Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

Yes women don't count. The tidal wave of violence by men against women and children worldwide is down to the toxic attitudes and cultures of male dominance and misogyny propagated by patriarchy. Many nations and cultures particularly in the Middle East regard women as property to be done with as the man and his family wish. It is not racist, phobic or anything else to state this - its sociological fact. Pity the poor women of Afghanistan (where this specimen came from apparently, before living in a migrant hostel in Newcastle after asylum was refused), Iran, Saudi Arabia and many other countries, where women are no more than chattels, treated brutally to keep them in line and obedient to patriarchal norms. Weep for them.

Even in this country, according to the Times today, there are over 700 acid attacks - nearly all by men against women - every year! Yet no one ever officially calls it what it is - a global epidemic of violence by men on women and children. Its so endemic that we don't really see it for what it is.

@LakeTiticaca nobody is defending this man. Some of us would just like to have reliable information from source (i.e.the police, not GB news) that this man was an asylum seeker/foreign/whatever before jumping into the racist swamp that this thread has become.
