Is this still a tea time favourite or left in the 1970s?

Love fried eggs, bacon and beans though

SoWhatEh · 09/07/2023 21:27

We have it but not often. Eggs poached in water and oven chips so not as fatty, with a big side salad or peas, carrots and broccoli.

LBOCS2 · 09/07/2023 21:27

Supper of champions in our household, even better if you've got a slice of decent ham you can add to the plate.

HauntedPencil · 09/07/2023 21:27

Phwoar

Not had it ages, but I bloody love egg and chips! Would far rather have that for tea than a takeaway 😁

Has weird happy memories for me as well! I can remember, aged 4, going to Spain with my auntie and uncle. Each night, we would go out for tea. For the entire 2 weeks, all I ate for tea was egg and chips 😂

you should be ashamed.

One of my favourites. Even 50 years later 😁

Is this a typo? It can't be 50 years since the 1970s. It's only twenty, surely!

LBOCS2 · 09/07/2023 21:28

I was thinking exactly the same @MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff 😂

Jakadaal · 09/07/2023 21:29

Another favourite here - egg, chips and beans.

febbabies2023 · 09/07/2023 21:29

I was born in the 90's and EVERY Monday without fail as a kid, my parents gave us ham, egg and chips

I can't stand it now, will never be a dinner in my house 🤢

noctiscaelum · 09/07/2023 21:30

I am a foreigner, and no way. That's the reason why English food get such a bad name. Protein and carb. No veg. Horrible.

RunningOnHope · 09/07/2023 21:30

It's egg, chips and cheese in our house. Soft boiled eggs, pile of grated cheese, homemade chips and ketchup to stick it all together on each forkful.

BigFatLiar · 09/07/2023 21:31

We still have this sometimes egg chips and sausage (maybe even baked beens). Always a teatime favourite wuth the grandchildren though sometimes it's with fish fingers or chicken pieces rather than sausages.

bonfirebash · 09/07/2023 21:32

I love it
With some thick ham, brown sauce and a brew

PuppyMonkey · 09/07/2023 21:32

We have chips and egg like Shirley Valentine.

Jomummy1013 · 09/07/2023 21:33

Really fancying this now! My nan used to make this for me when I was a child in the 90s. Haven't had it for years. ❤️

PowerTulle · 09/07/2023 21:35

Ooooh yes! With a massive dollop of home made green tomato chutney on the side.

If I’m on my own I sometimes break out a tin of corned beef and add a slice or two. Full ‘70’s vibes.

Jomummy1013 · 09/07/2023 21:36

I'm funny about eggs now though, I don't like the white squiggly bit attached to the yolk or if you get the odd 'blood' spot. 🤮🤮 I don't even know if it is blood tbf.
So I wouldn't enjoy it now but I did used to do much.

A 'big side salad' with egg and chips?

Peak MN.

BiddyPop · 09/07/2023 21:39

Ooh, fav. Often do egg and home fries (leftover boiled potatoes sliced and fried up) for lunch here if I have the chance!

bonfirebash · 09/07/2023 21:39

I'm hoping the poached eggs is a joke.. Blush

That's like saying oh I love a ryvita with low fat spread on a thread about toast and butter
It's not the same thing. I don't eat it often but if I want fried egg and chips, I'm not trying to make it healthy

Sorry to break to you, but I am a foreigner too and guess what? We eat the same dish here. We should all be ashamed of ourselves!

It's absolutely delicious! On my list for next week's dinner!
