@peridot1
@ThunderclapCloud
@petalpower
@autumnangel

@RunningKatie
@LateSummerLobelia
@Aria999
@Mumtobabyhavoc

and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Just finished steam cleaning a stroller I had on the deck that developed mold!!! Ugh. It is now totally clean and inside. 🤦‍♀️👍
vacuumed then steamed area rug in living room and couch cushions with milk and peanut putter stains. 👍
ran steamer over floors. Low temp and done quickly. 👍
😁😁😁

Thunderinglightly · 23/10/2023 07:46

Morning! Big day today with health reset @Peridot1 ? Best wishes for that 😊 I hope you had a lovely evening with your friends. The book is 'An Eye For An Eye' by MJ Arlidge. It's gripping but gory - some very violent deaths!

Oh little pale cheeks @RunningKatie 😔 It sounds like you're on it though. It sounds like you're away from home so I hope the break is doing you all good. Relieved to hear that you missed the flooding. I think @autumnangel and @SpiritOfEdna may have been in storm hit areas so hoping everyone is ok.

That is very impressive! Pleased to hear that you had more rest and felt able to do things. Steam cleaners sound rather amazing. Hoping you have another decent sleep tonight. I'd thought you meant it was Havoc getting you up but I'm guessing pregnancy related insomnia.

Today i have plans to go into the loft and get a few bits down that can get used elsewhere or be got rid of. I may also have a rummage in the larder and see what needs using soon.
I think I'll go for a bike ride too as the wind has dropped. This not working malarkey is still feeling quite decadent!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 23/10/2023 09:17

Morning all! dashing in and out so just checking in. Some great achievements on the thread!

Not much to report here but I am heavily focused on life admin right now. Meeting with our accountant in 30 mins for DH's self assessment stuff. Plus have batch cooked a very great many freezer meals for when I am away. And DH has shampooed a turkish runner rug he bought at a deceased estate auction. We thought it was a very dark maroon brown and it turns out after being shampooed it is a bright reddish/orange.

Hope everyone has a great day!

SingleThreadJoiner · 23/10/2023 09:43

Good morning, happy Monday! @petalpower I am so glad you are all ok - I am in East Anglia too but in a part that got much less damage and chaos so I was shocked to see how bad it was elsewhere.

As usual, impressive weekends for all around here, and glad you eventually got to see the rest of the family! We had lots of people over on Friday night so that spurred me to do a good tidy of the entrance hallway and get rid of a few things, it felt good! Other main achievement of the weekend was to order the new dishwasher which apparently will be delivered on Friday all fingers crossed

It's half term here and I am hosting a playdate, there is another 4yr old girl at ours at the moment and staying all morning including lunchtime...wish me luck 😵I don't see much happening today...

I started playing connections recently, I love it! But I agree that it leans a bit US at times.

Hope everyone is feeling less breathless than me, good luck @Aria999 with the other project too, see you all soon!!

Thunderinglightly · 23/10/2023 12:47

Hello again! You go soon don't you @OrangePumpkinLobelia ? Is it just you going? How is your back feeling?
I can just imagine the colour of the water in the carpet cleaner 😂 Are you still happy with it now it's no longer dark?
👋 @SingleThreadJoiner for some reason i had decided that you're a Londoner hence not tagging you about the floods. Sorry! Glad you're in an area that escaped the worst! Hope the playdate goes well. Other people's small children do feel like such a responsibility don't they?

Well i had a change of plan and spent some of the morning on horseback! I have been contemplating starting again, and bought myself a new hat, but that was as far as I'd got. My friend got wind of this and invited me to ride one of hers. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I can feel my legs already! So I'm sitting in a heap at home now, and have yet to make myself useful about the place!

SpiritOfEdna · 23/10/2023 13:06

morning - we seem to have escaped the brunt of the storm - one really bad day of non stop sheet rain and we are back to crisp clear days. Also shocked to see how bad it was elsewhere.
Today

  • had an art session yesterday with The GNiece so need to put all the stuff away
  • think Ive finally hung up all the artwork that is going up this morning
  • need to hire a carpet cleaner in the next week to do beds/rugs/sofa so will look at diaries today
  • off to b&q tonight to see if I can get a small piece of plasterboard for under the stairs and a small mouse type sander.
  • 5k on exercise bike, 30 mins with weighted hulahoop, training tomorrow and kit is already sorted.
That's all for today, have a good day all, SoE

Thunder, yes, waking every 2-3 hors at night. Had a decent night last night, though! Woke at 4 after 4 hours sleep; then again at 7. Fell back asleep both times and finally got up at 9:15!!!! 😁😁😁
Steamer is good. It's a steam mop with various attachments and you can hold it by hand w/o the pipe attachment.

impressive list SoE!
running late to get across town, so will check back later. 😊

petalpower · 23/10/2023 21:52

Yes the flooding seemed very localised @SingleThreadJoiner but was just dreadful near us.
Now back home after our family trip. Took much longer than expected to get home as DH had to travel to buy some roof tiles (don’t ask …) for our building project before we left and his car also seems to have a slow puncture so we had to stop three times to pump the tyre up. I’d hoped to be back by lunchtime but we didn’t get back until after 4. My list for tomorrow looks immense. Seems to have turned very cold and DH is reluctant to put the heating on. He likes to hold out until November if possible. Brrrr …..

Peridot1 · 24/10/2023 08:08

Aargh - just lost a long post!

@petalpower - glad you got home ok. DH is more likely to put the heating on here than me but he does go around in shirts and T-shirts still!

@SpiritOfEdna - impressive list. We have lots of pictures to put up here. Might go through some today.

@Thunderinglightly - hope you are not too achy after your ride yesterday. Sounds lovely.

I didn’t achieve much yesterday as wasn’t feeling great. Gave up my food reset thing mid-afternoon. Figured not a great time to attempt it while feeling under the weather anyway.

Had a phone call from MIL’s niece to say MIL has had another fall and is basically being a bit of a nightmare. There are some personality changes going on at times and she is incredibly stubborn and a control freak anyway. Not entirely sure what if anything can be done. And things always seem to happen just as I’m going away.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 24/10/2023 08:31

Morning all,

So sorry to hear about your MIL @Peridot1 . It's so hard to try and juggle family and extended family and getting older. I am thinking of you and also @petalpower and @Thunderinglightly as well.

@SpiritOfEdna your lists always leave me breathless! The art on your walls sound lovely!

@SingleThreadJoiner glad you were not washed away!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I am also in awe of your lists when you are pregnant!

@Thunderinglightly it sounds wonderful to go riding. I am most envious. 🐎
Thanks, my back is feeling alot better. I have failed to get any appointments before my trip which is now a week away, but I am treating it carefully and certainly feel a very great deal better. I am also saving up my painkillers for the flight. yes- just going on my own this time. It's mostly an obligation visit and there will be alot of time spent sitting on sofas and catching up. It would send pretty much everyone else in my family loopy (at least it did last time!) so I am just going and need to help other family sort out a few things (care of extended elderly family members!). Although it will be good as well to go to the wedding that was the original impetus for the trip. I am anxious about the trip actually. Being away from home and DH and the Dcs for so long (3 weeks) and I am not the best at plane travel at the best of times!

I DO like the newly washed colour of the rug! Much prefer it... it was so dark... possibly 100 years of dirt was in that rug! It's quite a pleasing orangey colour now. And it has a great deal more pattern than we realised! It was VERY dirty. But not bad for a tenner at an auction! It's going to go in our hallway - we have wooden floors. I'll take a photo - it's a bit crumpled as is drying and I guess I will vacuum it flat once in situ. Photo is a bit blurry!

Hope everyone has a lovely lovely day. Smile

Daily Project Round 4
SpiritOfEdna · 24/10/2023 10:36

@Thunderinglightly so so so envious of the horse ride - I used to ride regularly at a local country park, but covid and Liverpool City Council (boo hiss) combined did for them; all attempts to find somewhere else and re-start have been thwarted. It's where SpiritDoggo gets walked so every day I see the empty fields where the horses used to be and have a little pang.
@OrangePumpkinLobelia happy travels, and I absolutely love that rug.
@SingleThreadJoiner - hope you survived the playdate 😄@Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you can catch a snooze to catch up on your sleep @Peridot1 - that's a nightmare re MIL
@RunningKatie ngKate – am hoping half term is proving restorative for your household
@petalpower - when the sibling was away I left the heating on all night I was very rebellious
@ARIA999 – hope the little one is feeling better, fingers crossed about the other big project job
@autumnangel – hope you are OK. Fingers crossed I haven't missed anyone.

I have trained this morning and am aching a bit already. The rest of the day looks like:

  • walk SpiritDoggo
  • get my 10K steps in and a hula hoop session, make sure I drink my water and log food on MFP
  • research smart watches - if I'm doing all this exercise I want to record it ALL 😄They are very spendy though.
That will be all for today, have a good day all, SoE

Hope everyone has a good day! A bit of a full on one here, all first world stuff though.

  • paid for FIL blue badge
  • bought 90th birthday present for dear friend
  • posted eBay parcel
  • filled up with diesel
  • went to aqua fit class
  • cleaned the mud from the cartlodge floor after the flood
  • cleaned the bathroom
  • changed three double beds
  • did loads of washing - the forecast was a good drying day but it didn’t materialise and I now have lots of washing on airers as I don’t have a tumble dryer and the heating still isn’t on
  • planned food for the weekend - we have two sets of friends staying (one with a dog and daughter too) and a 90th party to attend plus SIL staying on Thursday night. DD also has a friend staying on Saturday.
  • cleared builder’s rubbish and bagged it to put in the bin covering myself in filthy water in the process
I’m sure there were other things that I did as I’ve done over 19,000 steps not including the aqua fit class! DH has finished knocking down a wall as part of our building project so there are piles of rubble everywhere in the dining room, the same room that we are entertaining in at the weekend. He assures me that it will be clean and clear by then. Watch this space …
Thunderinglightly · 25/10/2023 08:32

Hello! Lovely to read all your goings on 😊 It's all go!
Just a quick post as have hands full here. Similar situation as @Peridot1 with my mother. Also fallen, also very stubborn. I'm struggling. Constantly on eggshells as she can't manage without help, but won't admit it. Thankfully allows carers twice a day, but it's not enough. She keeps threatening to cancel them but I think deep down she knows she needs them.
And breathe....

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 25/10/2023 09:46

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well. @petalpower your weekend filled with guests and parties made me blanche just at the thought!

Hope your mum is okay @Thunderinglightly . I am sure she knows she needs the carers- just verbalising her wish to hang onto some independence. But that will not help your stress levels!

I am intrigued by hula hooping @SpiritOfEdna ! That sounds like loads of fun!

Lots of rain here. Lots and lots. Cue leaking ceiling. Sad. DH has gone into the loft and thinks it is just a sealing against the chimney that has come unstuck which he can deal with but he needs everything to dry out first. Other than that not much going on- yet more life admin. And the window cleaners are meant to come but I am not sure they will given the weather!

Hope everyone has a great day.

Peridot1 · 25/10/2023 10:29

It’s tricky isn’t it @Thunderinglightly? And MIL is in the north west and we are south east. And she is DH’s step mother and he doesn’t really have any bond with her as such. Her niece is bearing the brunt of it. I feel really guilty but there isn’t a lot we can do. She argues black is white. Her dishwasher has been broken for at least three months and she keeps saying someone is coming to fix it and won’t let anyone book anyone else. But nobody comes. But she doesn’t wash any dishes. Her friend comes once a week and washes them. And another niece sometimes. I’m away next week and we have DS coming back tonight for the weekend so I can’t go up for a while but I think I’ll have to go up week after next. She has been addicted to morphine it seems and the bloody GP is supposed to be helping her come off it but keeps prescribing it and whenever she takes it she ends up falling as it makes her dizzy. I think that’s what’s happening anyway.

Anyway! Not much I can do at the moment.

I’m just back from PT session at the gym. Arms feeling a bit shaky!

Today’s list:

  • pre cleaners tidy round
  • strip a bed
  • flu jab
  • hair appointment
  • get DS’s room ready
  • washing

Sympathies for leaks and wet laundry and no heating! And builder’s rubble and guests. Not a great mix!

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 25/10/2023 10:56

Morning. I am in full swing with my exercise; but mygod it is hard to lose a pound! Got a very busy day workwise so am not sure how I will get my steps in - no chance to walk SpiritDoggo today. Luckily sibling not working so will do it today. So most of today's house jobs are all 5 mins 'grab and do' jobs

  • fit in 5k on exercise bike and 30 mins on hulahoop, log everything on MFP
  • payday today so have been updating finance admin spreadsheets. Have persuaded myself not to buy a replacement for my old garmin sports watch - maybe next month 😄
  • clear up the weeds from the borders in the yard
  • remove oven door for cleaning
  • wipe down front of fridge of sticky finger prints
That's all for today, have a good day all, SoE

Goodness, I didn't even make it onto MN yesterday! I missed so much - though I did survive the playdate! Yesterday was all go as I am racing against two work deadlines, but also had to drop off D at holiday playscheme (not a 10 minute walk like school, but a 15 minute drive instead) and get the guest room ready for the in-laws (arrived yesterday, staying for a week). Fetch D from playscheme (which is a shorter day than school) and entertain her and get dinner sorted. Luckily? my gym class was cancelled, gave me a spare hour in the day, though I think I would have rather enjoyed it! This morning at least we split the tasks, H dropped her off, I had to go to the shops to get things for dinner - which my FIL has kindly offered to make. Early stop to the day again to pick D up, hoping she will do some playing with the grandparents when we get home so I can get a bit more work done.

Very sorry to read about all the upheaval with elderly parents and PILs - so difficult, especially when there are distances involved. Sending warm thoughts.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia I love the rug! Must have felt so sastifying to see it all be revealed!

@petalpower , holding my breath on the disappearance of the rubble in time...gah!

Ok, break over, time for a 12 o'clock meeting - hopefully won't be too long or I'll be wanting my lunch!

petalpower · 25/10/2023 20:38

Huge sympathies to @Thunderinglightly and @Peridot1 re the elderly relative issues. It’s all just so hard isn’t it. Lots of us seem to be in the same boat.
Today I’ve:

  • managed to dry the piles of damp washing
  • convinced DH that it’s time to put the heating on!
  • baked cakes for a memorial event I’m going to tomorrow - too outing to explain more but it was an extremely sad loss of someone lost far too early
  • finalised menu plans for upcoming visitors, added to Sainsbury’s online order and picked up more pressing items from local shops
  • picked up dog medication from the vets
  • posted two more eBay parcels (having a bit of a run of sales at the moment)
  • visited auntie at care home and took part in a sing a long
  • managed not to strangle DH when he switched off the electricity without notice when I was about to bake cakes and start food prep (he was working on electrics for the building project but it was very unfortunate timing)
SpiritOfEdna · 26/10/2023 11:27

Morning,

  • just snapped off the plastic strip at the bottom of the oven door, so ordered a replacement part. Serves me right for trying to do a deep clean of the oven
  • re-organised all my art materials so now I have spare storage for sewing materials.
  • keep thinking it's Friday today and looking forward to the end of the day....
  • booked a karoake hut for in between xmas and new year for visiting family
  • mouse sander arrived so will go and try on the various bits of furniture being restored
  • make some soup for tea today
  • walk SpiritDoggo
That's all for today, have a good day all, SoE

SingleThreadJoiner · 26/10/2023 14:00

😂😂😂😂@OrangePumpkinLobelia that made me laugh out loud!!!! thank you, I needed it! Not much to report here - H moved some bits of kitchen out of the way this morning to make it easier for dishwasher installers who are coming tomorrow morning 🎉Put some laundry on. Discovered unexpected drips from skylight window onto floor - very very tall ceiling so hard to investigate properly, but have asked the neighbours if they have similar problems (we all have the same house, built at the same time in a block of 4). Hoping it's just condensation. Owning a home is SUCH a privilege and a blessing and something absolutely to be grateful for - but sometimes it is a real headache too...

Peridot1 · 26/10/2023 14:28

@OrangePumpkinLobelia - that would be me too! 😄

@SpiritOfEdna - hope it’s an easy fix.

Glad you got the heating on @petalpower.

I had a busy but enjoyable day yesterday. Good workout with PT. Tidied house etc. Then went for flu jab and was offered covid as well which I accepted. Then went and spent two hours at the hairdresser. With tea and biscuits and my kindle. Was lovely!

DS arrived home last night. With his washing of course. He opened a package that had arrived for him a couple of weeks ago. It was a framed certificate saying he got the top scoring mark for his dissertation. He had no idea and was chuffed. If he’d actually gone to his graduation he might have known sooner! Very proud of him.

I haven’t done too much this morning. Helped DH build a cheap shed thingie to store some garden tools. Very frustrating and freezing! He did actually read the instructions. He did start at Step 1. But missed that there was a Step 0 and we had to take it all apart and re do a lot. Grrr.

Planning a lazy afternoon thawing out and reading.

Thunderinglightly · 26/10/2023 14:42

Hello everyone! Stress levels are down considerably today. Nothing has changed except handling of said stress, and a big chat with a trusted friend who understands the parent situation.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia you made me laugh!

@SpiritOfEdna DH is the grown up around here but I am delighted to report that reading of your skills inspired me to behave like a grown up and I have just spent less than half an hour ordering some animal medication online, booking an appointment online and confirming a dentist appointment over the phone. I have been putting these tasks off for nearly a month. Thank you for being our thread adult (suspect you're younger than most of us too!)

RunningKatie · 26/10/2023 15:16

Hello all, half term holiday means I'm not doing much - I did pack some sewing and am feeling a bit guilty I've not touched it.
Today I've purchased a wedding anniversary and a birthday card.
I also got distracted by the December Good Housekeeping magazine so now I am on a sofa with a tea and that.
Dh and Ds have gone to climb a big hill but are due back soon so I'll have to look lively then, but for 10 mins I'm sitting down.
