby is 12 weeks old today! These past few months have flown by. Might use this milestone as an excuse to go for cake with Havoc and car ride for baby.

Tilllly · 22/03/2024 01:43

@bizzey

Did boots etc restore her points?
