Discontinued food you miss

Or just can't get for whatever reason.

Currently really fancying the ww chicken & wedges, it was in a nice tomato sauce but I also really miss the slimming world tomato and bean soup that came in a pouch.

I realise these are both diet foods and tomato based, maybe I should just go and make a tomato salad 😂

Oooh Birds Eye did prawns in the bag with a chili sauce in the same range. Tremendous. I still miss celery soup and Lean Cuisine duck a l'orange!

CheetosCheerios · 22/08/2023 04:27

Romany biscuits.

Safeways - I miss their breakfast yoghurt, which had seeds & dried fruit & cinnamon and probably shitloads of sugar

Sainsbury's salmon & dill tortelloni - d/c circa 2010 <bastards!>

Hula Hoop frozen chips.

I thought I was the only one to miss McDonalds root beer and cinnamon doughnuts. They don’t even do root beer in the States now 😢.

I also loved Maccy Dees cinnamon doughnuts. I also miss their ice cream sundaes. The hot fudge sauce one was delicious. Far superior to McFlurry’s.

@CheetosCheerios you can customise mcflurries on the app so next time you go to McDonald's if they have say dairy milk caramel McFlurry or something like that, order it with just caramel sauce or chocolate sauce and it's like having the old sundae again

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 19:19

Definitely Deltas, Secrets, Pyramints, Flyte bars and Dairy Milk Tasters. Also does anyone remember Toffee Yoyo biscuits? They were amazing.

Cheese & onion squares crisps 😔

I wish they sold the ready salted ones seperately! I can never find them anywhere as a single bag of crisps!

Onion Ring Loaf. Literally battered onion rings, packed in to a loaf tin and baked. Originally sold by a restaurant chain called Biguns Ribs, Marks and Sparks did it one year as part of an ‘American’ range. Have tried making it myself, but it didn’t taste the same.

marmiteandminticecream · 23/08/2023 05:44

micro noodles
quick easy and tasty

At first I thought you meant onion ring crisps, and was going to.say that sounds um, interesting, then readilised you mean battered onion rings and yeah, that does sound amazing 😆

The company who make Daim bars, Marabou, used to make a bar the same size as Daim, but about twice as thick. Can’t for the life of me remember the name, but think it may be Moment? Pink and blue metallic wrapper. Sold in 1985. It was a soft praline bar, bit like Thorntons Viennese Truffle. I used to buy one every Friday. Nobody ever remembers them. Do you?

newnamethanks · 23/08/2023 08:34

Waitrose Raspberry Frangipane tarts. They were delicious. Bring them back!

I don't, but I do remember Jamesons ruffle bars!

You can still get Jameson’s Raspberry Ruffle bars. Usually in B&M type places.

In a random adjunct to this conversation as a Brit living in NZ I miss some really random foods so it's a bit like discontinued food I miss!

Herta Frankfurters. The ones here are too 'sausagey' and have horrible hard skins. I would give anything for a packet. They can't even be brought by visiting Brits as they will be rejected at the airport because meat and wouldn't survive a 35 hours journey unrefrigerated

Chicken Supernoodles. Yes 3 minute noodles abound but none taste like these lovely mounds of MSG

All the crisps: Beef Monster Munch, Skips, Quavers, Frazzles, Twiglets, Wotsits. They are all a bit puritan about crisp flavours here. The three standard crisp flavours seem to be on offer only and an occasional fanfare over a chicken or BBQ flavour. There was a brief release of a Pawn Cocktail flavour that got me very excited but disappeared as no one bought them. A friend brought back a multipack of Skips recently. Tiny packet and they were smashed into crumbs from the trip but they were so good!

Proper stinkly French cheese. I have to spend extortionate $$ to buy proper French cheese from specialist delis as the NZ versions are insipid. Unpasteurised cheese also cannot be imported so it's shoddy versions of lovely French cheese too!

I'm not a choc person but random things pop into my head that can't be bought here as standard. Minstrels. Tunnocks tea cakes. Wispas

Catsmere · 24/08/2023 03:08

Arnott's Chocolate Royals - not the milk chocolate and (?)strawberry marshmallow ones that are still around, the original dark chocolate and plain marshmallow. They were the luxury treat of my childhood.

lollipoprainbow · 24/08/2023 03:55

I loved the chicken drum skins in a crispy coating that used to come in a bag from Iceland. Many a happy children's party in the 80's had those!

meatbaseddessert · 24/08/2023 10:39

Those chocolates that used to be in the in the pic n mix at Woolies. Tin foil corrugated cups in blue yellow and pink but the choc in them was all the same but it was bloody amazing. Delicious and melty. No idea what they were called. They rocked my world.

You are welcome 😂 (I've just eaten the last one out of my bag when your response popped up!! How spooky!)
