Anyone else horrified at this?

Gymnastics Ireland in racism row after girl skipped in medal ceremony

Olympic champion Simone Biles condemned the 'heartbreaking' incident and said she had sent a video of support to the young girl after her parents reached out to her.

I'd need more than a Daily Mail story/twitter comments before I believed this.

google will help you @IvorTheEngineDriver

I was appalled. I watched the video earlier today. What on earth was the thinking behind this? Give the girl her medal and don't be so out and out rude and disrespectful to a child.

beachcomber70 · 24/09/2023 10:52

Good.

@IvorTheEngineDriver

WHY is your default to deny such blatant racism?

@Willmafrockfit the mediation and apology was only resolved in August 2023.

She received the medal AFTER her parents complained and after the ceremony was over.

Catleveltired · 24/09/2023 10:55

The Irish gymnastics response was pisspoor. That poor child. Gobsmacking in this day and age.

There's an actual video you can watch

beachcomber70 · 24/09/2023 10:57

The cruelty was staggering.

DinnaeFashYersel · 24/09/2023 10:57

Afterwards and not during the ceremony

gamerchick · 24/09/2023 10:57

Poor bairn, she would have felt crushed.

Willmafrockfit · 24/09/2023 10:58

extremely upsetting.

Willmafrockfit · 24/09/2023 10:59

it does say she received the medal before she left the field of play, i can't copy it.

TawnyLarue · 24/09/2023 10:59

I can’t believe people around her, such as the photographer, not speaking up for her at the time. Whether it was a genuine mistake or not.

shams05 · 24/09/2023 11:04

It's heartbreaking.
She's so excited, you can see her huge smile. the poor kid that official just left her out and walked off with one medal in her hand. It can't have been anything other than racism, it's so purposely done.

itsmylife7 · 24/09/2023 11:13

I've seen the pictures and don't want to watch the video, would be even more upsetting.

That poor little girl imagine how she felt being ignored. 😪

Womencanlift · 24/09/2023 11:20

From what I read the coach just said it was an “oversight”. I mean come on you walk completely past someone in a line up is not an oversight

By the sounds of it the punishment of the official was pretty much non existent. Yes she is not a registered coach anymore and has to enter mediation with the family but it all seems a very laid back response from Gymnastics Ireland

Jl2014 · 24/09/2023 11:21

It’s outrageous. I struggle to get my head round someone doing this. Poor girl.😔

TastyLikeARaindrop · 24/09/2023 11:24

Poor girl. She's stood right there in the line being totally ingnored! I can't make out what the commentator is saying, is she reading out the names as the medals are being given?

IMustDoMoreExercise · 24/09/2023 11:33

Makes me so sad watching that. That woman must have a heart of stone.

Fiiiish · 24/09/2023 11:37

Poor girl. How the official can say she forgot or any other shit excuse when she clearly looks directly at her on more than one occasion is beyond me! My heart goes to that poor kid.
