Pornhub logo is stuck on my iPad! Help!

Hi all. Putting aside your views on porn, who is good at tech stuff? I decided to see what the fuss was about and googled Pornhub yesterday evening on my iPad. Fairly grim. But now whenever I open up Google, there’s a small pornhub logo on the tab!! I am useless at tech and don’t know how to get rid of this - and I really don’t want my teenage kids to see it. I tried ‘delete history’ on Safari in setting. Can anyone else help me? Feeling horrified with myself. (A, for looking, and b, for being tech crap). Please help, embarrassed middle aged mum here.

Go on YouTube. They have great step by step guides on how to do things. E.g. "how to clear iPad browser cache," etc.

ShadowCipher · 18/11/2023 19:19

Here are the steps to delete cookies in the Safari browser on various devices:

On iPhone or iPad:
Open Settings:

Go to your device's home screen and find the "Settings" app (gear icon).
Scroll Down:

Scroll down and look for "Safari."
Access Safari Settings:

Tap on "Safari" to access its settings.
Clear History and Website Data:
Under the "Privacy & Security" section, tap on "Clear History and Website Data."

Confirm:
A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm. Tap "Clear History and Data" to delete cookies and other browsing data.

On Mac:
Open Safari:

Launch the Safari browser on your Mac.
Access Preferences:

In the top menu, click on "Safari" and select "Preferences."
Navigate to Privacy:

Go to the "Privacy" tab.
Manage Website Data:

Click on "Manage Website Data."
Remove All:

You can either search for specific websites or click "Remove All" to delete all stored cookies.
Confirm:

Confirm the action if prompted.

On macOS Monterey and later:
Open Safari:

Launch Safari on your Mac.
Access Preferences:

Click on "Safari" in the top menu and select "Preferences."
Go to Privacy Tab:

Click on the "Privacy" tab.
Manage Website Data:

Click on "Manage Website Data."
Remove All:

Click "Remove All" to delete all stored cookies.
Confirm:

Confirm the action if prompted.

Please note that these steps may vary slightly depending on the version of Safari you're using, but the general process remains similar. Always ensure you have backed up any important data before clearing browser data.

Right, my head is totally done in and I have been working on this for over three hours and I ought to make myself some dinner and take some breaths.
Thank you so much everyone for your help and effort. 😘
I’ll have to come back to it later on or tomorrow when I’m not in panic mode.
I’m admitting defeat for now.

thinking about it, could it also be a link to recently opened tabs or like a saved tab that needs closing ?

I’m sorry to hear about your husband OP.

Before you do anything else, I just wanted to check if you know what is on the iPad eg any photos, voice notes, anything irreplaceable that you don’t want to lose? If so I’d bear that in mind before fiddling too much.

ghostestwiththemostest · 18/11/2023 19:37

I'm howling with laughter at the 14year old brother and the VHS cassette.

If you should feel lonely again in the future, perhaps try Xhamster instead. I'm sure that you could find someone there to have a little chat with.

JoBrodie · 18/11/2023 19:49

As an interim measure until you work out how to delete the cached favicon you could temporarily hide it by switching the website 'favicons' to OFF. That just stops the picture from appearing, it doesn't delete it though (i.e. if you were to switch 'show favicons ON' again it would reappear).

Instructions for iPads (and iPhones) here https://osxdaily.com/2019/01/28/how-show-website-favicons-safari-ios/

The article is from 2019 so I'm hoping Apple haven't moved too many things around since then, but basically it's -

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the iPhone or iPad and then go to “Safari”
  2. Locate ‘Show Icons in Tabs’ and toggle that switch to the ON position

This next article is from 2022 about iPhones but also references that it seems to be a known problem with iPads too https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73462826/iphone-storing-website-favicon-even-though-its-been-updated-and-cache-history-i

"Interesting, with further research I found out it's a known issue for Safari IOS/IpadOS to cache favicons in a hidden location.

>> Safari has extremely aggressive favicon cache. I've seen it happen multiple times on large production websites that the favicon doesn't update for months.<<"

I am not 100% certain if viewing pages in private / incognito mode would prevent the favicon from being cached. I suspect that's what's meant to happen but I'm not sure it could be relied on!

Best of luck OP!
Jo

How to Show Website Icons (FavIcons) in Safari for iPad & iPhone

Just click the X. It will go away.

Don't click it three times though, that makes it come back ;)

Anonymouslyposting · 18/11/2023 20:02

A bit embarrassing to admit but this happened to me. Went on for ages! But it went away, no idea how it fixed itself. Thankfully not a shared iPad…

CaravaggiosCat · 18/11/2023 20:06

I'd just take it to an Apple shop tommorrow and tell them one of your teenagers left it on there and can they please help remove it.

lilybloom2 · 18/11/2023 20:15

You may have added it to your reading list. Google the YouTube walk through and the video will talk you through how to remove it x

sallysausagebun · 18/11/2023 20:34

Do you often browse porn hub? Reason I ask is that's how it works on my phone, the site I browse most appear. In my case it's Temu though lol I'll see if I can remove it the. Get back to you

IlikePinaColada84 · 18/11/2023 20:57

I am really sorry to hear about your husband op 💐

Go into settings > safari > clear history and website data. If that doesn’t work come back.

TiredandLate · 18/11/2023 21:07

Oh OP <not laughing at all, promise>

Is the Ipad insured? Throw it in a river.

alwaysinmyoodie · 18/11/2023 21:09

You poor thing, just here to see if you manage to get rid of the icon

Bluehasnoclue · 19/11/2023 01:17

No idea if this will work either but recently had to try to clear my cache & cookies etc because a Klarna payment wouldn’t go through repeatedly & that’s what they said was causing it.

Open Safari
At the bottom of safari click the little book icon to take you to ‘history’
If it’s not already selected, select the clock icon to get to history
At the bottom right of the screen it should say clear
Click clear then click today & yesterday or ‘all time’ whatever you prefer

I hope that works for you OP, sorry if it doesn’t!

Olivia199 · 19/11/2023 20:06

How you doing OP? Any luck?

HotSaltyWater · 19/11/2023 20:55

Fess up and ask your teenager to remove it 🤣

MenopauseSucks · 23/11/2023 17:46

@Pinleypops

Hey OP, how has it gone with your browser? Have you managed to fix it?

Pinleypops · 23/11/2023 19:07

No. I've literally wiped and deleted every cache and history I can, closed everything, read (and not understood) huge amounts of technical jargon, and the favicon for Google is still stuck on pornhub. I've set my 'search' engine to other things and I'll just have to wait and see if it vanishes on its own. It's just awful and I feel a bit broken by it all. Not just because it the actual problem but because I'm so stuck on fixing it I feel old, clueless, out of my depth with tech and very alone.

Book an appointment at the Genius Bar, and have an excuse ready, friend did it as a laugh etc. I am sure they could help.

wishing3 · 23/11/2023 19:26

Oh I’m sorry OP-sorry to hear about your husband. You could do without this stress. Im sure we’ve all had that caught-out guilty oh shit feeling a few times in our lives. You’ll sort it one way or another, or else just keep the device hidden. Stupid porn hub.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dh @Pinleypops, I am a bit further along the road than you and it's very hard. I hope you have lots of support.

I can't help you with your iPad because I am similarly crap at stuff like that but just want to say that you are not alone. Im almost sure I'll be older than you too! Big hugs.

monsteramunch · 23/11/2023 19:33

I would go to an expert and just say you have a teenager and blame it on them tbh! I'm sure an expert can fix it in no time if they can take a look in person.
