Pornhub logo is stuck on my iPad! Help!

Hi all. Putting aside your views on porn, who is good at tech stuff? I decided to see what the fuss was about and googled Pornhub yesterday evening on my iPad. Fairly grim. But now whenever I open up Google, there’s a small pornhub logo on the tab!! I am useless at tech and don’t know how to get rid of this - and I really don’t want my teenage kids to see it. I tried ‘delete history’ on Safari in setting. Can anyone else help me? Feeling horrified with myself. (A, for looking, and b, for being tech crap). Please help, embarrassed middle aged mum here.

Hi OP. I have absolutely nothing useful to add about how to fix the issue but I just wanted to remind you to take deep breaths and be kind to yourself. If you're anything like me, you will be able to think of loads of times in your life when something has gone wrong/unexpected and left you a crying mess for awhile. And then remember how most if not all of those things are now not important at all and it wasn't worth the panic!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, have your glass of wine and watch strictly. If your teens are away you could leave this til tomorrow to sort. Or just hide it and give them an excuse when they're back til you've sorted it.

therealcookiemonster · 18/11/2023 18:45

OK... open safari... open settings... go to privacy... delete cookies

there should be a tab for bookmarks and saved sites... make sure that PH is not one of your bookmarks or saved sites...

Pinleypops · 18/11/2023 18:50

@Twynklebell ok, found the App Library. But even if I click on or hold safari it doesn’t show me any option to delete it. And what other app should I look for that’s been installed? Like, is it malicious?

@Twynklebell

Close Tab.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 18/11/2023 18:52

Pinleypops · 18/11/2023 18:36

@Daffodilsandtuplips by orange tab do you mean the ‘ph’ by Google? I hold that, and it gives me a list which includes close tab, but no clear history.

I think so, I was ‘curious’ and nearly died when the orange Pornhub tab appeared on my Google screen, it wasn’t on Home Screen. I have deleted unwanted apps previously so used the same method. I’ll be back in a mo. Hang on.

Xmaspenguin · 18/11/2023 18:52

I've not read the full thread.

Have you deleted the history in your Google app? There should be your initial in the too corner. Click on that to get into your Google search history.

But I did chuckle to myself when I read this!

Twynklebell · 18/11/2023 18:53

You won't be able to remove Safari as its an IPAD - I'm guessing its a PH app thats installed. Go through all your apps and hopefuly you'll be able to see and remove it!

bananabug · 18/11/2023 18:53

Try this:

Open the Settings app (looks like a grey wheel cog), then select Safari. Scroll down, then select Clear History and Website Data. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm.

Thehonestybox · 18/11/2023 18:54

This is hilarious! I think you need to delete all the cache data from your Google account, not just the browser history

ShadowCipher · 18/11/2023 18:55

Pinleypops · 18/11/2023 16:35

@Actually444 I’ve closed everything I can think of. But then I open Google again and there it is! Arghhh. Panicking now.

here are the steps to clear cookies in the Google Chrome browser on a tablet:

Access the Menu: In the top-right corner of the screen, you should see three vertical dots. Tap on these dots to open the menu.

Go to Settings: From the menu, scroll down and select "Settings."

Access Privacy Settings: Within the Settings, scroll down to find and tap on "Privacy."

Clear Browsing Data: Under the Privacy section, look for the option "Clear browsing data" and tap on it.

Select Data to Clear: You will see a list of data types you can clear, including browsing history, cookies, and site data. Check the box next to "Cookies and site data."

Choose Time Range (Optional): You may have the option to choose a time range for the data you want to clear. Select "All time" if you want to clear all cookies.

Clear Data: Once you've selected the data you want to clear, tap on the "Clear data" or "Clear Browsing Data" button. Confirm your action if prompted.

Exit Settings: After the process is complete, you can exit the Settings and return to browsing.

Please note that these instructions might vary slightly depending on the version of Chrome and the specific tablet you are using, but the general steps should be similar.

Not techy, so sorry, can't help.

But just wanted to say how lovely so many posters are to try and help the OP without judgement.

I think someone may have linked to part of this article upthread, but try this: www.idownloadblog.com/2020/09/08/refresh-favicons-in-safari-mac/

Could it have been added as a bookmark ?

Canisaysomething · 18/11/2023 19:04

You’ve got two options:

  1. take the iPad into the garden and sprinkle some holy water on it
  2. leave it as it is and totally deny any knowledge of how it got there if anyone ever notices it
BoobyDazzler · 18/11/2023 19:05

Thank goodness for incognito mode 🥸 🤣🤣🤣

Hope you get it sorted, OP.

Canisaysomething · 18/11/2023 19:06

Seriously OP don’t panic, just say it’s a virus if anyone notices before you manage to sort it.

Pinleypops · 18/11/2023 19:09

@ShadowCipher that's super clear, and I've just managed to install chrome (and checked for future reference the three dots and steps to take). But I was using Safari and that isn't as clear. I can find 'clear history' which I've done but not anything about caches.

@Rogue1001MNer yes, obviously lots of laughing at me which is understandable but also such a lot of kind help. I'm very grateful. I've been working on this for three hours now. 🫤

Sorry if this has already been mentioned. Have you tried going into the settings for Safari and toggling Favourites on and back off? Worth also checking that PH isn't listed as a favourite

gamerchick · 18/11/2023 19:11

I asked a dude. He says, clear bookmarks, cache, history and cookies but says it looks like you've bookmarked it though.

I say if it's doing your head in, leave it till tomorrow and go back to it's fresh. Must be driving you batshit.

Pinleypops · 18/11/2023 19:13

@Canisaysomething yes. Good idea.
@WeightoftheWorld thank you. Xxxx

  1. Mobile Safari for iOS (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad)To clear cache and cookies:From the home screen, Select Settings > Safari.
  2. At the bottom of Safari's settings screen, Select Clear cookies and data or Clear Cookies and Clear Cache.
  3. Confirm when prompted.
HVPRN · 18/11/2023 19:14

How old are your teens? Teens are great with tech!

VWT5 · 18/11/2023 19:16
  • go in to “settings” - grey cogwheel
  • scroll down to “Safari” in left hand column
  • on right of that page - change browser
  • select or insert another browser (eg duck duck go)

Also just press the little grey square “x” on the PHub “tab”….to the left, to get rid of it.

twobluechickens · 18/11/2023 19:16

One thread I read said it's a known issue with safari so you're not alone. Someone else said it happened with the Amazon site so maybe do some browsing on Amazon and see if it changes? Someone else said he tried everything to no avail and it just gradually resolved itself over a few days. So if Amazon doesn't work, put it away somewhere (pretend you can't find it if anyone asks) for a few days and see if it resolves itself.

WinteryWonderland · 18/11/2023 19:17

So something I would do 🤣🤣🤣 no idea how to help, but made me laugh!
