Do your teens have single or double beds?

DS needs a new bed. He's nearly 15 and adult sized (6' and broad).

At that age, I really wanted a double bed, just because it seemed grown up.

I don't think it's occurred to him to ask, but as he's adult sized, I imagine he'll be more comfortable in a double.

But is it appropriate? Am I overthinking?!

What do your teens sleep in?

@Fizbosshoes I guess I was lucky not to have a bed wetter or sickly child. Having a double bed has been practical for when family come to stay.

Not all uni rooms are single beds. Many are small doubles.

Those advocating singles it seems to be on grounds of space or cost. If you have large rooms and can afford it it's nicer for the child. DS was 6'4 at 15 and at least he could sleep diagonally in a double.
Yes uni beds in halls are often singles but it's grasping at straws to use that as a reason.

My 12 year old has a double bed. He’s had it since he was five. My 9 year old has two single beds in his room - perfect for sleepovers. However, he’s very tall for his age so I think we will need to get him a double soon as his single has a wooden end and he’ll be knocking his feet on it before long.

I actually prefer a single myself, it feels more secure to me. Actually always wanted a build in cabin bed. I'm in a double so I have the extra space in case family stay that need it, then I'm happy in the single in the box room. If a teen boy is tall he will likely be happier with more space, but this may not be true for a girl. I would (and did) just ask the teen what they want.

DS 14 is in a double. He's 5ft9 and I want bed to last. He was sleeping curled up in single

Double, from aged 14 I think. At 6’3” I think he’ll struggle with the university single from September!

In fact I've only just got rid of my double from when I was a teenager. It was my spare bed (new mattress) when I moved out
Got it at 13 so it lasted 25 years
