Floof is on his way over MissC one leap should do it if there's a giant turkey the other side. Enjoy your lovely meal.

Sorry you have spent all your money Mallards Hope payday comes quickly.

We are having a roast now and Floof is very excited.

mathanxiety · 23/11/2023 20:49

It's time for the annual airing of this classic:

Happy Thanksgiving, MissC and family, and safe travels.

Having a nice lazy day here. DS has sent me photos of the repast he and his GF have cooked. It looks great.

EmmaEmerald · 23/11/2023 21:15

Loving the idea of Floof being excited at the prospect of a roast.

you will not belieeeeeve the day I've had...

so I won't go on about it but will just have a vodka tonic and look at cats online!

Silkiefloof · 23/11/2023 22:52

Hope you are OK Emma Feel free to go on about it if it helps.

We had our quickly organised Thanksgiving roast dinner and DH took it into DS told him we were having a Thanksgiving dinner and he ate it all. Floof was also happy.

So swimming tomorrow instead.

Just heard Floof trilling. He is super cuddly at the moment and zoomy. And 3am paper rustly. I may send him now to the US Thanksgivings dinners so he will come back so stuffed we will be able to sleep. He's very hyper and very trilly.

sproutsandparsnips · 23/11/2023 22:54

I need to know now Emma!
Hope you are having lovely Thanksgiving Miss and anyone else celebrating.
I went Christmas shopping Mallards and all I got were some Christmas napkins and two hot chocolate stirrers....
Although I have just ordered calendars and diaries with photos of DCs for my parents and in-laws.
Thank you Havoc and Silkie.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 24/11/2023 00:32

Emma I can recommend Owls Of The Day on Instagram. I've just been watching, so unbelievably cute.

Perhaps one day I may develop some small amount of your restraint Sprouts.

As an experimental cook that made me laugh Math.

Thanks Silkie.

Hope you enjoyed the meal MissC.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2023 06:26

Hope pay day come round soon mallards!

MissC Hope you are enjoying Thanksgiving .

Silkie I mean a iPad is the least the LA could do for your DS.

DS seems back to his happy self eating and sleeping better. I know this sounds off beam but a few people in work have had same symptoms as DS off food and finding hard to sleep.

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 08:20

I was off work yesterday and instead went with a friend to our twice annual I deal Home Exhibition. For anyone across the pond (you probably have similar) it is basically a lot of stalls upstairs and some furniture , home stuff downstairs. they have food stalls but chips were £4!!!!

This was the Christmas one some lots of stalls with Christmas decorations, tree hangings and rather too many stalls selling baking paraphenalia. Ok I get the bake off thing but even so!

I did not buy much but got some temporary tattoos with sharks and dinosaurs for my nephews and a jade bracelet for me. This was from one of those crystal stores where you can get stones that help your memory (should have got that one!), serenity etc etc but I reckoned I had better get jade for luck otherwise I would end up with 20 different bracelets on my wrist! ) Not saying I believe in it mind, but cannot hurt can it?

Annoyingly no 'goodie bag' in sight and the only freebie were love heart sweets. Last year we got boxes of hand sanitiser (in my drawer at work, we won't run out for years, though I work in NHS so I guess when we do we can still get some) and some cat food which I gave to a friend who knows a cat shelter owner.

People seemed to be buying loads of bakeware stuff and packets of bread mix. There were a few samples of food (mainly cheese) and booze but this was a mixed bag. A bottle of Christmas pudding rum tasted very watered down. Not spicy or alcoholic at all but some others tasted gorgeous. Very crowded. Did not manage to get a seat to have a cuppa tea so went to a cafe afterwards for a cuppa and delighted in the fact that my omelette and chips costed only slightly more than the I deal Home's chips! Anyway, I had a good time and it was nice to go out with a friend and walk a lot without getting too tired (looking forward to how many steps I did!)

sueelleker · 24/11/2023 08:50

Deathraystare; my SIL and I used to go to the Christmas Ideal Home show every year. You used to be able to try so many samples that you didn't need to buy lunch! I agree, it's gone off a lot-we don't bother now.

HildaTablet · 24/11/2023 09:41

@mathanxiety I absolutely love that song, it makes me laugh so much. It’s even more delicious that William Bolcom was - indeed is - such an eminent composer.

whyyy321 · 24/11/2023 09:52

Hope all those celebrating enjoyed their Thanksgiving! I have never tried pumpkin pie but it feels like one of those classic thanksgiving things that I'd love to try should I ever be in the states at the right time. Do you do turkey with all the usual trimmings- roasties, gravy, etc? My mum used to make a lovely cauliflower cheese at Christmas which I still dream of now.

I also enjoy the idea of genetic thanksgiving memory in silkies floof!

In slight exciting news, I have been offered a new job! There are some difficulties with my professional registration not arriving in time (I am training in a protected title/profession, but not yet qualified) so it might not be straight forward, which has taken a little of the shine off. Feeling a bit stressed as the reason for the delay is my thesis, which is delayed because of my maternity leave. And it is very delayed.... eek.

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 10:46

@sueelleker

Indeedy yes! I can remember all the foody bits. Thai veg soup sample from the blender company (cannot remember name), toasted cheese sandwich from the Breville like company, loads of cheese, juices and teas, sausages for my friend, bottles of Yakult. Well, at least we got free tickets!

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 10:48

@whyyy321

Good news re job! I am sure it will be all sorted out soon.

sueelleker · 24/11/2023 10:50

The blender company was probably Bamix. I've still got the one I bought there.

Silkiefloof · 24/11/2023 11:34

Oxford Uni interview offer this morning for DD. Only interview 18% and offer 5%.

Congratulations on job why.

whyyy321 · 24/11/2023 12:31

Oh wow, congrats to your daughter silkie!! What an achievement, you must be very proud :)

EmmaEmerald · 24/11/2023 12:34

Silkie congrats to your DD.

but I must admit I don't know what those % mean... 😳

Why congrats to you!

Silkiefloof · 24/11/2023 12:38

Thanks very much Why and Emma Emma it means for every 100 candidates who apply for a place at Oxford Uni Economics and Management course, 82 get rejected and 18 get an interview. Then of those 18 who are interviewed (end of first week of Dec) 5 get an offer of a place in January (for Sept 24), 11 get rejected.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2023 15:44

Silkie, wonderful news for your dd! 🤓🤗
Bizzey, I think I might panic if I found a critter like that in my house, let alone bedroom! What about mess????? 🤔😮
Death, sad when things change like that...everything is so expensive and often quality is worse...
Mouse, I agree about the lights! I do a real tree each year still, but put it outdoors on the deck and just cover it in lights. I quite like i that way: nice to look at and no mess indoors. Lasts longer, too.
Sprouts, will look forward to hearing about Luminate!
Lemons, glad ds is feeling better. 😌

Made a spur of the moment decision to go to Glow yesterday on opening night. Havoc loved it. Drive was horrendous, though!
So much to see and probably only covered half. Expensive food, but par for course. Havoc was very cute enjoying singers on stage and clapping and swaying to music. ❤Was quite shy of Santa, though, so no picture.
Have been awake since 4:30am...ugh (it's now 730am). Five hours sleep or there about. Quite chilly last night, was afraid I had overdressed Havoc in snow pants, boots, and jacket, but it was down to 3c and I was freezing when we were outside despite wearing my winter boots and long wool coat!

That’s a fantastic achievement by your DD Silkie, congrats to her.

@Deathraystare I don’t know whether you’ve made it to Regent St yet but I just walked down a bit of it leaving work and took a couple of pics of the lights….

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2023 18:03

Very pretty, Hilda.

bizzey · 24/11/2023 19:15

Ohhh it's a chilly night in London tonight !

It had been so mild the past few days ..

I put a bin bag out ..and felt the cold around my ankles 😅!

2 DC's have gone out...and I am in a rebellious mood ...I have put the heating on !

I don't normally bother when it is just me at home ...and I am not doing much bar watching TV.

But I feel I need to warm the actual brickwork of the house up , rather than me so to speak.

House is back to normal now after the workmen .
Took me a while to get organised...but once I started I did really well.

Getting ready for a bath and facemask and pamper now !

bizzey · 24/11/2023 19:19

Re the Pumpkin...

Years ago when ds 1 was 5 months old (when you could wean at 4 months old )
We had a NTC (pregnancy group)

Their first Halloween an American lady in our NCT organised a little party for the babies and gave them all little pots of Pumpkin puree.

Pumpkin always reminds me of that day .

It was the first of many homemade costumes I made for the boys !

bizzey · 24/11/2023 19:23

Re my housework spurt ....
Interestingly ....we are heading towards a full moon in the next few days !!!

IWanderedLonely · 24/11/2023 21:09

Bizzey I wish the full moon would give me some energy - Friday afternoon's are the only time I'm at home with no grandchildren. I've got a to-do list as long as my arm, what did I do? Had a 1.5 hour nap!
Have wrapped a couple of presents this evening and finished my Christmas cards though.
Silkies well done to your DD.
