Is this outfit TOO much for a retail interview?

BigBrothersLittleSistee · 14/10/2023 20:15

I have an interview next week, although I have some retail experience it's not really my work background.
And the retail job I had before I didn't really have a proper interview as such.

Is this outfit too much?

TIA x

The second outfit for sure. The first one was too much ‘going out on the town’ vibe.

good luck!!

I agree. However… this last outfit would look much better if you tucked in your shirt. The low bun is a good idea.

NewDogOwner · 17/10/2023 10:34

This is not an interview outfit. I would also wear tights to cover the leg tattoo.

doitwithlove · 17/10/2023 10:38

Outfit looks fine, tights & a cardigan would compliment it nicely.

To be honest, the interviewer should be interested in your experience rather than what you are wearing.

Good luck 🤞🏾

She’s wearing trousers now . Keep up 🤣

toomanyleggings · 17/10/2023 10:40

It’s definitely too much if you’re going for the job at the works. Just a blouse and trousers is fine

PerspiringElizabeth · 17/10/2023 10:50

People really suggesting black trousers and white shirt like they’re back at secondary school 😂 second outfit is a winner OP!

InAPickle12345 · 17/10/2023 11:04

@BigBrothersLittleSistee The second outfit is fab, and I would prefer the tucked in look 👌 Blazer would be nice but not essential.

Best of luck with the interview! 🙌🏻

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 17/10/2023 11:14

You look great in both outfits but the second one is more suitable for an interview. Just picking up on something you said upthread - the assistant in our local branch has the most amazing hair - when I went in last week it was turquoise. I always tell her how lovely it is.

jenpil · 17/10/2023 12:00

Cropped leggings revealing tattoos are never good, and definitely not at a job interview.

inappropriateraspberry · 17/10/2023 12:29

Love the shirt outfit! Looks better tucked in I think. I don't think a blazer is necessary, unless really cold!

TruthRevolution · 17/10/2023 12:48

The second outfit is fine for an interview OP, good luck with it.

To all those saying that the first outfit is like a night out outfit, what on earth are you all wearing on a night out?!

Good job nobody hasn't worn them or suggested them here then isn't it 🙄

SpacePotato · 17/10/2023 13:59

2nd outfit looks nice.

Definitely don't need a blazer. Unless you are going for management position.

BigBrothersLittleSistee · 17/10/2023 16:06

I've been invited for an interview for somewhere else on the same day after my the works interview!! 😬
Its a clothes store, so I feel a lot better about the trousers and blouse combo now 😀

A blazer would look nice with the second outfit. It would also make a good first impression - you could always take it off once the interview gets started.

KnitFastDieWarm · 17/10/2023 16:18

second outfit is perfect! it says ‘i’m smart and professional, but also practical and ready to lift boxes etc if necessary’ 😀the first outfit is lovely too but maybe save for a more dressy occasion.
Good luck!

Olika · 17/10/2023 17:31

Second blouse much better. Good luck with your interviews!

How did you get on OP?

WinterVibes · 20/10/2023 22:37

You look lovely, but the top is a bit too 'out with the girls Friday eve' vibes. Maybe tone the top down to a white blouse or add a black jacket or something? Just mu honest opinion.

I realised after I posted 🤦‍♂️ my bad!

BigBrothersLittleSistee · 21/10/2023 07:40

@CandyLeBonBon I feel like the works interview went really well, and I think it couldn't have gone better tbh!
The other interview, I'm not sure how i feel about that one, I don't think it went too good.

Still not heard anything back.. playing the waiting game now 😬😬

Best of luck with the outcome! 🤞

InAPickle12345 · 21/10/2023 09:01

Ah, best of luck @BigBrothersLittleSistee 🤞keep us updated!

Moomoomo · 21/10/2023 09:23

Fingers crossed for you, the waiting is the worst bit.

FWIW the outcome of the interviews will have nothing to do with the outfit you wore. I worked in retail for years and trust me you would have been better dressed than 99% of the candidates! I worked in quite a fancy shop and we routinely had people turning up in joggers and trainers, if the joggers were black we had to consider it a win!
