Why it was a lovely surprise party!
Although going there and back on the train alone as a 40 something year old lady made me feel very old.
I can beat you Silkie - Just checked and I have 7325 unread emails......l

mathanxiety · 18/09/2023 02:00

Silkies and sprouts I'm not far behind you with the piled up emails.

I spent the weekend sorting through clothes and filled three bags for Goodwill. I also did a cull of my candles and ended up with a manageable number. DD is having a nice time in Minneapolis. She has sent me a photo of a big statue of an ear of corn. She's due home tomorrow night. I'm fully expecting her to arrive some time on Tuesday.

It's chilly here. I've closed all the windows.

Silkierabbit · 18/09/2023 02:22

Beautiful cathedral Iwandered DS loved gazing at churches as a baby.

Christmas cake would be lovely Pumpel. I used to make them as a child with my grandmother but not since.

Well done on clearance Math

Your weather monitor would have been in overdrive here MissC Just had a spectacular storm, presumably as we had a whole week of sunny days. Floof was clinging to my slippers but also trilling.

We keep getting power cuts for 1 minute with the storm, it's a bit like a horror movie though a quite tame one. DD went to give rabbit raddish. Poor silkies.

whyyy321 · 18/09/2023 08:30

Nothing wrong with geeking out a little, @MissConductUS . I think that sounds really interesting, I've not really heard of weather stations over here but perhaps they are around and I've just not seen one!

Our new pram just got delivered, it's a lightweight travel one which should be easier to manoeuvre than our current tank. Have just run out of my vitamins so might need to go to Holland and Barratt on my lunch break. I'm using the well woman ones but they are so expensive, there must be an unbranded way to get the same vitamins.

Silkierabbit · 18/09/2023 18:34

I ordered some picture tiles and they arrived. Floof is delighted with the bubble wrap.

MissConductUS · 18/09/2023 19:08

Silkie, those tiles are lovely. Will you use them above the counters or as a backsplash behind the sink? Our cats are indifferent to bubble wrap.

Why, there are quite a few personal weather stations in the UK. The Met tracks a network of them on its Weather Observations Website.

https://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/

There are likely more that people are using and never bothered connecting to the Met's network. Mine feeds data to a similar network.

I tried ringing the weather station company to return the faulty console, but the queue times out and sends me to voicemail, so I've sent them an email with all of the details.

The tiles have felt on the back and pictures hooks so can use them like pictures. Or you can soak and use as tiles. I think we will just use a couple of them in the kitchen, likely the penguin ones and just have them on the painted wall by the sink.

Floof has never had bubble wrap before. First of all he kept putting his head in it then he decided maybe it was for lying on instead. He lay on it purring for about 30 minutes. Then he discovered it rustles and so went into pouncing cat mode and the bubble wrap is all over now.

DD has gone to gym and we are having a Thai meal.

Silkierabbit · 18/09/2023 19:22

Well the to be painted wall would be more accurate.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 18/09/2023 21:36

I love old churches Wandered.

Good luck with the Christmas cake Pumpernickel.

The weather station is fascinating MissC.

Those tiles are beautiful Silkie.

The most exciting thing to happen today was managing to get two loads of laundry dried on the line in-between the gaps in heavy rain. Am also mildly disappointed that my new cardigan doesn't suit me. I really should have tried it on in the shop. I've missed the deadline for returning it so shall keep for pyjamas instead.

MissConductUS · 19/09/2023 14:20

I have a boring PWS console update. The tech support bloke from Ambient Weather rang me back yesterday. We determined that the new console was trying to connect to another distant weather station. They have a range of over 1000 feet, so one of my neighbors must have one. He had me read a device ID number off a sticker on the weather station, and walked me through how to use the settings on the console to lock it in on my PWS. So it's now working and I have no need to send anything back.

He also helped me with a smaller issue. The PWS came with a little remote temperature and humidity sensor that connects to the console. I wanted to put it in the garage to monitor the temperature there. I have shelves in the garage and keep food out there, mostly canned and jarred things, and I'd like to be able to monitor the temp out there in the winter so that I can bring things in if they might freeze. He couldn't get it to connect either, so they're sending me a new one and I don't have to return the old one.

I case you're wondering what the console looks like, here's a picture. The PWS is solar-powered, so it measures sunlight and UV levels. That's the arch you see on the lower left. The yellow ball represents the sun's position in the sky.

sueelleker · 19/09/2023 14:38

Filthy weather here, so I've cleaned my fridge and winnowed out some clothes I don't wear.

MissConductUS · 19/09/2023 15:18

Welcome, @listsandbudgets, and thanks for sharing your housework, dinner menu and DS activities news. Your username makes you sound very organized. 😀

Sue, we had over an inch of rain yesterday, so filthy weather here, too. Today is much nicer.

I am still here !
I have had a pretty full on couple of weeks with various things .
I have and love reading all the updates .

Hope it doesn't sound too rude ...but I read them at bedtime and think ...aww that's nice...and turn my light off and go to sleep 😴!

I just don't have the energy to rely !
Sorry ! 😁

bizzey · 19/09/2023 17:04

My fridge/freezer is playing up

Fridge keeps icing up at the back.

Bought some stuff to deice and clean the little hole...
Was looking sparkling clean....
Then I accidentally blew the light bulb ,so had to wait 2 days for new bulb ...so every time I opened the door on my lovely clean fridge ...it didn't blast me with its brilliance 😂😂.

Fridge still not right.
I tried to defrost a chicken overnight....still frozen 😭.

It is now in washing up bowl in cold water and hopefully will go in the oven later for dinner tomorrow.

So no roast dinner for us tonight...

Did meatballs and spaghetti instead!

Ovens been heating up for a while so will do a quick fruit crumble to cook while waiting till I can put chicken in .

bizzey · 19/09/2023 17:05

How do you know when a chicken is fully defrosted..🤔?

Asking for a friend 😂😂!

bizzey · 19/09/2023 17:10

Mallards. ...not all work road signs end up in the river ..Ahem...

Some have been known to end up outside my front door or garden 😂😂..!!

Post lock down antics with ds who had all of his important years (of legal alcohol and clubs !) curtailed by COVID 😂😂

bizzey · 19/09/2023 18:13

Chicken is rinsed (which I never normally do !) and in the oven.

I have never done this at 6pm before ..!

It has now got to cook, cool and then be put in the fridge ......🤔.

Orrrr ...sliced ,bagged and put in freezer for a pie another day 😀!?

bizzey · 19/09/2023 18:16

I have ...
A whole chicken..
Thick slices of ham...
Ready made pastry...
Veg..

Stock cubes gravy granules, oddments of spices ,salt, pepper and stuff ...

Any ideas ?

MissConductUS · 19/09/2023 18:49

Any ideas ?

Bizzy, you have been busy. 😀

If you have eggs and some cheese, you could make quiche.

It's a lovely fall day here. I'm trying to decide when to take the rest of my annual leave. I can carry some over into January if I need to.

OMG !

I have just bought a re furbished laptop !

The lap top we bought 3 years ago has been driving me mad !

I just went onto a site I know and clicked !

I have not got a clue what all the specifications are or anything !

As long as I don't have to sit on an awkward angle holding the charger in place ...I am happy !! 🤣

So much admin is due for renewal in the next few weeks ...I just need ease of comfort and life !.

I reckon I might get £50 for this annoying laptop...so win win hopefully !!

IWanderedLonely · 19/09/2023 21:48

Bizzey, I often only have time to read and run, I don't think anyone minds.
I'd have made a chicken and ham & veg pie with those ingredients.

Silkierabbit · 19/09/2023 22:35

Welcome back Bizzey

Interesting weather station MissC

DD went to school and had an A level mock exam. I started to do a bit of painting but wasn't sure I was doing it right so abandoned that and did an hours hoovering of downstairs and stairs - there's a lot of dust from the workmen, hay from rabbit and fluff from cat. Plus just uncovered lots of empty food containers from DS in the downstairs bathroom.

Went swimming after that and did 82 lengths and sauna and steam room. Jacuzzi was always busy.

Oncology gave me an appointment initially for this Thursday but moved it to next Thursday as this Thursday am we have 3 kitchen people, 1 tiler and 1 specialist teacher coming, no-one else all week but Thursday seems to be the day everything happens. Did a bit of cleaning of downstairs bathroom then took a bath.

Have an e-mail from the painting team with a mid October start date.

HildaTablet · 19/09/2023 23:10

I too would have had a chicken and ham pie, bizzey. What did you make in the end?

Awful weather here as well; rain and blowing a gale. I had a train journey to do that should have taken just under 2 hours, but we ground to a halt and were given the dread news that a tree had fallen on the line, so we were being diverted. We arrived over 1.5 hrs late at the destination, which at least means I should be entitled to 100% of my ticket cost back.

bizzey · 19/09/2023 23:18

Ohh boy ...to give you all a laugh about my terrible cooking skills...

I took chicken out , after basting and rin foil off and thought ...
OMG I have cremated the chicken!
It was decimated !

Then I remembered...I had turned it over towards the end of cooking...so it was upside down !

The breast was underneath!

Going to divide it ..got 2 pies worth here .😇!

Masterchef here I come... NOT !!🤣🤣
