Bleach - Where do you actually use bleach clean around the house?

Exactly that really. Where do you actually use bleach to clean around the house?

I see on my bleach bottle instructions it suggests bleach can be used to clean toilets, kitchen/bathroom drains, sinks, floors, and work surfaces.

Does anyone actually use bleach for those other bits around the house, or do you mainly just use bleach for the toilet?

Toilet, bath, sink, floors, doors, skirting why buy different cleaning products when I can buy 1 that does everywhere.

WandaWonder · 06/07/2023 23:29

If I ever do in the toilet but it is horrible stuff so hardly ever buy it

scrivette · 06/07/2023 23:29

Once a week a squirt under the rim of the loo if I don't have any Harpic.

Those of you who don't use Bleach in the loo what do you use instead? I don't like using bleach.

I’m shocked too. I never use it (apart from at the hairdressers 😂) It stinks and I don’t think it’s good for the environment. My house is clean and we hardly ever get ill. I did get a sick bug last year for about 12 hours but that was the first one of those I’d had in thirty odd years.

5 litres a week is bonkers.

DyslexicPoster · 06/07/2023 23:33

Toilet
Grouting
Dometimes the plugs and overflow
I sometimes put a squint in the dishwasher before I run it hot. I have stoped using the dishwasher cleaner and now use bleach and a splash of flash which is possibly a combination for chlorine gas production, but the doors closed and I only use a splash of both. Dishwasher is clean so I guess it works

Moomoola · 06/07/2023 23:41

I never use bleach, and am shocked at how many of you do! Have you seen the horrible signs on the bottle? It is not nice stuff.
I’ve never used it, nor has my mum and we are all still alive and well.
pp. I leave white vinegar in the loo overnight. It removes any stains.
I scrub the loo with a squirt of dish soap or crap bubble bath. Bleaching under the toilet rim is a nonsense made up by advertisers in the 50s. Who is going to get involved with under the toilet rim, really, when you think about it, why does it need to be germ free?
ditto kitchen surfaces. I chop food on a cutting board that gores in the dishwasher. Why would I need to bleach the surfaces?
aanndd apparently bleach in the washing machine rots the rubber seals and pipes over time. White vinegar works wonders.

AssertiveGertrude · 06/07/2023 23:43

I put a tiny drop into mugs to clean tea stains and also for the toilets (I soak toilet roll and leave It at the hinges) sometimes

crackfoxy · 06/07/2023 23:44

Loo, kitchen sink and white clothing if stained. Sometimes I wash patio down with diluted bleach

Think you answered your own question there!
I buy the Aldi 'eco' toilet cleaner. Can't say I've ever examined the ingredients closely so it's possible I'm just being sucked in by the packaging.

Toilet cleaner! I use ecover power. Unlike bleach it removes limescale too.

Why buy bleach when you can buy something non toxic that does all that? Dilute vinegar!

justasking111 · 06/07/2023 23:50

Down the loo close lid and put bottle on the top. Bath sealant occasionally. I have to open bathroom window otherwise I cough. Stomach bugs everything gets wiped down with a dilute solution.

Bleach becomes inert when exposed to light. I have to be careful with the septic tank.

MerelyPlaying · 06/07/2023 23:50

Only in the loo, and only then occasionally - usually just scrub with the loo brush, as @Moomoola has posted above, you don't need to worry about what's under the rim unless you are going to stick your fingers up there!

I do use a tiny splash when rinsing the cat litter tray - only used when a cat is unwell/there's deep snow outside. Two bottles a year maximum here, I'm horrified at the idea of people using five bottles a week.

scrivette · 06/07/2023 23:51

I suppose I sort of assumed that toilet cleaner is as bad as bleach! I will try the white vinegar and scrubbing a bit more.

Toliet roll trick ?

Yeah if you have black grime on the grout silicone around the shower tray you scrunch up toilet roll on the grime and saturate the toilet paper with bleach. Leave overnight if possible and the grime will be gone. Works well.

honsetly 5 bottles a week? Why in earth do you need to bleach the skirting boards? Do people lick them after cats have weed on them or something?
brown stains in mugs just need a quick wipe with a green scrubby, no need for bleach. I honestly don’t like the idea of it, and if I was going to bleach the floors, ( why? ) it would be if my baby was crawling on the floor. But I’d rather they ate germs than bleach. And do babies really lick the floor? I mean, really?
i grew up drinking water out the loo - we’d catch the fresh water coming into the loo on flushing, not the stuff sitting in the pan - I’m not a total heathen! Not a single tummy bug.😁

Toilet and plug holes every night. Bathroom floor. Grout on tiles in shower. Outside bins every time bin men have emptied them. Laundry for getting out stains on whites. Tea mugs. Teaspoons.

Does vinegar actually get rid of black grime? I do use white vinegar for glass. Not thought of using it around the shower tray for black grime. Seems quite watery to me to perhaps be effective as bleach? Dunno. Maybe I'll give it a go next time.

Yes the black grime is either going to be mould, which vinegar kills, or limescale, which vinegar breaks down.

GodspeedJune · 07/07/2023 00:21

We use it diluted in the carpet shampoo machine.

Cleaning floors and grout.
Sink, either neat around the edges or diluted in a sink filled with water.
Patio after winter when it’s gone all green and mossy.

Why bleach teaspoons? Just pop them into the dishwasher!

Pablova · 07/07/2023 00:26

It gets rarely used here.
Occasionally the toilets get a squirt and the outside bins get a squirt and a hose down every few months.

A friend of mine sprays litres of it and that god awful Zoflora stuff all over her house. It reeks of it, I always get a migraine when there.
