You win the prize Emma 😻

Lovely dinner Havoc

Hope the roofers return soon Math

Hope you are Ok @Lemonsandlemonade

I e-mailed Prok and got a reply straight back, more pancreatic cancer treatment but was able to give a nice update on her family.

DH is playing the piano before his piano lesson and will bring home a Thai takeaway afterwards which I have ordered. For once DH said he wanted something, normally he claims he won't have anything then eats parts of everyone else's. We all know so can plan though.

DD told me that sometimes my e-mails to her are in perfect English and sometimes its like she has an e-mail from a 18 year old drunk friend as words are missing. 😂I don't drink but do type quickly sometimes. I have ordered a few things for Christmas.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/11/2023 19:21

Hi Silkie am good DS been poorly again had a temp of 40 which didn’t come down with Calpol and ibuprofen. He is loads better today but last night was horrific. Had two hours sleep max.

Have work appraisal this week.

Am pleased you have heard from Prok. I do think of her.

Silkiefloof · 27/11/2023 20:05

Hope your DS gets better soon Lemons and hope appraisal goes well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/11/2023 20:34

Hang in there, Lemons. I know how difficult it is caring for sick dc. 🩷
Thanks for update re Prok, Silkie. Sounds awful and hoping for the best. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Funny about comments by your dd re your emails! 😂I've mostly given up on typos etc. 🤷‍♀️

Have had heavy fog here which has now lifted. Heading home from gymnastics (Havoc, not me!) for lunch. Plan is to finish tidying deck, get Cheistmas lights out and sorted, go buy tree a d put it up. 🤞🤞🤞

MissConductUS · 27/11/2023 21:35

I hope your son is better soon Lemons. High fevers like that are pretty typical in kids and not usually a cause for concern.

Silkie, I'm glad you heard from Prok. Does she still follow this thread at all? Re the fast typing, I use a software service called Grammarly that checks my writing as I type. It's brilliant. I'm embarrassed at how many mistakes it catches. The company behind it is Ukrainian and it uses AI to improve your writing. It also works in Outlook and Word, which is a big help at work.

The plumbers have come and gone. They replaced all of the pipes under the sink, as they were all pretty bad, and put a new drain basket in the sink, as that was rotting out, too. What a relief to have it working again.

DD and her fiancee are in the air on their way back from Florida and are due to land soon. They were going to try to return by train, but they would have gotten home too late, so DH arranged a limo to pick them up at the airport. DD drives back to uni tomorrow.

Slept all afternoon with Havoc after gymnastics... I hit the wall when we got home after having been awake 4am-7-am. 🤷‍♀️
Have now got Rudolph on tv and am using up leftovers for dinner. Adding penne and grated pecorino.

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2023 06:24

Congratulations Tillly lovely wet November news. Did all go smoothly?

I got a few things Mallard I’m really just titting about round the edges, I need to do the substantial ones, the 4DC, DH, our DMs, and have no inspiration at all for any.

Thanks for the update Silkie I think of Prok and hold her in prayer.

Lemons hope DS feels much better soon, how are you feeling about the appraisal?

bizzey · 28/11/2023 16:38

Hello all...
An untouristy picture of the Shard !

I had a hospital appointment this morning with ds .
When we came out of hospital, we were deciding what to do for the rest of the day as we were in a part of London we don't normally do.

I said ....ohhh I think the Shard is around here some where...

He said....

Mum
..turn around !! 🤣🤣

It was behind me !! 🤣🤣

I’m glad to hear you’ve been in touch with Prok, Silkie. If you email her again, please do give her my best. I often think of her.

Coming home through central London tonight, the moon was amazing. I wish I’d taken a picture earlier because it was between two buildings as I came down a street and weirdly looked even more huge than it does in that photo.

EmmaEmerald · 28/11/2023 19:23

@HildaTablet is that, by any chance, John Adam Street, or Adelphi Street, or any in that little zone?

HildaTablet · 28/11/2023 20:04

@EmmaEmerald no, it’s Gower Place, just round the corner from Euston. I can see why you thought that, though!

EmmaEmerald · 28/11/2023 20:17

@HildaTablet Ah, I should have realised that! Both places where I worked for around 6 years, but it's the Adelphi area that I'm most sentimental about...which is probably why I thought I saw it!

Beautiful pic, thanks for sharing.

Silkiefloof · 29/11/2023 00:13

Just made 2 sacks of rubbish then went swimming and to jacuzzi and steam room, and a coffee in cafe there with DH, did 117 lengths so pleased with that (15m pool)

Bins are out for collection.

Floof is super cuddly and trilly and playful. DD has a pre interview listen in thing with Oxford tomorrow but just has to log in and listen so easy.

Bizzey Good photo of shard. Hope hospital was OK.

Lovely food Havoc

I don't think Prok currently reads thread MissC think she's trying to get affairs in order and be with family as much as possible. Glad plumbing is sorted.

I will do Hilda and lovely London picture.

Ordered a few more things for Christmas - MN had a link to Fortnum and Mason and ordered a few things from there but gosh its pricey. DS always wanted coal as a joke for Christmas and they have chocolate coal so got some of that, a lobster bottle opener, some small hedgehog and tortoise chocolates, a tote bag and a musical gramophone advent calendar. Also ordered a couple of models to build from Amazon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/11/2023 02:10

Silkie, very productive! 👍☺️
Bizzey&Hilda, thanks for sharing pics! 😃
Miss, did you get any snow? I heard flurries were in the forecast. ❄️

Went for Santa pic today, but only place for pics w/o appt was closed. 🤦‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/11/2023 02:30

Oh, and I'm thinking about cooking a duck for Christmas. I'm formulating an orange/cranberry/brandy/butter au jus to go with. Green beans with almonds. Roasted acorn squash with thyme. And scalloped potatoes. Just thinking aloud...

sueelleker · 29/11/2023 07:46

Been pruning some shrubs with a mini-chainsaw I got from Amazon! It's brilliant for branches that are too thick for pruning shears.

Deathraystare · 29/11/2023 15:32

@Silkiefloof

Mmmmm Thai food! My favourite!!

Sadly, our Book club lunch is now not happening as it needs to be ordered in. Which we knew but I guess lunch for this Friday was not time enough? Hopefully we can still go there for the normal stuff. I love the Macaroni Cheese with garlic bread!

@bizzey How funny re the Shard! I remember turning a corner in Moscow and coming across St Basil's Cathedral! It was smaller than I thought and looked like a toy!

@Mumtobabyhavoc Scalloped potatoes, yum!

Silkiefloof · 29/11/2023 15:43

Its my favourite too Death Shame they can't get food in for Friday.

Is Havoc2 due after Christmas Havoc? I hope you can get some rest before you have two little ones.

DD has gone to school and will do Oxford thing after school but its just listen in, we have got more cat biscuits and Tamoxifen in. Watched Below Deck Med. Drinking tea and Floof is a bit hyper atm.

bizzey · 29/11/2023 16:13

Thanks Silkie !

An MRI is our next adventure!!

A couple of Christmas ago I bought older ds a scratch off 100 cheeses poster, as he loves cheese !

A bit like those scratch off places of the world you have visited maps .
I said jokingly to D's that I should get him a scratch off poster for hospitals , departments and procedures he has had so far !

I said , apart from OBS and Gyne.he has done early all...

He asked ..
What was OBS and Gyne..

I said , .ladies bits and pregnancy!

Ohhh ...he replied!

bizzey · 29/11/2023 16:17

I was absolutely exhausted yesterday when we got home !

Re charged a bit today though still had phone problems .

Such a long story that is even too mundane for this thread 😅!

bizzey · 29/11/2023 16:20

Havoc ...your menu sounds amazing!

IWanderedLonely · 29/11/2023 20:00

Made too much tea ( toad in the hole, roast potatoes and parsnips, carrot & seede mash, broccoli and gravy) so plated up a portion for DS for tomorrow, we're off to Wales straight after work.

EmmaEmerald · 29/11/2023 20:05

@IWanderedLonely Sounds yum!
I got a supermarket delivery today. Seems remarkably little for what I paid. I don't live near Aldi any more but Tesco say they are price matching a lot of stuff.

MissConductUS · 29/11/2023 21:24

Silkie, unfortunately the plumbing was not sorted. The kitchen sink clogged last night, so we ate on paper plates again last night. DH has a contractor who does nothing but clear clogged drains. They came out this morning and cleared it. He explained that plumbing work often causes drains to clog as knocking the pipes about causes the material clinging to the pipes to come off and collect in a spot that causes a clog. Fingers crossed that the kitchen sink is finally sorted for the foreseeable future.

Havoc, we did get some snow flurries yesterday. Fortunately, nothing stuck. Our snow blower is still at the shop, along with the generator for service. I'll have to ask DH to ring the shop and find out when they will return them. There's no snow in the ten-day forecast; knock on wood.

In dull wedding news, the save the date cards are done. I should have them in a few days. The envelopes are already addressed, so I just have to put the cards in them, add a stamp, and take them to the post office.

DS has started looking for a new job and already has two interviews scheduled. Both are in the Boston area, so that sounds like a clue that he'd like to move back there. He was in the Boston area when he attended uni. That's also where DD will be moving next summer, so they may both be there.

By coincidence, I'm attending a brief conference in Boston next week and will be taking the train there next Thursday and returning the following Saturday.

Death, what about a pot-luck? Shame not to have lunch.
Iwandered, I'll take a plate! 😄
Silkie, Dec 28 for surgery. Home either Dec 30 or 31. Have you heard the expression, "No rest for the wicked..." 🤣🤣
Miss, it would be convenient if both DC lived in the same city! What a pain re plumbing. Do you have a snake? I use that and a toilet plunger. If it doesn't work I then call the pros.

Gorgeous day here after the fog lifted (have had fog for almost a week night through to noon-ish). Havoc fell asleep at 12:45 and I'm just scrolling.... I should be puttering. 🤦‍♀️
Managed to get Havoc to school this morning and was glad we made it. Child development specialist was there today and gave me some lovely feedback on my parenting approach and Havoc's development. (Sorry to be a tall poppy, but it was nice). I don't have any concerns about Havoc, it's just something the school district does to try and prevent children needing help from falling through the cracks. They also bring in dental hygienists every few months for oral checks, fluoride and referrals if needed. It's quite impressive, actually.
Bizzey, quite funny informing your ds about obgyn. 😁

I might do a trial-run Christmas dinner this weekend...
