I had no idea he was ill. Condolences to his family.

Very sad. I'm very ill and has hoped my DH would get me a Beegees shout out on love songs.
Just learnt Steve Wright loved them, so you beat me mate. You got too much heaven first. RIP.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 13/02/2024 18:27

That’s so sad. I’ve always listen to him since forever!

Daisyislazy · 13/02/2024 18:29

What was the bit he used to do with the sad stories?

mrswhiplington · 13/02/2024 18:33

Just heard this on the news. So shocked. I was listening to him on Sunday. RIP Steve.

Really? Surely he would have been too ill to carry on working until so recently. My father died of lung cancer and was very ill for the last 3 months.

stomachameleon · 13/02/2024 18:33

Serious jocking.....

PeopleAreWeird · 13/02/2024 18:35

Really?
How do you know that?
That news isnt anywhere

And if he was dying from Lung cancer i doubt very much he would of been working the week before

@Chesterlas

Has that been confirmed? He must have kept it incredibly secret, does that type affect how you look?

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 13/02/2024 18:36

@PeopleAreWeird its all over the news.

I think his families wishes should be respected and speculation isn't needed.
But sharing the stories of how missed he will be is very different and meaningful

Daisyislazy · 13/02/2024 18:29

What was the bit he used to do with the sad stories?

Oh yes I can't remember but the music is now stuck in my head! It will bug me now until I remember.

Daisyislazy · 13/02/2024 18:42

@IwishIcouldfinishabook yes! I can hear the music but I can't remember what it was called

Daisypod · 13/02/2024 18:43

Daisyislazy · 13/02/2024 18:29

What was the bit he used to do with the sad stories?

Wasn't that Simon Bates 'our tune'?

Sourisblanche · 13/02/2024 18:43

Gosh I’m really shocked, I was only listening to his show on Sunday.

Someone requested a song and said his show was their favourite and they’d listened to him for forever. He sounded really touched and I’m so glad someone said such a nice thing on what would be his last show.

Pashazade · 13/02/2024 18:43

I was shocked as I got in the car just after five and shed a few tears, but then poor Bobbi trying to do the travel, driving and crying is never a good thing.

PeopleAreWeird · 13/02/2024 18:44

where on the news does it say Lung cancer????? @Thehamsterthatcametotea

Julen7 · 13/02/2024 18:45

I can’t see one bit of news saying it’s lung cancer.

ParanoidGynodroid · 13/02/2024 18:48

Genuinely sad. He was always such good, fun company on the radio.
Like others, I'd been listening to him since the 80s.

RIP Mr Wright, thanks for the laughs and the music .

shoppingshamed · 13/02/2024 18:49

Julen7 · 13/02/2024 18:45

I can’t see one bit of news saying it’s lung cancer.

If you Google it some results come up but the articles don't seem to actually mention cancer, it's strange

It's certainly not all over the news that I can see

FictionalCharacter · 13/02/2024 18:50

I did like his show back in the day and I liked his sense of humour.
There was once a news item about a major fire at a pie factory. They said there was a toxic cloud and people should stay away. After the news Steve said in that innocent voice of his “what have they been putting in those pies?”

Source? Because other reports are saying cardiovascular disease which seems more likely given that he was working only a few days ago.

BarelyLiterate · 13/02/2024 18:02

That’s such sad news. 69 is no age these days.

I used to listen to his R1 show back in the day. It was often hilarious, and I really enjoyed it. My tastes may have moved on, and I can’t say I was a fan of his R2 show, but hearing his voice always reminded me of my youth. I believe he was quite an eccentric chap when not on the radio, and I hope his personal life was happy.

Condolences to his family.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well.

What a shock.
Condolences to his family.
