Jewelanemone that sounds a heavenly holiday! Hope the octopuses aren't camera shy and wave a tentacle in your direction

Several different friends who don't know each other have independently started bringing me meals. It's delightful but surprising - no one could call me underfed.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/08/2023 20:15

We did make it to the beach Helena but it was very cold. DS had an ice cream though. 😂😂

DS not 100 percent well he had a cough and a temperature.

MissConductUS · 04/08/2023 22:29

Welcome, @Jewelanemone, and thanks for sharing your holiday news. I had no idea that there was diving and octopuses in Cornwall. There is a lovely town near me that is also called Cornwall, but it is landlocked so no diving or marine creatures are available. It is in a lovely mountain setting though.

I took a day of annual leave to run various errands. We have a mailbox that locks, but it has rusted out and DH found a better quality replacement from a shop charmingly called Mr Mailbox. There was a rash of mail theft in the area about ten years ago, and we can hardly see the mailbox at the end of the driveway from the house, so it seemed like a sensible precaution. It's also large enough for small packages. The blokes from Mr Mailbox will remove the old one and install the new one for an additional fee, so that's what we've ordered.

Was struggling to sleep last night so watching the programme about rich and poor holidays swapping. Then slept a bit today to catch up so have achieved nothing today. Eaten boiled eggs with bread and butter then had meringue and cream then had a prawn salad. DD spent the day on the river. DH was wfh. Weather was really awful. Drinking coffee now. I did set up a bank account today.

On Monday DH goes to France for the day for MILs 90th. DS won't travel so rest of us stay here but am fine with that.

We may go to the flower show at Hyde Hall on Sunday morning, the only gap in the rather dismal rain we are having. May go swimming again and do some gardening though green bin already full, only collected fortnightly.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 04/08/2023 23:01

I've just been for a walk with a cat 🐈 . It's not my cat 😸. Must live locally. It followed me home. Then it returned for a visit to get a fuss from me. Today it saw me set off and joined me for a wander, nosing in all the gardens and running to catch me up each time, before coming home with me again. I don't think it's lost, it looks well cared for and wears a collar, I think it just likes a fuss. I imagine it'll go home when I go inside.

Silkierabbit · 05/08/2023 14:24

Sounds like that cat is looking for a better offer than his home Mallards and you are the chosen one. 😻

Its very rainy here all day, though better weather expected tomorrow. First two weeks of summer holidays have been almost all rain like a lot of UK. So today we are having the Sunday roast early and going swimming, sauna and jacuzzi. I am just doing the accounts though may revert to Netflix as I'm getting bored of them now and not much left. May do some hoovering at some point.

Cup of tea for now. Hope everyone is having good weekends. Tomorrow hopefully go to the flower show and maybe some gardening. Chickens need doing as well.

HildaTablet · 05/08/2023 20:24

Finally got the bathroom re-painted (well, mostly - one wall still to go but it’s tongue & groove panelling and the wood needs knotting). I meant to do this a couple of weeks ago but couldn’t get the lid off the paint tin 🤦‍♀️ and DH was away with all the tools. Then when he got back we discovered that the paint had gone weird and porridgey and we had to buy another tin.

It looks much better now though and I feel a major sense of achievement. While I was doing that, DH took down a Roman blind and re-threaded it so the cord hangs on the other side. This means we don’t have to scrabble next to a corner to open and close it.

This counts as a productive day chez Tablet.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/08/2023 20:44

Yea, Hilda! I've got painting on my list, too.
a nice accomplishment for you. 👍😃

MissConductUS · 05/08/2023 21:31

Well done, Hilda. Would the shop take back the paint that went off, or had it been opened previously? We painted about ten years ago, so We're good for a bit.

DD has gone to a beach in Connecticut with her boyfriend and won't be home for dinner. DS and I will start making Mac & Cheese shortly, then burgers on the grill.

The bridge I depend on for my commute reopened three hours later than scheduled on Friday. The bridge was ready at noon, but a multitude of politicians and state officials showed up wearing high-viz for the TV news cameras covering the reopening. They all had to make a fuss in front of the cameras.

I've had such a nice day

No plans, so cleared out some drawers, washed hair and makeup brushes, sorted emails, had a pedicure, put away all those bits and pieces... feel like I'm winning at life 😁

One like that near me - very cute

But he won't get too close to the house cos my three don't like him!

Lemonsandlemonade · 05/08/2023 21:41

Enjoy your Mac and Cheese MissC not something I make much but enjoy it when I do.

Well done Hilda.

DS had a play date. The child we met has some ALN and it was lovely to see that he has made good progress.

HildaTablet · 05/08/2023 22:13

No, the tin had never been opened, MissC, but we’d had it for a while and never got round to using it. Still a bit annoyed as it’s so ridiculously expensive - it was Farrow & Ball (a pricey heritage brand here in the UK).

Mallards, in my younger days I house-shared with someone who had 2 cats, and they always accompanied her on her trips to the corner shop. More embarrassingly, they went with her to the off-licence which she visited quite often and would sit outside on the pavement miaowing piteously, much to the amusement of passers-by.

Silkierabbit · 05/08/2023 22:28

Well done Hilda

Had the roast dinner, Floof immediately jumped next to me purring with big eyes and enjoyed some of the beef. I left more of it on top of the upstairs fridge which he was delighted to discover later.

Did accounts and got them up to date. Went swimming and went to the cafe first to have a coffee with DH and a chat then did 92 lengths, DH did 32, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi.

Just booked chicken and rabbit into the pet place for holidays and their vaccines are next week, well rabbit and cats are. Friend will keep Floof. Holiday TBD.

Silkierabbit · 06/08/2023 21:11

We went to go to flower show but DH got a bit lost so we ended up aborting that and went to see Barbie at the cinema and had some popcorn and a coke. The cinema was quite empty only about 8 people in that film including us. Prefer it that way.

IWanderedLonely · 06/08/2023 21:25

I've had a lazy day; lie-in, shower and washed my hair, conditioned with new seaweed conditioner, out for coffee and a stroll with DH, back before the rain, pottered about, put some tops on Vinted and did the ironing, made tea, visited my mum and relaxed faffed about on my phone .
Feel ready to start the week now. I think I should make lazy Sundays compulsoryGrin

halfpasteleven · 06/08/2023 21:48

We only had rain this morning (as opposed to the whole day) but I was doing my online course so didn't get out in the sunshine unless you count multiple trips to the line..
Still waiting for one full day without rain in, oh,I don't know how long anymore..

The reason for the multiple trips to the line is that we are back from a really lovely few days away on the east coast. They get much less rain over there too!

Love catching up on this thread! sometimes I leave it until I am ready to go to bed and it's such a soothing way to fall asleep.

@Silkie I'm glad the meetings are going well and I've everything crossed for your holiday.

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing Sunday..

MissConductUS · 06/08/2023 22:37

Silkie, I love going to an empty cinema. It's so much quieter when there are only a few people watching the film

DD and I dropped off her car at the dealership for its annual state inspection (MOT?), oil changes, etc. It's about 20 miles away. After we locked the car and put the key through the dropbox, she realized that the ID she needs to get into work was still in the car. So we had to drive home, get the spare key, drive back to the dealership to get the ID, then back home.

I'm really looking forward to a normal commute tomorrow now that the bridge is open.

It was nice here today but a bit hot. Some of my flowers are taller than I am. They all seem to be doing well.

If you look carefully, you'll see Dgirlcat on the cushion. She doesn't enjoy the deck as much as the ginger boy, but she liked it out there today.

MissC yes that's the MOT (ministry of transport inspection). Cute kitty.

Wander lazy Sundays are the best.

Halfpast same. Most threads on MN turn into bunfights. I like this one best.

I've mostly been reading. No sign of the cat today, perhaps he gets enough fuss off his family on Sundays.

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/08/2023 05:37

I love an empty cinema what did you think of the fine Silkie?

Round these parts there still a couple of independent 2 scream cinemas with a maximum capacity of like 150/200 in the big screen. I prefer these as they are quieter.

sounds like an MOT MissC but with an MOT you wouldn’t have an oil change that would be under something called a service. Hope it passed ok.

DS has another play date today

Silkierabbit · 07/08/2023 06:28

I enjoyed the fun parts of the Barbie movie Lemons but less the serious messaging. But its being spoken about so much wanted to see it. Very glad I waited though and got a almost empty cinema. It was nice as well as there were sets of 2 seats which we got. Second time seeing for DH, he wants to see Oppenheimer but it was on too late as he left for France at 5.30am this morning and was up from 2am.

Floof was delighted DH was up in the night and he was trilling away and he got DH to give him a 3am breakfast. DH also left things in the upstairs fridge which Floof is often on top which was super exciting and Floof tried to get in the fridge to get to the pre cooked sausages. He was not impressed when I shut the fridge before he could climb inside.

DH has gone to France for MIL's 90th birthday lunch and will be back late tonight. I've heard DS up already getting himself a drink.

Still looking at holidays - DDs requirements keep changing and I also would prefer to do something I've not done before. She has now ruled out America, no real idea why apparently theme parks are better with friends and nobody wants to see the Grand Canyon its just a big hole in the ground, though it could be back on by tomorrow.

Glad you had a lovely break Half

Cute cat MissC and glad commute is better.

Glad you had a good Sunday Iwandered

HelenaJustina · 07/08/2023 08:07

Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus this morning due to the physical exertion of the weekend! Shopped for paint and curtains, finished painting DC4’s room, picked up a click and collect order from IKEA, built some furniture, helped DH clear the garage as someone is coming to look at the vintage car in there today… DC4 didn’t even realise there was a car in there!

Need to be waiting at the tip at 9am when it opens (20 minutes drive) as we are off to a lido this morning.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2023 17:59

Iwandered, how was the new hair conditioner? Which one was it? My hair still hasn't recovered from pregnancy/post despite "good shampoo" and several cuts of many inches...
Silkie, Havoc is much like Floof re the fridge. Hence the lock I had to put on the fridge doors. I have been to Grand Canton and Vegas more times than I can count. AMA. How far is your DH travelling for one day in France? Sounds like it might be exhausting (but, obv worth it for mum) ...
Miss, so envious of your lovely deck. 😍

We had an unexpected rain last night. I love a good summer rain - especially since we are in drought and have just gone to stage 2 water restrictions ( long overdue, imo). It feels a bit more humid today, though.

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/08/2023 18:30

Helena is it an outdoor Lido? I would love to live near an outdoor Lido.

Hope your DH has a nice time at the party Silkie.

Had a lovely time at play date.

yeaterday I banged my head walking into a wing mirror of a campervan and today my head is hurting where I banged it

MissConductUS · 07/08/2023 18:55

Lemons, I tripped and fell on Friday. I was looking at the state of construction of my flooded office space and tripped over something left lying around. I skinned my knee, but other than that am fine. Sorry about your bonk to the head.

I got the best picture of mama Duck and Duckling today at lunch. Not only were they close, they were swimming towards me. I guess they're not scared of me.
