I didn't realise you could still get MrFreeze, thought they went in about 1980 here. A bit cold for them outside though for me.

bizzey · 21/11/2023 00:31

Lovely catching up with everyone!
Thank you for asking about me .
What a weekend !!

Water went on after a bit of a struggle!

It was something to do with the pressure in the boiler/pipes that needed adjusting.

Place is a mess ...

That came this morning to plaster..
Tomorrow they will come back to paint .

I had ds visiting this weekend to sort out stuff to bring back to his new little flat ....

He took some stuff...

House looks more of a mess than when he came 🤣

I had a birthday present for gf of visiting DS.

Looked int the wardrobe and got it .....
And then realised ...I have bought a lot of Christmas presents that I had forgot about 🤣🤣.

Must stay off the Christmas Bargain thread !

I am gearing myself up for a. " Purdy and Figg " (!!!) day when workmen have finished !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/11/2023 01:17

Bizzey, hope your place is sorted soon.
Silkie, had 1/2 a chocolate croissant today. It was ok. That piano looks quite interesting - and old.
Merry, where were you out walking? Anywhere interesting (without being too outing)?

After gymnastics I took Havoc to the planetarium (for the first time) for the afternoon. Managed about 15 minutes of the film showing (looked amazing) before Havoc was asking to play so we quietly slipped out. Hadn't been there in years, so quite enjoyed it. The displays were interesting and Havoc had a lot of fun.

Planning on a few Christmas events for Havoc: Christmas market downtown, Vandusen Gardens, Canada Christmas train, and maybe a trek way out to a suburb, Langley, for their display, Glow.

VanDusen Festival of Lights - November 24 to January 7

Experience the Festival of Lights, a magical winter wonderland with over one million lights decorating VanDusen Botanical Garden.

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 01:23

Glad you have water again Bizzey

Havoc Those Christmas events look good. We have a Christmas lights at the botanical gardens weekend after next. Yes that piano is over 200 years old.

Just watching Below Deck Med.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/11/2023 02:52

Silkie, what a treat to see and hear that piano being played! Sounds like good quality tv time!!! 👍😂

Dinner was spaghetti, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, prawns and pecorino. 😋

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 02:54

Sounds lovely Havoc

Guess who is hyper at 2.55am chasing Christmas robins and trilling and poking DH. Our favourite pest. 😻

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/11/2023 03:43

Silkie, Floof is the eternal toddler (minus the tantrums, I think). 🥰

Deathraystare · 21/11/2023 10:01

@bizzey

Sounds like things are getting better!

@Mumtobabyhavoc

I love those Festival of Lights thingies! My friends and I went to Kew last year and it was fantastic! Despite not being able to walk much, I only sat down once! We were chatting after we enjoyed a pantomime about where we should go this year. Unfortunately if I am going it cannot be anywhere to big or hilly. I would like to see the Regent Street lights again this year. Yes I believe they are the same as last year but I don't mind cos they were lovely!

@Silkiefloof

So he has the zoomies! Obviously excited about Christmas!

I will be popping down to Hampshire soon for a holiday with friends (coach trip to Torquay for 'Tinsle and Turkey') and before I get back to London will stay overnight in Hampshire at my Brother's place. Him and Sil have two new cats. When the last one died they said no more cats but I am glad they decided to! I said I would like to come down and see the cats, but of course I would like to see the humans too!!

I went to a cafe yesterday. Only had about £4 in my purse. Decided a cuppa could wait until I got back home so had double egg and chips. I was surprised when one of the guys approached with a cuppa tea for me! I guess the fact that I asked how much the double egg and chips was clued him in to my finances! I really appreciated that!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/11/2023 13:07

Hi everyone....😵‍💫
It's 5am and I've been awake since 1:30 after about only 2 1/2 hrs sleep. 😥
Just scrolling MN and listening to vids on YouTube. Need to be up by 8 to get Havoc to school for 9 (although I could put it off til Wednesday as not mandatory...). Had planned school for tomorrow and play/adventure day for Wed as weather looks to be sunny on Wed.
ie aquarium
Ugh.

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 13:17

Hope you can get rest soon Havoc Yes Floof is like a toddler minus tantrums he's full of silly energy, woke me up at 6am but always cheerful.

Yes zoomies is what it is Death

Had call with Maudsley about DS who were great but operate via our local cahms who appear to have disappeared for last couple of months.

mathanxiety · 21/11/2023 17:45

I've nabbed your dough recipe, Havoc, and I'm going to use it next time I make pizza.

We're having a drippy and raw day here, a day for winter coats and woolly socks.

I get a total of five days off for Thanksgiving if I include the weekend. Definitely something to be thankful for Smile
DD4 and I will be the only ones here. We're going to make a Thai chicken curry and have a pumpkin pie all to ourselves.

A roofing company has been pulling the landlord's leg promising to redo the roof for over a month now. Several starting dates have come and gone, but they have stowed tarps and some other gear in the back yard. The latest promised day to begin work is tomorrow, with work winding up on Saturday. They will take Thanksgiving off. I'll believe it when I see it.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 21/11/2023 19:52

Wandered my ex was a snorer. I'm certain there's a special place in hell reserved for them. One of the many reasons he's an ex.

Emma what did you think of Sherlock? I bought the DVD box set when it came out, I'd seen some of it on TV and loved it.

Hope the repairs go without hitches Bizzey.

Fingers crossed the roofers arrive this time Math.

Spent most of today filling up the freezer and having a pre-christmas-décor declutter everywhere. All tidy now ready for decorating on 1st December ☺️

whyyy321 · 21/11/2023 20:42

Yes I am the rogue veggie!

Oh I loved Sherlock, Emma. I hope you enjoyed your box set. Everyone's thanksgiving plans are making me feel very cosy, even over here in Scotland where it isn't a thing! We had the annual Christmas light turn on the other night - we planned to go and watch but babywhyyy did not co-operate as he was knackered from nursery. I'd love to go next year.

Beautiful day here today, had the dog on the beach before work and there was a lovely low sunrise, making it all look orangey and warm (though it was freezing). Walked back via the baker for rolls so we could have fried egg and tattie scones on a roll for lunch, delicious. Over to MiL for tea (she has DS on a Tuesday) which means no need to work out what to make, bliss.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2023 20:50

Havoc, your pizza dough recipe sounds too much like work. I'll continue to buy mine at the Italian supermarket, but props to you for making your own.

Math, I'm off for five days too, counting the weekend. It sounds like you missed the worst of the storm that's arriving here tonight and tomorrow. Roofing always takes longer than expected. Is it leaking? If they're redoing the whole roof, that's a big job. And it will be noisy.

DD has arrived and departed for the airport with her fiancee. DH left some cash for her to cover her taxi from the train station (Grand Central Terminal) in NYC to the airport. Her flight leaves around 8:00, so she should have plenty of time to get there.

My new laptop arrived. DS had to sign for the delivery. So I'll have the long weekend to set it up and get my files transferred. I'll do that when I'm not making mashed potatoes or am semi-comatose from eating too much turkey.

@MallardsMoorhensAndLethe I didn’t end up watching Sherlock as I was too tired. Today’s been exhausting as well.

I saw it when it was on TV and I really enjoyed it. So much humour. Also a big fan of Elementary.

@MissConductUS I did some work in NY and I love the expression “props to you” but I find most people in England don’t know it.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2023 21:23

Emma, I wasn't aware that the expression didn't travel across the pond. Every day is a school day on MN.

It's grand that you know NY. How long did you spend here, and where in NY did you live?

OP posts:
EmmaEmerald · 21/11/2023 21:57

@MissConductUS They put us up on the Upper East Side. It was on and off about two years, so staying in a sort of apart-hotel type place. So lovely and a proper space for roof parties. Don't want to be too specific as I'm sure I know people on MN 😂

The Frick Collection is my favourite gallery in the world, it's just so special. I have spent many an evening in Martini's which was on 7th and 55th if I recall correctly but that's closed now. Also loved Pravda on Layayette Street, now also closed. Makes me feel old! 😂

So much fun....I am baffled by people who think New Yorkers and Londoners are not friendly. Not my experience at all.

I'd like to see more of the US but I've done a lot of travel and not sure I can face more! I loved California but never had a chance to work there.

Was offered work in Boston but my parents' health was a big concern by then. Never been so I would have been going with zero knowledge. Looks lovely though.

don't think I will get to sleep early so looking for a podcast.....I seem to have a few ghost ones on my list but perhaps 10pm is not the time for those.

HelenaJustina · 21/11/2023 22:10

Productive day working at home, got home from actual work at 10:30am and got loads done. Don’t know that I could hack it full time though, too quiet and too easy to get sidetracked. Plus I’ve ended up dipping back in to work way later than my actual hours.

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 22:12

Hope you get your roof done Math

We used to have the phrase hats off to you growing up but when I used it in London once noone else knew it and they all thought I must have been from a posh family but I am not. Think it's just an old phrase from times when everyone wore hats.

Just been swimming and DH came to for his first time in a few weeks but he got tired quickly so I only got to do 68 lengths and jacuzzi and sauna but he said we can go on Thursday as well. DD texted him you aren't swimming again are you two? 😂Parents.

Finally got hold of cahms.

EmmaEmerald · 21/11/2023 22:31

@HelenaJustina Being paid for quiet sounds like my dream

@Silkiefloof
68 lengths, wow. Re "hats off", I'm assuming the current "chapeau" comes from there.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/11/2023 22:34

Hope you get the roof sorted Math.

Silkie am ok thanks for asking. DH not been well with bad chest the past month. I have little sympathy as he won’t go to the doctors. DS is going through a no to everything phase including rejecting mummy.

How is your DS Silkie?

Havoc Hope you got some rest!

Started nativity play practice in work. Person responsible for the production takes it very seriously. I on the other hand do not. The children are only little and it’s not the west end!

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 22:53

Emma Asked French DH and he said chapeau is the same but also very old fashioned.

Lemons DS also used to say no so much I renamed him Mr No which he used to find really amusing. He was also Mummy magnet as so attached. DS still isn't great, been on phone to Maudsley and cahms today though when we went swimming came back to find he bathed and changed clothes and used no less than 3 of my shower gels, around a whole one in total. One of them does say mood boosting. 😆

Silkiefloof · 21/11/2023 22:57

DH has found we have a hedgehog in our garden.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
bizzey · 21/11/2023 23:55

Ohhh Silkie !
That's late for a 🦔?

I mean time of year ..not late at night 😅!
Ime have been quiet for a few weeks now .
