I don't know. We have been here mostly from the start and learned to recognise the signs. A lot of people haven't had that experience and 1) think we are being vicious (well, we are, when we suspect a shill) and 2) probably think we are being paranoid.

I do sometimes worry that people with genuine questions/concerns that perhaps go against the grain might be put off posting. With shills we can be savage 😂

I feel comfortable with our collective ability to recognise bad faith posting as opposed to innocent ignorance.

There are paid disinformation propagandists in St Petersburg, Yoshgar-Ola etc. They are real. They are part of the war effort.

There are fellow travellers, some of whom live in a Soviet bubble / America Bad / Tankie land. Plus their real and/or spiritual spawn.

Then there's the goady troll. They like to be contrarian. They often like to set you homework and require citations for everything.

Not everyone acts in good faith. My default setting with incomers is generally neutral until I spot a drift in either direction.

There is a lot of disinformation, and people often don't recognize that it's rubbish and/or deliberate propaganda. Like the person who posted the link to the Youtube video on the last thread that stated that DU (depleted uranium) munitions would sterilize Ukrainian agricultural land for hundreds of years. It's pretty obvious nonsense, but people see it and get taken in.

We are quite tame compared to some of the Twitter replies I have seen for Russian trolls!

Right now, I have the popcorn out for the political commentary on Johnson's resignation and I am keeping my fingers crossed for good news from Ukraine.

Very curious video of two men sitting at a well laid table in Sochi (all a bit Mar-a-Lago with an awning and a breeze, perhaps there's a wedding party expected later, but it is Putin's residence).
