What the heck is this??!!

I just had a rummage in my freezer looking for inspiration for tonight's dinner and found a plastic container containing leftovers of some sort. I always write on the lid what things are, and it clearly says:

CEDRIC GROSS

What in the wide world can it be? Do I have to thaw it so I can find out? It looks like it may be something with rice, but what? 😂

I haven't the foggiest what you've found in your freezer - but this thread is making me howl with laughter ( which isn't going down well with 'him' because we're in the midst of verrry serious and importanty stuff - like should we stay together.
And I'm laughing!! Oh dear!!

logintoshareyourviews · 10/11/2023 18:16

I'm now thinking of naming all the boxes in my freezer things like Dennis and Alan.

Redrosesandsunsets · 10/11/2023 18:19

I agree with a previous poster is was misspelt curry and rice or c and rice or c & rice - just badly written

Meeting · 10/11/2023 18:24

Have you ever made and froze a curry base? It's often called the base gravy so I'm wondering if you could have labelled it 'CURRY GRAVY', slightly similar. And would explain the tomato-ey flavour.

ThistleTits · 10/11/2023 18:30

@Spinet I've got two side by side in the freezer, one cheese sauce, one mash. Of course I didn't label because I'd remember. I can barely remember my bloody name.

Guesswho88 · 10/11/2023 19:02

Bit of a long shot but could it be someone's name? 😂You picked up someone's lunch by mistake/were asked to save it for them?

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/11/2023 19:14

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 10/11/2023 14:22

Oh please do - be my guest.

And that footballer with the same name... well lets just say he won't be troubling you. 😂

<taps side of nose>

Say no more . . . Grin

OP - when I write my Great Booker-Prize-Winning Novel please may I name one of my characters Cedric Gross? I have a feeling it could mean the difference between being merely shortlisted and actually getting the prize.

He could be the arch-nemesis of the Rev'd Dorien Pygge, Curate Extraodinaire, and his crustacean sidekick, Barry the Prawn .

I'll mention you in my gracious acceptance speech.

Cedric Gross does sound rather like Augustus Gloop’s Austrian cousin. Or the main character in the German equivalent of Tricolore.

I learned the hard way to make sure, not only to label freezer ingredients clearly, but to double wrap some of them, after putting crumble topping in the same drawer as the chopped garlic. That was, erm, interesting.

I deeply sympathise with a PP as I also have a chilli freak DH. I can handle most three star curry house dishes but my DH’s palate and digestion are seemingly made from asbestos. One tip: milk and yogurt work better than water for cooling you down, which is why lassi was invented.

kennycat · 10/11/2023 19:26

Have you found out yet??
im desperate to know what it is so I can label my own freezer in a similarly crackers fashion

Walkaround · 10/11/2023 19:35

Was it that takeaway that gave you all severe food poisoning last year, which you froze so as to preserve while you were all ill and then send away for official testing at such time as you should all recover from the stomach purging consequences? I hope you didn’t go feeding it to your dh or anything… 🤢😂

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 10/11/2023 19:52

You will all be overjoyed to know that yesterday's repast has not had a detrimental effect on my beloved.

In fact we had a different freezer surprise meal this evening. Oh yes indeedy. I had another rummage. 😎

Is it definitely your handwriting OP?

In my flat-share days we had "great fun" [eyeroll] putting inventive labels on each other's food. Usually anagrams but occasionally various body parts of exes.

This really made me laugh 😅

shakeyground · 10/11/2023 19:59

I reckon C&RICE GROSS - Gross as in it was a Lloyd Grossman jar of curry sauce that you used.

We once had lovely French onion soup which turned out to be gravy! Yum 😋🤣

NoDought · 10/11/2023 21:46

The best mumsnet response I have ever read.

MonumentalLentil · 10/11/2023 21:58

I freeze gravy in freezer bags to add to the slow cooker and leave it out to thaw/partially thaw before adding it to the dinner. Beef and banana casserole anyone?

SingleDadReally · 10/11/2023 22:21

I’m always suspicious of people who have a massive freezer in the garage and frequently relay their patio.

SeaToSki · 10/11/2023 22:25

I am guessing Chick & rice with the & rice bit written &rice so it looked a bit Gross and it all got a bit smeared and scrumpled 🤣. At least something was written on it, we had a mystery freezer meal for dinner last night that was unlabelled (and turned into shredded beef with kidney beans and carrots cooked in a tomato sauce of some sort)

Oh my word @shakeyground I think you've cracked it!

DH did buy a random jar of Lloyd Grossman sauce of some sort a while ago and I made something or other with it. I don't buy the stuff, I think he's a twit. LG that is, not DH.

Well, we don’t re-lay our patio but we do have a double plot at our local allotments…

Let me guess. Your freezer contains enough runner beans to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool, doesn't it?

That sort of thing. 🤣 Beans of varying descriptions (including borlotti and broad), chopped leeks, a drawer full of frozen soft fruit, and more usefully, we have several jars of skinned tomatoes, batch cooked soups, ratatouille (aubergine doesn’t freeze well raw) - oh, and there’s never any room in either fridge in the summer among the peppers and cabbages and courgettes. It’s potatoes and squashes overwhelming us this month. I just hope they keep OK in the garage.

😂😂😂 nothing like a rummage!

BigDaddio · 11/11/2023 02:25

OP your Freezer sounds like ours....Almost everything is labelled but some aren't because it is obvious what it is...until they get permafrosted and then of course its not obvious...or the label falls off.
