Things people do that make you cringe?

People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

OP posts:

Holiday photos of the legs with a scenic background

Scabber · 11/11/2023 20:31

People who take comments on threads like this personally rather than in jest :)

Of course, there's many things I do that make those in here cringe!

I cringe when I see someone running for a bus (and yes, I've done that myself)

ABC17 · 11/11/2023 20:31

I let me 3yr old sit in the shopping trolly and I’m not brain dead, he doesn’t like the chair part and if it means I can get my shopping done then so be it

People who read celeb magazines, and love any talentless idiot they're told to. They often seem to be types that dream of meeting a rich man as dim as they are, like a tattoo necked footballer, who would want a cheap looking orange woman. Who then makes a living selling dumb stories about their designer handbag they can't pronounce the name of, and sell their children into the talentless celeb industry to use for their own attention. Then the meaning of style is lowered to orange women with an obvious fake chest they like showing off, and sometimes they're promoted as a fashion designer despite never spending a day working in or studying the industry.
Even if the footballer never wins anything as too busy using his highly paid job to be Kard' type talentless celeb like David Beckh am, he will think he's owed a Knighthood for hanging around royalty at charity events. They often expect to have more attention in events like Olympics, above the ones winning medals.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 11/11/2023 20:32

Teenagers who suddenly start talking with a completely different accent.

Lad you're from Dudley we've been neighbours for all of your life. Why did you sound Black Country last week but this week you have a london twang?! 🤔

WoollyBat · 11/11/2023 20:32

People putting pics of themselves, or even worse their poor children or partners, on social media when they're in a hospital bed or even an ambulance! It's not the time! How must the poor kid feel having a photo taken of them while they're lying there in pain and scared... I just find it astonishing. And the ones who pose in the ambulance or get the ambulance staff to be in the pic - the poor staff must be like "FFS"

And yes OLD pics of men with a massive dead fish. Just eurgh. But maybe they're trying to advertise that they go fishing a lot and will be out of your hair.

People who stand on the moving walkway at airports.

Isn't that part of the point of it? So it's stand on one side and walk on the other, like an escalator?

No, I believe the point is to be able to move quicker over a long distance, so you walk while you use them. Just standing on them and moving at .000001 miles per hour while everyone else has to navigate their bags around you might be the laziest, most useless thing I've ever seen.

People checking themselves into hospital on Facebook! Like the whole world needs to know and give you attention.

Must be quite scary sometimes though and they may want moral support.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 11/11/2023 20:36

Yes and people updating their social media status to announce they're tired or other stupid, irrelevant things.

Also.. ahhhh the ones who announce it's snowing!!! Because clearly nobody else has windows to know this ? 😩

WoollyBat · 11/11/2023 20:36

I can understand people using social media for support when going into hospital, and that happens on MN too. It's more the photos that do my head in.

I think creating dating profiles is always a bit cringe no matter what you put on them!

Its a bit like you’re putting yourself on eBay! Haha.

Yes, I agree, but what's the alternative. Meeting people at work is becoming taboo and people don't approach others as much as they used to in pubs and the like.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 11/11/2023 20:38

Ahhhh I just thought of another.. really angry statuses from people having a good rant (although very indirect, about someone) then all the comments asking "hey are you ok hun?".... then the cringey reply.... "I've messaged you hun"

A pet hate. I do not need to see another pair of feet. It’s not original. It’s not witty. Fuck off feet!

Gwenhwyfar · 11/11/2023 20:40

"the ones who announce it's snowing!!! Because clearly nobody else has windows to know this ? 😩"

Not everyone lives in the same place.

Lolasgame · 11/11/2023 20:42

Those parents who buy their child’s teacher outlandishly inappropriate presents at Christmas, hoping it will win favour for their precious one 🫣

Moro93 · 11/11/2023 20:46

People who think that others wearing Docs are only doing it to be ‘edgy’.

People who think it’s weird for adults to like Disney or whatever other thing they find age inappropriate. People can like whatever the hell they want!

A majority of social media in general makes me cringe. I also hate people who post their whole lives, such as tagging themselves at the hospital, not even putting what’s wrong - just a pic of a drip or a hospital wristband. Complete attention fishing.
Also, those that post a status like ‘feeling sad’ etc just to get people to comment and ask. How desperate for attention can you be!
Then the ones who post family pics and say things like ‘my world’ or ‘my gang’. And post soppy messages about their partners. The sad reality is that the people who do things like this are usually the most unhappy and just want to convince others their lives are perfect…

BeepDeep · 11/11/2023 20:47

using the word ‘bunch’ to describe something that isn’t bunched (“a bunch of time”, “a bunch of friends” etc)… Bananas, long hair and flowers can be bunched, but not water, time, salt…

Moro93 · 11/11/2023 20:48

More social media ones.

Posting their kid’s huge Christmas piles.
‘Threatening’ to delete people because they don’t like enough of their posts, or reposting the same photos a day or 2 later because they didn’t get enough likes the first time 😂

I am quite bitter about this because most of it is my family unfortunately!

Tahlullah · 11/11/2023 20:53

Wow, I’m genuinely amazed at how many minor things you and others find annoying. Perhaps try to focus on your own life rather than the lives of others?

Thistlewoman · 11/11/2023 20:53

People over the age of 12 who say 'super' when they mean 'very' (as in "I'm super excited.." etc.) I just sounds f*ing stupid.

I cringe for people who lack a sense of humour and miss that most posters are being lighthearted.

Delphinium20 · 11/11/2023 20:55

I'm an American. They are sometimes used interchangeably, but takeout is when you order food to be be picked up or delivered. To-go is sometimes used when you're in a restaurant and decide you don't have a lot of time so you order something 'to go' meaning you might have eaten dinner but want to take your dessert boxed up or another meal for the kids at home so they put it in a to-go box and you take it home. But these uses might change depending where in the country you live.

The letter J is pronounced jay

Some Scotts (not all) pronounce it J-eye. To rhyme with eye

Any idea why people called Scott have this particular pronunciation?

Lolasgame · 11/11/2023 20:55

The simple fact they’re in the supermarket might tell you why, also they could have had little to no food for days and are counting down the minutes until their wage goes in their bank.

Aurora93 · 11/11/2023 20:56

A lot of people on here are seriously uptight.

How do you cope with everyday life when so many small, insignificant things make you ‘cringe’?
