You’re out for a coffee, cake and people watching in a cafe, what annoys you and spoils the experience?

People who “talk” so loudly that even in a busy cafe you can follow their full conversation.

Engage your child in conversation at home, where you don't bother others.
Especially if it's 'on their level'.

This is nuts! 😂Since when was it socially unacceptable to talk to young children when out in public? Pretty sure even the Victorians didn't treat children quite this disparagingly.

TigerRag · 01/11/2023 19:11

When the person in front of you nabs the last piece of brownie you had your eye on!

I've literally never heard anyone doing it. You all must live near some very strange people.

Ditto... I've never heard a parent chatting away to their child and thought "wow, what an elaborate act they're putting on". It's just one human interacting with another human in a way they can understand.

Oh, you can talk to them.......this thread and remarks are focusing on performance parenting. Surely you're witnessed that?

I've honestly never heard a parent talking to their small child and thought it was all an act for everyone else in the cafe. What a strange idea.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/11/2023 19:15

One would assume @guineakoo is that parent which is why they haven't witnessed is. They're louder.

Ibizabar · 01/11/2023 19:16

Adults who can't tolerate any noise in a cafe and think the world revolves around them and their lattes.

Arrestedforit · 01/11/2023 19:16

I have an extremely quiet voice. My friends always ask me to repeat myself because I speak so quietly.

I think this is probably the case..............

It's not 'an idea'. This thread is about what annoys customers in cafes; not theories.

Dogs everywhere

Someone coming to sit next to me

I agree. Fortunately it rarely happens.

Kids running around in the cafe also kill the mood.

Barney60 · 01/11/2023 19:25

All of above + people /children who constantly scape their chair across the floor, maybe im just getting less tolerant as i get older.

SweetBirdsong · 01/11/2023 19:25

Haven't read all the responses (too many of them!) But what annoys me is when someone comes and sits right next to me, especially when there are vacant seats elsewhere. It's annoying when I'm on my own, and also when I'm with a friend, as I feel they're listening to our private conversation.

One time, (some months back.) these 2 women were sitting near me in a cafe, and they were speaking about something political (between themselves,) and they were fairly quiet. After a few minutes, this man - sitting at the table next to them - pipes up and tells them their views and opinions are 'wrong.' Cheeky article, butting into their private conversation.

One of the women shut him down though, she said 'you're not part of this conversation you nosey cunt. We give zero fucks about your opinion. Piss off.' He was like Shock and then Blush

Catusrusty · 01/11/2023 19:33

Other people.

Can it just be me in the cafe? If so, top notch.

princefamilypaper · 01/11/2023 19:45

People having zoom meetings with no headphones

Toomuchtrouble4me · 01/11/2023 19:51

People with chesty coughs or blowing their noses, persistent phleghmy throat clearers. I always get mine in takeaway packaging in case said nose blower arrives and I need to make a hasty exit.

outsidesleeper · 01/11/2023 19:52

Creepy men trying to start a conversation

Children who are out of control - eg. running around, screaming etc.

Performance parenting of little Tarquin types

Dogs

These days I don't go and sit in cafes though, the prices have ruined it for me. I just don't consider it to be worth it anymore.

Bertiesmum3 · 01/11/2023 19:53

The cost of coffee!
so I no longer go
When I did though, it would be children screaming and throwing tantrums, parents saying no to them and then eventually giving in to them!

BCBird · 01/11/2023 19:55

People who don't parent their children

MadMadaMim · 01/11/2023 20:07

People wearing overpowering perfume /aftershave
Children not sitting at the table with parents/careers
Children being noisy
Adults being noisy
Dogs
Sticky table
People tapping - anything
People trying to engage with me if I'm alone, assuming I must be sad / lonely
Music too loud
Please breathing too loudly
People chewing /sipping/drinking/eating loudly

If I really thought about it, I'm sure I could double that list.

I don't go out much for all above reasons 😁

Musicstopsplaying · 01/11/2023 20:08

Lollyloup81 · 01/11/2023 18:40

Rude employees who don't say "sorry for the weight" or even "what can I get you?" That'll just look at you and wait for you to talk.
Also when the tables are dirty and the staff are just focusing on making food/drinks

I'm always happy when the person serving doesn't say 'sorry for the weight', especially if I'm about to order cake 😂

comedycentral · 01/11/2023 20:17

The only table left is near the door and it's draughty 😭

Jeannie88 · 01/11/2023 20:58

Other people being in there 🙄
