Nadine Dorries, a tragedy in 4 acts.

The lights dim as our play begins...

Nothing like being consistent.

They just can not keep up with their own rhetoric.

Oh Nadine (& Nigel & Alok) you were played just like everyone else.

"Update: Boris Johnson was informed that Nadine Dorries’s peerage had been rejected as far back as February, senior government sources have said, contradicting claims that the former PM was unaware his nominations had been blocked until recently"

"Staggering statistics. Real average weekly earnings are same today as in November 2005.

A completely unprecedented period with no earnings growth. Hard to compare but likely this has not happened over any comparable period since Napoleonic wars."

I’m confused about what she thought was going to happen.

The problems of deferred peerages for sitting MPs - potential embarrassment for the King, problems of setting a damaging constitutional precedent - has been discussed for at least 6 months, but she initially announced last week that she wasn’t going to stand down until the next election. Why did she expect to be on the list?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/06/2023 16:33

Because Boris is a bullshitter and she's a useful idiot.

StormShadow · 13/06/2023 16:37

Poor Nads!

Notonthestairs · 13/06/2023 16:41

Johnson will have spun her some twaddle about him having some leverage to make it so.

I imagine Johnson believed he could strong arm Sunak because a) Sunak has been tiptoeing around Johnson for the last 8 months and b) Johnson had been content to ignore HOLAC when he appointed Lebedev.

Johnson has never complied with procedure and doesn't care about precedent. Details, details.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 13/06/2023 16:44

Or of course the whole peerage drama may well be a concocted confection to distract from the impending report.

Roussette · 13/06/2023 16:59

I wonder what their relationship is like now?
Nads and BJ that is

the80sweregreat · 13/06/2023 17:06

If ND doesn't officially resign, can she sort of just pretend nothing happened and stay on?
Would that be allowed ?

Notonthestairs · 13/06/2023 17:07

Well given she's only voted 4 times in the last 11 months maybe nobody would notice?

Johnson playing games here

NEW: Late-night letter from Boris Johnson to Privileges committee appears to have delayed report release.

"A letter enclosing further representations from Mr Johnson was received by the committee at 11:57pm last night. The committee is dealing with these & will report promptly".

Kiwano · 13/06/2023 17:46

Current members of the House of Lords must be profoundly grateful that they don't have to welcome Lady Nad into the Chamber.

Oh good grief. He had the chance to make representations last week didn't he? Why has he left until now?

I suppose there will be more self pitying waffle blaming everyone else.

'We don't know why Nadine hasn't resigned. She said she was going to do it with 'immediate effect on Friday afternoon before Boris and Nigel

'But we don't want to wait around, we want to get on with these things'

By-elections in Johnson’s seat and Adams’s seat likely to be 13 July (or maybe 20th) because Tory party will move writs tmrw

Peston

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2023 19:08

The impression all this forms is that the report is absolutely devastating.

(Rather than Johnson's lawyers' submissions, despite what was briefed by Johnson's "friends".)

And Johnson is doing everything he can to discredit and derail the report before publication.

Notonthestairs · 13/06/2023 20:02

Boris Johnson said: ‘The Privileges Committee should publish their report and let the world judge their nonsense. They have no excuse for delay. Their absurdly unfair rules do not even allow any criticism of their findings. I have made my views clear to the committee in writing - and will do so more widely when they finally publish’

Boris Johnson is preparing a line-by-like rebuttal of the Privileges Committee’s report

He intends to publish it when the report is made public

He and his lawyers have been working on it since he received the draft findings last week

Meanwhile mortgage crisis, CoL, strike action, delays in A&E etc etc.
what a waste of a Government they are.
