Who is your favourite Gladiator?

We've been watching this every week with the kids and have been pleasantly surprised that it's something that we're all really enjoying, even our hard to drag away from his computer teen boy sits down willingly.

Our family favourite is definitely Legend, he's hilarious and we all hope that when he's competing that he'll be interviewed at the end. Loved the bit where he complained about the lights being in his eyes when he failed on the Wall.

From the women it's a toss-up between Sabre and Fury. Oh to have the confidence of Sabre! And Fury is just awesome and so fierce.

@GemmaC50 sorry to spoil the illusion, but from what I can remember, Papa Nitro was just average.

Lol..thanks,,@CatOnTheLap ..,Nitro's enough for me to dream about anyways.. Along with Bionic, Giant and Phantom! lol :)..Wes wasn't too bad either! lol :)

PlipPlopChoo · 31/03/2024 19:46

Why was the women's eliminator final not recalled for the blatant false start? Maybe there is not a plan in place for that happening.

PlipPlopChoo · 31/03/2024 19:48

Another fan of chung here! I hope he gets to have another go

100% this. He needs to be allowed a place in the second series if he wants it.

I didn't actually notice but I read earlier on the Daily Mail Gladiators threads and it was being discussed. I always record the show on my Sky planner and watched this again and yep it was a blatant pre whistle start!! (okay, hands up.. so I can enjoy watching massive hunks in shiny lycra cozzies in my own time! lol)

JanewaysBun · 31/03/2024 20:35

I noticed the start ahead of time and feel it's not the first time it's happened. Needs to be tightened next season

Springtime789 · 31/03/2024 20:41

Giant and legend. Wish they would change the hosts though, can’t get away with Bradley Walsh and his son.

GemmaC50 · 31/03/2024 14:51

Bionic and Giant are massive @noblegiraffe ....The likes of Legend and Viper are far smaller in stature. I'm defo a fan of seeing the big massive hunks even if they don't have the personality and humour as Legend does. Hope they deliver on the idea of Christmas celeb episodes, don't want to wait another year to see those big he men in shiny lycra cozzies again! lol :).

Legend for getting stuck into the role and coming out with some amusing one-liners.

Giant because DD1 is still enjoying pointing out at every opportunity that he's shorter than DH (6 foot 7)

Aww bless her!! Got 3x DD's myself albeit just the one youngster now..Wow 6'07" ..DH should audition to become a gladiator himself! lol :)

Yep, the clear majority are voicing the opinion that they should be replaced for the next series. Surely should be a female presenter too .:)

Maybe so. Brontë got away with continuing to stand stationary on the bridge during collision despite having been warned, and got to keep the points which I thought was unfair.

Fizbosshoes · 01/04/2024 07:41

I'm sure the stop-start technique and timing your runs has been used by others on the bridge before and not incurred a warning.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2024 10:42

I don't understand what they're meant to do instead of stopping, run straight into the Gladiators' legs?

Collision does make me laugh though, so undignified for the gladiators. Because of the camera focus on the contender, all you see is arses and legs flying through the air.

In the olden days I think they lobbed punchbags at them!

Yes, I am pretty sure Chung was commended for his ducking and diving and strategic pausing in an earlier episode.

The Edge would be really different too if they had to keep running.

They only penalise themselves if they stand still since the aim is to score baskets!

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2024 11:04

Yes, they don't get any points for just staying on.

Where there are points for staying on, like Duel, they have to fight back not just hunker down (Betti) or Hang Tough, they have to be in the red zone.

OP posts:
cakeorwine · 01/04/2024 11:08

You should get points depending on how fast you do Gauntlet. So the faster you do it, the more points you get.

But I suppose they don't want too big a lead over an opponent at the end

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2024 11:13

In the final they all got 10 points for Gauntlet and 0 for Duel. Something wrong with the games there!

And no points for the wall

For the wall you get 10 points for getting to the top first (and I think) 5 for getting 2nd if both contenders make it. The same could easily happen for gauntlet if the times were published

Piggywaspushed · 01/04/2024 11:16

Hang Tough has barely been used has it? I am assuming the gladiators themselves perhaps aren't very good at it? It was always Jet and Wolf that did that back in the day. And I think Hunter.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2024 11:24

Nitro giving Wesley a head start on the Wall and still catching him easily just makes that a non-contest. A bit like going up against Giant in Duel. It seems a bit unfair when 10 points are at stake that your opponent might get Viper.

Cobra was the main male I remember for Hang Tough.

The Wall is also much easier for the new series and I’m sure that you lost if you were pushed out of the sides of Gauntlet in the original.

CoffeeWithCheese · 01/04/2024 11:34

If you haven't - have a look at the Cbeebies social media feeds this morning - their April Fool is Viper as a new Cbeebies presenter and it's really funny.

TheSnowyOwl · 01/04/2024 11:36

A big difference in the original and current series is that you used to get the same gladiator to compete against in events like Hang Tough and Dual but it’s always a different one now. It could be because they have more gladiators so want to get the use out of them.

I also thought that in the events like Power Ball the gladiators in the original series guarded a particular basket rather than continually marked a specific player. It seems more unfair to have a professional rugby player marking you throughout than knowing that you both have to get past him/her for a particular basket.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2024 14:04

That CBeebies Viper clip is brilliant!

It did make me think if they're putting him on a CBeebies level that perhaps those of us saying 'he's a crap baddie' are missing the point that he's not for us.

He's for the young kids who don't appreciate that there are five 'i's in individual brilliance.

I think the young kids around here appreciate those five i’s for Legend more!

I have often thought the same thing regarding Duel... Especially the men's duel (my fave event)... I mean one goes up against Viper then the other ends up against Bionic or Giant..! lol.. Hardly seems fair at all! At least just have say Giant and Bionic doing Duel perhaps! :)
