Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?

CriticalAlert · 28/05/2023 18:10

I was looking at some pictures of Kate before she got married. She looked stunning, had style, was really chic and sexy.
Now she looks quite frumpy. The pink dress she wore at the Chelsea Flower show looked better on her mum, because it's a dress for a middle aged woman! WHY is Kate forced into dowdiness? She looks great in trousers and well cut jackets. She's a beautiful woman, are 'they' concerned she might look a bit too good and not be taken seriously? It's like queen Elizabeth. She was beautiful but her clothes were dreadful. Obviously this is my opinion but I'd like to know what others think.

Bit of a Stepford wife, not a hair out of place, smile permanently plastered

I think the big question is why in 2023 is that what society wants & expects from someone in her role. The biggest praise you see about her is "she never puts a foot wrong". Society doesn't want her to be anything but a Stepford wife, why? I feel sorry for her.

Totally agree. She's admired because she's 'perfect'

Meghan, Bea and Eugenie can look good but it requires carefully planned, expensive wardrobe and food choices to work with their shapes and sizes.
When they gain weight it really shows. Kate is lucky because she is tall and slender.

Seriously disgusting comment here, yes they may not be tiny but I'd hardly say morbidly obese. No wonder women have so many issues! Smh.

I'm fairly certain that Meghan would be described as slim and athletic by the vast majority of people.

Imagine meeting her at the school gate and having to describe her afterwards... what else would you call her? Curvy? Chubby?!

Meghan & the others will actually be much smaller in real life. Meghan has got really slim limbs in photos so she will be tiny no doubt.

I'd hardly call Meghan curvy, except maybe when she was pregnant. Most of the times I've seen her she looked slim. Mind you I've noticed alot on MN how people say how lovely and thin Kate is and how Meghan is chunky ... go figure 🤦🏻‍♀️ Maybe people should have to post naked pictures of themselves when they male derogatory comments about other people's bodies 🤔

Seriously... I'm no fan of Meghan so read a lot of the Meghan threads. And I can't recall anyone ever calling her chunky.

In a discussion of her fashion choices, people might observe how she fits clothes, as she has a short, square torso. But she is by no means 'chunky'.

Maybe not chunky, but definitely on the bigger side is implied and that she doesn't have a good figure by comparison. I find it weird as I think she looks great. I'm no fan either, but can recognise a beautiful person when I see one.

shivawn · 31/05/2023 08:47

I don't care how she dresses but it's not my style. I've never seen a photo of her and been like oooh wonder where that's from?

Elphame · 31/05/2023 09:26

I saw the pictures of the Spanish queen yesterday. A very similar style dress to the one that Kate was wearing at the CFS but she managed to look very chic.

That's funny, I never said anybody was "morbidly obese" either! I said that Kate is naturally slim. What's controversial about that? If I had mentioned Bea and Eug only then you wouldn't have jumped in would you?

Takoneko · 31/05/2023 09:33

Some of these people making comments about the figures of Meghan, Bea, Sophie etc would probably be in for an unpleasant surprise if they were to stand next to them. 😂

Yes, they are not quite as slim as Kate but I think people don’t realise just how tiny she is. I remember her once being photographed next to Nicole Kidman (who was regularly the subject of articles at the time speculating over whether she was too thin) and Kate was significantly smaller. She has a very narrow frame. You only have to look at the pictures taken of the Duchess of Edinburgh with groups of teenage schoolgirls in Iran to see that, by any normal measure, she’s a very slim woman.

Cyclingmummy1 · 31/05/2023 09:33

@TheMoth agree, it's a uniform. I have this conversation every year with my class. They complain, I ask them what I wear and they say purple, pink, and long blue skirts. Which pretty much sums it up 😆. I wore brown jeggings and a pink hoodie on own clothes day and they looked me up and down and said 'you don't normally look like... that. It's very... casual'. That from a class of seven year olds. Imagine being the PoW.

Absolutely...there was a post ages ago and someone had seen Beatrice shopping...said she was absolutely tiny. Camilla looks quite dumpy in photos and in tv but someone said she is actually very thin in real life. Cameras add pounds. I remember that photo of Late and Nicole Kidman...it's a shocker

Comedycook · 31/05/2023 10:29

*kate not late!

Comedycook · 31/05/2023 10:32

I said that Kate is naturally slim

What does naturally slim mean?

SemperIdem · 31/05/2023 10:41

Meghan seems to have better style, perhaps because she has always been freer to dress as she wishes, or because what she wears appeals to me most.

She is very slim, as Kate is, but with a different body type. She is apple shaped so so has extremely slender limbs with a wider torso. Kate is more rectangle shaped so long and lean through both her torso and limbs .

Elior · 31/05/2023 10:41

Kate has an extremely narrow frame and has a very low percentage of body fat. This probably does make the other royals look bigger when stood near her because they are all regular sized people. So what really? Is it honest to pretend that the all have that advantage as well when they clearly don't?

Comedycook · 31/05/2023 10:50

No they are probably much smaller than regular people...Kate is just even smaller

Elior · 31/05/2023 10:57

I don't think people should be horrified when Kate is described as being extremely slim as if it is a slight against the others. I remember what Bea and Euge looked like in their 20s and I admire how much work it must have taken for them to look like they do now.

I hope he won't look as terrified as he did on his first day at his primary school. Took William an age to get him out of the car. Poor kid.

@CriticalAlert - do you think George was bribed with a MCDonalds after school if he went in without fussing, likeDC around here are? Grin

Hahaha. Quite possibly....... I did feel sorry for him though. All that press attention on a scary day for him.

@ShippingNews @bathty
Thank you for the solidarity posts.
We need to build each other up, not point out perceived flaws. ❤️

You know what? You are absolutely right! I started this thread but it wasn't a body shaming attack on Kate. I just thought she looked frumpy. I was quite surprised at how many women were quick to say that Kate is too skinny, no boobs.... and made nasty comments on other females in the royal family. Us girls need a bit more solidarity. We are what we are and should love ourselves more. X

@Comedycook , someone not predisposed to putting on body fat.

I have relatives like this. Strangely enough, they do plenty of exercise and don't eat between meals or overeat, but not deliberately to stay slim.

But all human beings will put on body fat in certain circumstances...ie eating more than they expend. Kate isn't some mythical creature who is incapable of gaining weight. She obviously exercises a lot and I'm sure she is incredibly careful with what she eats.

KirstenBlest · 31/05/2023 15:04

@Comedycook , I don't think so. As I said, I have relatives like that, and friends, and they just don't seem to overeat, and are very sporty.

I also have naturally not-slim relatives and they eat huge portions and will glafly eat things like cakes between meals.

It's not necessarily down to genetics or upbringing, as some of them have chubby siblings.

I've noticed that there is a difference in what slim people and not-slim people eat.
