What the heck is this??!!

I just had a rummage in my freezer looking for inspiration for tonight's dinner and found a plastic container containing leftovers of some sort. I always write on the lid what things are, and it clearly says:

CEDRIC GROSS

What in the wide world can it be? Do I have to thaw it so I can find out? It looks like it may be something with rice, but what? 😂

The trick I figured out was this: keep a thin roll of masking tape/painter's tape in a kitchen drawer, together with a felt tip. You write on the tape, then loop it round the lunchbox so it won't come off accidentally, but comes off easily to wash the container.

I was going to post exactly the same thing, I had a roll of frog tape in my kitchen draw of doom ( you all have one of them right ??? ) and used that to label frozen food.
I have gone one step further and now use different colours/ widths so I can tell at a very quick glance the general type of food .
Ie very wide green = compete meal / work lunch
Narrow green = just main part of meal needs rice , pasta , spuds adding
White = raw meat

Maybe the German footballer inexplicably lives in your neighbourhood and you accidentally got his order from the Chinese takeaway

This is the only possible explanation. When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the answer.

That's elementary my dear @minipie 😁

I can't believe you would turn a German footballer into chilli and dump him in your freezer. YABU.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

OP

THis could be the start of a horror story, in fact a series of them, all starting with a mystery frozen item.

For some reason I'm getting a vibe of the film, "the hide".

I’m always suspicious of people who have a massive freezer in the garage and frequently relay their patio.

You might like the film 'The Legend of Barney Thompson'.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 11/11/2023 08:48

@BunnyBunnyJabberJabber I recently started watching Hannibal with my DP. Didn’t realise he was still at large or had stopped to making frozen ready meals :(

MonumentalLentil · 11/11/2023 08:52

If I am freezing something that doesn't need to be in a box I use freezer bags. I also (mostly) write on the little space provided the date and contents. As with the banana incident above, I don't always remember to do this, but when I do it is some kind of abbreviation so odd combinations still happen.

I find I can fit more stuff in the freezer if it is in bags, it moulds itself to the space. Getting it back out is sometimes interesting though.

This cost of living crisis is hitting some people hard I mean what’s a little canabalism between friends & family I’ve heard it tastes like chicken, once you defrost it get the chicken bisto ready 😂😂😂

You've elevated it to an art form.

DH is clearly terrified of what I might produce out of the freezer next, and has decided that he's going to be cooking tonight. Fortunately for me, he has been shopping.

I can now see @fiddlesticksandotherwords saving the most obscure bits of food , putting them in random containers , "forgetting" to label them and freezing them just so she doesn't have to cook.
😂

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 11/11/2023 23:18

He is out tomorrow, and he's decided he won't be needing dinner on his return.
I can't think why not.😂

@kennycat unfortunately DH was unable to come up with a positive ID...

Oh no. Have they not tried eating it? Hopefully that would solve the problem…

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 12/11/2023 11:24

@kennycat he did eat it! Couldn’t pin down what it was but IIRC gave the verdict that it ‘wasn’t very nice’.

kennycat · 12/11/2023 11:51

That’s hilarious that even eating it didn’t bring a definitive conclusion 😂

Human flesh apparently tastes like pork (hence the name "Long Pig" which it has in some cannibal societies).

I think you'll find that it's cat that takes like chicken . . . allegedly . . . 😬

I'm commenting before I read the whole thread to place my bet for Red Rice Risotto.

LillyOfTheValley2020 · 19/11/2023 08:01

Definitely that. Ask all your family members if they had a friend with a dead pet asking them to make space in the freezer until the rain stops and appropriate burial can be arranged 😬. (As I assume if it was your own pet you would have noticed by now)
