Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

Completely speculative, but a while ago there was a thread here of people who had ‘left’ their lives and one poster had me convinced it was Ruth Wilson. I would never have the balls to directly ask because she was very clear that she would never ever reveal her identity to anyone in real life, let alone on mn. But I read all her replies carefully …

I read that thread too, and I thought the exact same thing.

The disappearance of Georgina Gharsallah. This is very close to home and I remember the day she went missing. There's CCTV of her walking down the high street in Worthing and then she's never caught on camera again - vanished. She had a child back home and her mum has tried to appeal for witnesses and search for her ever since.
Speculation is she's buried underneath Teville Gate (which was under construction at the time).

The first name on this list, Ames Glover, is the one that has been on my mind all today, reading through these. Just a few months older than my son, and just a few miles from where we lived at the time. His parents were separated, his Dad had Ames (5 months old, in a baby seat in the car) - went to a cash point, then picked up a takeaway, and says the baby was taken from the seat of his car.

33 Years gone - what happened to Ames?

Cops told The Voice their records only go back 7 years, despite Madeleine McCann being missing for 16 years.

They have the worst record in the UK for miscarriages of justice. Off the top off my head, the Cardiff 3, the Darvell brothers, the Cardiff 5...and while we're on the subject of the Cardiff 5 the 8 police officers charged with fabricating evidence, their trial of which then collapsed due to important documents being lost which then magically reappeared at Police HQ! But couldn't be used for another trial as they'd already been acquitted.

I knew some of that but not all, thank you for answering.

I hear of terribly racist incidents at the hands of SW Police, I live in a very diverse area of South Wales.

I wasn’t shocked by what you said, because of the above but I was interested. There is so much focus on the Met Police in the media, it feels as though other forces can do as they please with impunity.

That's awful. In my head I just can't see under 16s thinking about it but I did live a very sheltered life without being too innocent. It would never have occurred to me and my friends (I don't think) so young.

As a parent the world is scary.

I don't recall many from my school years but my younger sisters who were in high school 2010/2015 and one the last 2 years have unfortunately experienced this way too many times each.

Georgina Gharsallah is one very close to home for me. 30 year old mum of 2 just disappeared into thin air. Was seen earlier that day arguing with men. No one has ever come forward and the Sussex police messed up the investigation by not looking into it quick enough.

So strange... I just posted about this! It's unheard of too, not many people know about it

NotlikeVera · 03/09/2023 22:48

I think it’s important to recognise that when we see ‘unsolved murder cases’ it isn’t always as it seems. Often the police will have the knowledge but can’t get the smoking gun to prove it. Without this CPS won’t take it further and so the murderer gets away with it.

Does anyone remember the Springfield 3 case? A Mum, Daughter and her Daughter's friend (who was sleeping over) all vanished from the house. This happened over 30 years ago and no trace has ever been found of them?

There was one suicide in my school year. She was 13. I think of her often, over 20 years on.

RustedfromtheRain · 03/09/2023 22:59

The Angela Hammond case scares me.

Alan Addis

Trevaline Evans

And so many others really sad cases I wish there was a resolution for, like Mark Garvey.

I still can’t understand how three people just vanished off the face of the earth.

3 cases which haunt me, from when I lived in East Anglia, namely Corrie Mckeague, Natalie Pearman and Johanna Young who was murdered at Christmas 1992. I was living in the same town as her at the time
Also:
Katrice Lee
Madeleine McCann
Suzy Lamplugh
Claudia Lawrence
Genette Tate, I was older than she was, but the pictures of her in the papers reminded me of my best friend when we were her age.

I've just read the bit about how they scanned under the hospital car park which was under construction at the time they disappeared and found what could be three grave sites but won't dig because it's too expensive!

So many cases where evidence is just ignored.

toadasoda · 03/09/2023 23:22

Trevor Deeley. 22 yr old disappeared without a trace in Dublin walking home. I was same age out the same night, there was torrential rain and taxis were on strike. He worked in a bank and popped in to collect an umbrella for the walk home. He set off home and vanished into thin air. Don't know anyone who knew him but I often think of him and wonder what happened.

Waffle78 · 03/09/2023 23:25

When I first started secondary school we were warned about a drama and English teacher known as a perve. The older girls told first years to wear our knickershorts. We had one drama lesson with him but then he disappeared. We did ask where he had gone but staff wouldn't tell us. This was 1991 so if he was charged with anything it won't be online.

The murder of Dawn Shields. She was only 19, was prostituted and strangled to death.
I know who her murderer is, quite a few people do/ did. People were too scared at the time to say anything so sadly Dawn will probably never get justice now.

If you haven't been to the police with whatever information you can give, is there a reason why?

I don't know how anyone thinks Corrie McKeague is a mystery. He had a known problem with drinking himself to oblivion, had climbed into large bins to sleep before and was filmed staggering towards an area of large bins on an industrial estate around 3.30am the night he disappeared. The CCTV showed he never left. His phone was tracked to the same area. The bins were collected early the next morning and one - which was carrying very little- collected a weight equivalent to his bodyweight. His phone was tracked in the same direction the bin lorry took to the tip.
There is no mystery. Millions has been wasted looking for someone who has disappeared into a rubbish heap. Months and months of police time spent searching 7200 tons of landfill. He has been incinerated and now his mother- who is not rational- wants incinerated landfill searched and analysed. Time to say no.

The little French toddler Emile who went missing about 2 months ago I think.

@Allthecatsandcosyblankets that video footage of her in the lift is really disturbing isn't it? It's like someone was talking to her but there was no one there! Freaky.

She was psychotic- that's what happens. No mystery.

This one may have been mentioned as I think I heard about it on mumsnet, but this little lad was dropped off to school by his grandmother who waved to him as he walked down the corridor, but he never made it to the classroom and was never seen again…https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Kyron_Horman

No, it was his stepmother who waved him off to his class, and I believe she's the only witness to suggest he headed to class.

I am with you on this one.

He was a problem drinker with a habit of sleeping in industrial bins after a night out. The inevitable happened.

There is absolutely no mystery - it must be horrific for the family to try to accept that he died in an awful way but the money spent on what has clearly been a wild goose chase is ridiculous.

I doubt I'd be thinking rationally either if I was in her position. We need to be a bit careful with our words on these threads. Imagine if she was reading this.

I haven't RTFT but has anyone mentioned the mystery surrounding the disappearance and death of 'Peter Bergmann' in Sligo?

There are a lot of facts to the case but it's the one case that has baffled me above all others, and it's utterly tragic. It has got to be the biggest mystery I've ever read about because none of it makes any sense.

It's a long read but... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishcentral.com/culture/peter-bergmann-ireland-disappear.amp

The mystery man who went to Ireland to disappear

In June 2009, Peter Bergmann with grey hair and a leather jacket arrived in County Sligo by bus with the intention of disappearing without a single trace. ‘Peter Bergmann’ erased all proof of his existence before dying on a Sligo beach.

If you haven't been to the police with whatever information you can give, is there a reason why?

I second this. Also, are the police even aware of who the evil scum is & they just don’t have enough solid evidence to proceed with prosecution? Or is it a secret being kept within a small circle of people? Is the perpetrator even still alive? Justice absolutely needs to be done one way or another regardless of how many years may have passed, it’s always worth seeking. If not for just Dawns sake but for her son who I read was just 11 months old at the time & potential descendants she may now have. Please please please go forward anonymously and tell the police, it would be wonderful if her son at least knew what happened even if the perpetrator is now deceased. I don’t mean to pressure you, I just hope one day you might divulge what you & others know 💖 thinking of you & the weight you carry from this information must be enormous 💖
