Do your teens have single or double beds?

DS needs a new bed. He's nearly 15 and adult sized (6' and broad).

At that age, I really wanted a double bed, just because it seemed grown up.

I don't think it's occurred to him to ask, but as he's adult sized, I imagine he'll be more comfortable in a double.

But is it appropriate? Am I overthinking?!

What do your teens sleep in?

When ours needed a new bed we got him a 4ft small double.

If his room can fit a double bed seems reasonable to get one.

if he is off to uni in 3 years would a double bed be better for other guests when he’s not around?

Why wouldn't it be appropriate? My DC have had king and queen respectively since they were 7-8, they have large rooms and plenty of space so why not?

Singles. I think the move to doubles is bonkers really, they cost more and take up loads of space. My kids are massive. A single bed is fine.

Another 4ft small double. It's an ideal size to sleep in alone IMO.

Dd (12) sleeps in a king size bed and has done for a couple of years now. For a 6ft broad teenager I wouldn't even consider a single bed

My 11 year old just got a small double - fab for when her friends sleepover - really isn't that much bigger than her old single

A small double - couldn't fit a double in the space she wanted to use for her bed so this was the compromise

I'm hoping we will have moved by then.

But yes, it would mean more flexibility when we have guests - DS doesn't mind playing musical beds for family members / family friends he knows and loves.

Ours have had doubles since they were 10 and 12. Singles would have been fine but their rooms had space and knew they'd love them so wanted to treat them. Plus figured would work for guests if we ever needed it. Only problem is now getting them out of them!

Double since she was eight. She’s tiny but it just gives her more space. She loves it!

Single currently but only because we are getting a super king for ourselves soon and will be then giving him our double frame and getting him a new mattress then too. 5'12 at 14 so he's going to be tall so will want the space to stretch out

Mine was in his double from 13. He needed the room as he was taller than me at that age. If I'm in a double then surely he should be.

I don't want to sleep in a single bed myself and I'm not a large 6ft person.

We moved last year and the bedrooms are big!

We made the conscious decision to put doubles/kings in the kids bedrooms as we're constantly playing musical beds, it's perfect for sleepovers, when we have guests to stay there's room, reading stories, when kids are sick and you want to sleep with them etc

They were 5 & 6.

Buy the biggest bed that comfortably fits the room.

He's in a double, has been since he was about 12.

Our DDs (10 and 7) currently share a room though choice so have singles, but when they move into their own rooms we'll get them doubles too. It makes it all much more flexible and sleepovers much easier!

If the room is big enough, why on earth wouldn’t you? My 6, 9 and 11 years olds all have a double bed. They love it - one side for them and the other side for all their teddies! Or when a friend sleeps over they can both go on the bed with two sleeping bags.

Ds is 14 and about 5ft 8, I’ve offered him a small double and he refuses as he says he loves his (single) bed!

Small double beds here
big enough for two for the odd night and plenty of space for one. Keeps more floor space .

Doubles since they were 11 or so. If there's space in the room, go for the double. I have the smallest bedroom in the house and still have a double all to myself. They really don't cost much more than a single and offer you flexibility for overnight guests when the kids leave home.

All my 3 have small doubles. 1 teen, 2 pre teen. If you have the space you should definitely get him a double

Ds moved from his single room to one of the larger rooms when he was 10, and it already had a double bed so he had that by default. I can't think of a reason not to.

My DC were in bunkbeds until they went to university.
