What the heck is this??!!

I just had a rummage in my freezer looking for inspiration for tonight's dinner and found a plastic container containing leftovers of some sort. I always write on the lid what things are, and it clearly says:

CEDRIC GROSS

What in the wide world can it be? Do I have to thaw it so I can find out? It looks like it may be something with rice, but what? 😂

I stick by the gross being a comment on how nice it was. It’s the sort of thing I’d write on leftovers so I don’t take it out on a bad day where horrible dinner will tip me over the edge

DH labels up leftovers obsessively religiously so we had a container of chili the other day which turned out to be tomato sauce.
That's not too bad, you think, but this was a very fine home-made tomato sauce for pasta, made from our own home grown tomatoes which were absolutely delectable this year, sweet, sharp and juicy.
It was awful, much too sweet for chili and worse, DH thought there weren't enough beans in it (because duh - there weren't any) so added some, along with chili spices. Because it was too bland, of course...

Also that dish other op asked about think one is sausage casserole with veg and the other looks like old grey porridge or wallpaper paste

Am I alone in feeling worried that OP hasn't reported back? Maybe they've eaten whatever is was and are now in need of medical help. Hopefully MNHQ have some way of alerting the emergency services, I keep remembering the story about the Australian woman who's been arresting for poisoning her husband's relatives.

Well now. DH has consumed it and.... <drum roll for the sake of it>...... (and he needs a medal)......

We are still no further forward. I asked him what it tasted of and he said it was vaguely tomatoey, and a bit sweet and sour, but that was as far as we got. No discernible lumps of chicken or anything else identifiable at all, apart from the rice that was with it, and the mange tout that he added to liven it up.

Oh what a raging anticlimax. I have a suspicion it must have been the leftovers out of a Chinese takeaway that I decided to freeze in a random moment of madness. It wasn't very nice apparently, but at least he'll never have to eat it again. 😂

Who or what Cedric Gross is will remain a mystery for all eternity. Sorry folks!

We recently had beef curry, rice and naan bread. Only it wasn't beef curry it was liver and gravy!

I’m famous for not labelling stuff in the freezer. I excelled myself the other week when I got out what I thought was chicken curry and it turned out to be stewed rhubarb. In my defence, they were a similar colour!

What took you so long to pluck up the courage to defrost it today after keeping us hanging for months op?

I forgot all about it until I was rummaging in the freezer at lunchtime today. Should have left it there really. 😝

The trick I figured out was this: keep a thin roll of masking tape/painter's tape in a kitchen drawer, together with a felt tip. You write on the tape, then loop it round the lunchbox so it won't come off accidentally, but comes off easily to wash the container.

I defrosted short crust pastry last Christmas to make mince pies, was really difficult to roll out. Turns out it was fresh pasta dough..

Telling my friend about this & she said she had defrosted stuffing and some gravy - which turned out to be falafels and some toffee sauce.

Well done to your DP for taking one for the team.
