DH has just appeared carrying all the cheese, no idea why he felt the need to bring it all upstairs but it means the cheese party is starting shortly.

Popetthetreehugger · 18/08/2023 18:03

Iv got 2 of our DGC staying over for the first time 🥰(2/4) I have a traffic jam of cars the length of sitting room and an amazed how far the contents of a toy camper van can spread! DH is at tennis and is under orders to stay out till they’re asleep , as they will not go up if he’s about ! We’re meeting their mum and dad for lunch tomorrow.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/08/2023 20:54

Good luck Pope!
Silkie cheese party, yum......
Dis definitely not dull! DS has GCSE results next week.......
I called at the chip shop on the way home from work, chips and curry sauce.

MissConductUS · 18/08/2023 21:07

Welcome, @Popetthetreehugger, and thanks for sharing your grandchild and toy car news. How old are the grandkids?

Silkie, I like the idea of a cheese box. I love cheese, but it's so bloody fattening I can only have it in small bits.

The bloke came to the house yesterday and replaced the windshield on DD's car. Unfortunately, the inspection sticker was ruined and couldn't be moved to the new windshield. So I took two hours of leave and took it to the dealer, who tested the emissions again and gave me a new sticker for $37.

I luvs cheese. Off to bed, last bits of cleaning can wait until the morning!

Silkierabbit · 18/08/2023 22:00

Good luck for the results Sprouts

Yes it is quite fattening MissC I actually have quite a sweet tooth so I mainly have cheese for the chutneys and fruit that go with it. Though I did sample 5 out of the 8 so far and 2 of the rest are sheep's milk which will leave to dh who loves that sort of thing. I loved the Baron Bigood brie, not normally a soft cheese eater but it was good, the Dorset Blue was good and the cheddar was good but then there were two blues one was The Duke that were far too strong for me though again DH loves that. I want to try the St Helena and the fig balls and I absolutely loved the chutney.

Silkierabbit · 18/08/2023 22:02

DH being French has had cheese pretty much every meal and loves unusual cheeses.

I am off to a MN meetup tomorrow for afternoon tea and maybe dinner, lots of healthy eating here. Good job I did lots of swimming.

Silkierabbit · 18/08/2023 23:03

Now tried the St Helena and I liked that one, quite mild and creamy but more solid than a brie. More chutney and grapes love those. Tried the baked fig, not sure on that one, it looks good but tastes a bit different, good to try once but don't think would order again.

halfpasteleven · 18/08/2023 23:04

Happy cheese eating Silkie.

Have to say I like your DDs holiday routine...

We are currently experiencing storm Betty here- no wind just v heavy rain. It's nice to be in bed listening to it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/08/2023 23:29

Helena, I think the day(s) before a trip are stressful for pretty much everyone. It'll be fine once you're there. ☺️I pack less and take laundry soap now (if that helps you at all).
Silkie, sorry, errands took longer and traffic was backed up so just seeing your update now. I'll be there next time! Save me some goat and sheep please!!!😋
Miss, well, that's a pain. 🙁

Kelowna in our wine region is under fire evacuation. Yellowknife, up north, is burning and evacuated. It's awful.
Forecast down here is for higher temp tomorrow and wildfire smoke blowing in.

Had a mediocre lunch of burger, deep fried zucchini spears ("Zoo Sticks") and a Coke. Meh. I don't looove junk food anyway, but when I have it I want it to be great. iykwim.
Looking forward to a repeat of last night's nosh: chicken in croissant, salad with Olive Garden dressing and then lemon cake (it's a v large cupcake really, with a blob of lemon curd on top in the centre and a sort of creamy icing piped around it.). That's really my style of sort of healthy, sort of not, meal. But very satisfying.
My mum got a laissez faire opinion at oncology by alternate doctor today. I prefer proactive. But, I am a worrier...(and certified specialist of all illnesses via Google). 🤓
Now waiting for Havoc to fall asleep for nap. Poor thing is totally off schedule and is chatting and laughing and just not sleepy.
Mummy wants to clear out hall closet, clean it and begin painting though...🤷‍♀️

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 18/08/2023 23:40

Mmm cheese 🧀 🤤

In other news, why am I so fat? 👀

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2023 05:13

Hall closet almost done!!! (took about 3 hours)
Just ate my chicken croissant with salad and got the Wordle fast in 4. 🤓
Havoc slept 3:30-5pm and is now bouncing around the living room at 9:10pm. 😫
Need to take a bath and wash my hair, but the dilemma is before or after I have a lemon cake???
Mallard, don't say that about yourself. 💖

mathanxiety · 19/08/2023 07:26

DD4 went out this evening to look after a neighbour's cat and stopped along the way to chat with the parents of a friend who were out on their front porch. While they were chatting they all spotted a coyote trotting past across the front yards.

So when DD was finished with the cat I drive a block and a half to bring her home. DD3 and I didn't go out for our usual walk.

IWanderedLonely · 19/08/2023 09:22

Helena have a lovely holiday, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Silkies just read your cheese post and now I'm starvingGrin I love cheese, never yet tried one I don't like, but like Miss I try to ration myself.

sproutsandparsnips · 19/08/2023 10:31

Mum that is bad news for Yellowknife. I stopped there twice when I was a student on my way to Kugluktuk and back for a placement!
Math excuse my ignorance but are coyotes very dangerous? And wil they attack or are they timid?

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 19/08/2023 12:15

Thanks Havoc it's not too bad when I stand up but when I sit down I look like I've eaten a football whole! 😳 I've started a new diet. It's basically giving myself the permission to eat absolutely anything I want, but I have to eat vegetables first. Then I don't want vegetables by themselves so I add a little fish and rice or an egg or something. Then I decide I'm full and I don't want the cake after all. And because I didn't have only cake I don't get hungry one hour later, it's more like 4hrs because I ate properly. I have high hopes of weaning myself off my junk food habits and fingers crossed I lose some weight too.

Do coyotes eat humans Math? How big are they? In my head they're the size of a large dog but I realized I have no reason for thinking this I've just invented it in my imagination.

bizzey · 19/08/2023 12:27

Silkie we love cheese in this house as well ,though it is mainly ds1 who is the real cheeseaholic !!

A few years ago for Christmas I bought him a "scratch chart" of 50 ...or possibly 100 cheeses and you scratch off the cheese you have tried.
Bit like those scratch world maps you get and scratch off the countries you have been to .

It opened his eyes to a lot more cheese than he even knew existed !

bizzey · 19/08/2023 12:29

Havoc i thought of you the other day when the Canadian fires came on the news .

Hope it is not causing you too much difficties.....

Silkierabbit · 19/08/2023 14:18

Thanks Half hope storm isn’t too bad.

In the car atm on way down to MN SN meet-up for afternoon tea.

Just ordered cooker Stoves Red Electric. Should arrive next week or start week after.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/08/2023 17:07

Just woke up at almost 9am. Thanks, Havoc!!! 😄
Coyotes can be very dangerous. We have had a problem here with coyotes attacking people including children. They also attack small pets and are known to lure dogs away for attack/kill.

Silkie, yea for your stove!
Bizzey, I'm already sneezing from the wildfire smoke. Don't want to look outside.
Mallard, agree that a no off limits plan is best.
Sprouts, "Kugluktuk" - don't hear that every day. 😃
Ok, now going to be late for a meet-up if I don't hurry.

IWanderedLonely · 19/08/2023 17:12

I always think of the poor coyote in "Roadrunner" when people mention coyotes; how many anvils landed on him? Smile

TodaysTheShay · 19/08/2023 17:27

We must be odd in this house as none of us eat cheese apart from Pizza cheese lol obviously i know its not actually a different food group but only the cheese on pizza is acceptable here!

Silkierabbit · 19/08/2023 19:47

Hope you had a good time at meet-up Havoc

We have a pizza refusing DS here due to the cheese so opposite here.

Had the afternoon tea with 4 other Mumsnet Mums now back in hotel room and will go to dinner with the one left. It was lovely but strange to find they are real people different to what you imagined.

Lemonsandlemonade · 19/08/2023 20:27

Silkie I would imagine it would be odd but glad you enjoyed it.

We have had a beach and pool day here today.

i have not been well past few days with odd mix of symptoms. Made holiday hard work. Back ache stomach pain right at top of tummy and weak tired legs. Haven’t eaten much at all as worse after food but did enjoy a cake today.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 26: Calmly through the day
halfpasteleven · 19/08/2023 22:10

Silkie I'd imagine it must be a very strange yet lovely thing to do to meet up with MNers you've only previously conversed with on here and see them face to face. Brave of you too, if that makes sense. Hope you enjoy dinner.

In dull news, I've cleaned out every single press/shelf/wardrobe in this house since the beginning of July..
there's just DPs drawer of doom left which is full of screws, bulbs and other miscellaneous tool type things that I do not know if that should be kept or not so I'll leave it to him to tidy.
I won't hold
