DuncinToffee · 26/06/2023 14:10

In the voice of Cpl Jones.

"Don't panic Capt Sunak"

"Hold your nerve"

"They don't like it up em".

We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

I'm losing the will to live on the "labour will be worse" thread
But just for info jgw the new line appears to be that Welsh Labour are bad so don't vote Labour.

At least they haven’t called you a racist for an entire afternoon. Yes Wales has replaced knowing what a woman is. I guess even they recognise that “Yes, but Corbyn” has run out of road.

I was reading that thread, and I think I recognise that chicken product as a name changer who doesn't likes to be asked questions

I know, that was bad blossom
I do sometimes wonder if there are a lot of paid posts going on. I can't believe that anyone really thinks today's economic woes were caused by Nu Labour

AdamRyan · 04/07/2023 16:00

Anyway blah. I'll stop talking about it.

Don't.
It's horrible.

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2023 16:02

Well the Conservatives have dominated English politics - & what do we have to show for it.

Yes I recognised the 🐓 too.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2023 16:06

Chris Bryant: “Do you think British companies should be trading in Russia at all?”

Sunak: “Some might be divesting”

CB: “Mantrac, which owns Unatrac FZE, sold diggers to Russia this year and you took £5m from its owner…”

RS: “I’m not familiar with the specific company”

https://twitter.com/Zero_4/status/1676235793516437510?s=20

Guess £5m is pocket money to him so no need to remember who gifted it to him

I'd be amazed if there weren't more than zero of them. Not seen that particular thread though.

Ah

This is regarding Tory Party Snr Treasurer Mansour’s who co-owns of Mantrac, which still appeared to have a Russian-language website advertising its services as an authorised dealer of Caterpillar hardware/equipment, + 14 offices in the country.

Mansour donated £5mill to Tories

@AdamRyan you’re doing well on that thread - I can only think of responses that would likely get me banned Grin

@Blossomtoes I saw them turn on you, it was all clearly bullshit, please don’t worry about it Flowers

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2023 16:23

I see Sunak only allocated an hour for the Liaison Committee - about 5 minutes per head of Select Committee.

Far shorter than most Liaison Committee meetings. Looks like a deliberate attempt to swerve questioning.

I guess that and avoiding PMQs signals quite how uncomfortable he is answering questions. Will make pre election debates interesting.

He’s weak. There’s no obvious formula for him to follow that will almost guarantee success.

I’m genuinely not sure he’s got it in him to last to a GE next year. His attraction to the role was all about the power and kudos and he’s losing both rapidly. I don’t think he’s very well practised in being unsuccessful at something.

Roussette · 04/07/2023 16:43

This is hilariously horrendous

Sunak has not read the report. Bryant takes him to task. He looks more pathetic day by day as he ties himself into so many knots about not being able to read a 3 page report

Thank you. It didn’t bother me in the slightest, particularly since one of them supported me - that was an unexpected turn up for the books! It’s a really frustrating thread because they absolutely refuse to acknowledge the shit we’ve had to endure for the last four years. And the “they’re all as bad as each other” makes me want to tear my hair out. 😱

Roussette · 04/07/2023 16:48

@DuncinToffee

So sorry, I see you have linked the "So you haven't read the report" !!

I lost this thread for some reason and am now back but missed your post!

I think he just saw his chance and went for it. Probably had enough sense to realise he wasn't going to be able to hang around in the wings waiting for a suitable opportunity, like his dear predecessor.

But yeah, I think there's a good chance he'll be out on his arse before the next GE, particularly if they go to the end of the parliamentary term. The Tories are panicking.

pointythings · 04/07/2023 17:05

I read two pages of the Labour thread and thought 'paid thread'. They're definitely on the increase. I'm taking it as an encouraging sign of Tory desperation.

But look at the perks for an ex PM! Even Truss. Security for life with a chauffeur driven car in certain circumstances, being able to claim up to £115,000 per annum for life, the best seats in the house for anything (Cameron in the Royal box at Wimbledon today), a chance to reward cronies in the HoL, attendance at any historic or royal event

What a gig

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2023 17:23

I know the Conservatives have traditionally enjoyed a certain friction in their ranks. Maybe once upon a time that sort of worked as the different bands held each other in check.

But this version just can't function.

Nobody can satisfy each groups increasingly bonkers demands without lying their head off and of course that eventually buckles under reality anyway.

As I have said before I really don't like GEs as everything grinds to a halt but given the current inertia we may as well get on with it.

It's a loooong time since it worked for them while they were in government. The last time the Tories were in charge and managed to unite around a leader for any sustained period is the 80s. They just aren't capable of doing it any more. 2010-15 is different because they were in coalition.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2023 17:40

Met Police are opening a new investigation and reopening a separate one about potential breaches of Covid laws.

"Revisited" event is the "jingle and mingle" in CCHQ.

And new event being looked at is on 8 December 2020 - which Bernard Jenkin said to have attended.

I wondered if that might happen re the Bernard Jenkin/wife event. But it's not a sensible tactic for the Tories.

I think sense went out of the window a long time ago.

It had certainly departed by the time they decided to double down on the denials instead of going the mea culpa route.
