Bleach - Where do you actually use bleach clean around the house?

Exactly that really. Where do you actually use bleach to clean around the house?

I see on my bleach bottle instructions it suggests bleach can be used to clean toilets, kitchen/bathroom drains, sinks, floors, and work surfaces.

Does anyone actually use bleach for those other bits around the house, or do you mainly just use bleach for the toilet?

Nowhere. Not on main drains and bleach stops the break down of waste in the septic tank.

Wow! Skirting boards? Why? Doesn’t it strip the paint off?

Always pop a bit in my mop bucket for cleaning floors, toilets, down the sink

Anywhere really.

Wouldn't use it on kitchen worktops though, not sure why

musixa · 06/07/2023 22:22

Recently used it to clean splashes of sick off the laminate flooring in the loo after I projectile vomited at 2am due to a stomach bug.

5 litres a week of bleach in your home can’t be good for you.

Melonsoup · 06/07/2023 22:25

Toilets, shower tray, round the sinks every so often and if I’m mopping the floor il put a little bit in the water as it just seems to clean things so much better than anything else

Allmyghosts · 06/07/2023 22:28

Floors and toilet mostly. When cleaning bathroom and kitchen floors, I put bleach and washing up liquid in the water, also occasionally bleach the sinks and the shower.

gettingoldisshit · 06/07/2023 22:28

Toilet, sinks, floors, bins.

FussyPud · 06/07/2023 22:29

I don’t, unless somebody has had gut plague.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/07/2023 22:36

Toilet and kitchen sink

Peony654 · 06/07/2023 22:39

Only occasionally the toilet - maybe buy one bottle a year! It’s so toxic

PurpleBugz · 06/07/2023 22:51

Never use bleach it's so bad for the planet. The last bottle I had lasted years as I only used it when there was sick bug in the house

Nomoreheroics · 06/07/2023 22:58

Down the toilet and sometimes plug holes. I use it to clean the grout on tiles too. Nothing else. I use disinfectant and antibacterial spray , Flash and Method cleaners generally.

Yellowdays · 06/07/2023 23:03

Never, because it is damaging to your lungs, especially after contact with water-it releases dangerous fumes.

This seems excessive 🤔

Hbh17 · 06/07/2023 23:06

Nowhere. I've had my own house for over 30 years and never used bleach - it's unnecessary, the house is clean and we are never ill.

JanesBlond · 06/07/2023 23:08

nowhere, never bought it in my life. I don’t buy any products that say on the back ‘harmful/toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects’ or words to that effect, I just can’t justify it to myself

Maddy70 · 06/07/2023 23:11

Everywhere floors walls, bathrooms. However I live in Spain and it's standard to use bleach on floors as it prevents cockroaches etc

MeinKraft · 06/07/2023 23:14

Sinks, toilets, mugs that have been festering in bedrooms Blush the paddling pool when it turns green. Soak the mop in it. Mop the floor with it if the floor cleaners run out. Clean any mouldy patches around the windows with bleachy water too.

bumblebee2235 · 06/07/2023 23:15

I use in loo and the sink. (I have one sink in kitchen for the dirty water from mopping so like it bleached then rinsed down before then cleaning dishes in it) if I had a utility then I'd use something else.

I also bleach dirty stained dishcloths every so often to get more use out of them.

thaegumathteth · 06/07/2023 23:21

The toilet and if there's a tummy bug then I use it on door handles and taps etc.

ChateauMargaux · 06/07/2023 23:21

I am shocked at so many people using bleach.

Simd1 · 06/07/2023 23:23

I don't ever use bleach anywhere in my house.

Oakbeam · 06/07/2023 23:27

I use it for the loos. I have also used it to scrub our outside picnic bench/table things and turn vertical blinds back to white.

Today I used it to clean out a minging water butt.
