Just got a newsletter from our Tory MP through the door! God imagine going out in daylight delivering those!

Is it coloured green without the word 'Conservative' on it?!

the80sweregreat · 19/06/2023 10:36

Are the 'by elections' paid for by the council ? Or is it tax payers money ?
It must cost a fair amount to organize and set up.

Paid for by the local authority. I don’t think they’re particularly expensive, the process is the same every time and pretty easy to set in train.

the80sweregreat · 19/06/2023 10:49

Oh ok, I just thought that the printing costs and staff checking ID might cost a bit, but guess it's not too horrendous

tobee · 19/06/2023 11:02

First thing I asked my ds as he picked it up @Roussette. It was (mostly) blue and did mention the conservatives.

Thread 25, Sunak - Peerages, Privileges & the Covid Inquiry
Roussette · 19/06/2023 12:12

Sunak was ridiculous this morning when asked about the vote today. Completely robotic and however the interview worded it he literally repeated the same sentence again and again and again

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 12:41

Listening to a caller to LBC this morning who referred to the ‘moron risk premium’ affecting the UK economy.

I’d not heard of it before but it seems to me the only solution is to remove anyone even slightly associated with this government for the last five+ years if we’re going to restore any kind of faith in our economy any time soon.

He really is extremely bad at this.

Rishi Sunak is not planning to attend the debate and potential vote on whether Boris Johnson should be sanctioned for lying to Parliment.

His spokesman repeatedly refuses to say what Sunak's views are and says he doesn't want to "influence" whatever other MPs decide.

Rishi Sunak's spokesman also refuses to say what the Prime Minister thinks about whether people who have been filmed partying and breaking the law during lockdown should still receive honours from the state.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 19/06/2023 13:18

Why doesn't he want to influence other MP, isn't that what leadership is all about? Actually leading.

I agree. Especially when the report has specifically outlined the kind of ‘influence’ that was exerted on the committee.

Its obvious (to me anyway) that any ‘free’ vote will be influenced in the same way but without their own leader prepared to have their backs if they disagree.

I'm really disappointed in him. Yes I knew he was just ex chancellor Tory but I thought he would be stronger and more prepared to put his party in order.

Weak weak weak. This weakness will come back to bite him on the arse. The party are running rings round him

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/06/2023 14:57

16:15 for the debate. Next item 19:45 so 3.5 hours for the debate and any potential vote

July 20 is now a triple by-election day (David Warburton seat vote to be scheduled for then)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/06/2023 16:30

At least Mordaunt has said she will support the motion. One Tory with a backbone.

Notonthestairs · 19/06/2023 17:28

That’s embarrassing if you happen to have been whining about how Harman was biased for the last week.

How many Tories do we think will have a spine? Mordant? Noakes?

That or an eye on the leadership.

It really feels like there’s a lot of relief coming out about finally being able to stand up and call a spade a spade.

StormShadow · 19/06/2023 19:03

On that broader point, I wonder how many people would've guessed in summer 2019 that it'd be Theresa May having the last laugh?

My DD sent me this. Amazing that Sir Ian McKellan can turn up. Unlike Tory MPs
