Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?

CriticalAlert · 28/05/2023 18:10

I was looking at some pictures of Kate before she got married. She looked stunning, had style, was really chic and sexy.
Now she looks quite frumpy. The pink dress she wore at the Chelsea Flower show looked better on her mum, because it's a dress for a middle aged woman! WHY is Kate forced into dowdiness? She looks great in trousers and well cut jackets. She's a beautiful woman, are 'they' concerned she might look a bit too good and not be taken seriously? It's like queen Elizabeth. She was beautiful but her clothes were dreadful. Obviously this is my opinion but I'd like to know what others think.

I liked Kate's wedding dress.

But the veil admittedly wasn't my cup if tea. Especially how it was draped over the top and back of her head (after it was pulled back from the face). It looked a bit lumpy IMO....

@LynetteScavo , they are not upper class, they are royal

CriticalAlert · 30/05/2023 12:47

To be royal is to be at the top of the upper class. So they are upper class. I wonder will George go to Eton soon? I hope he won't look as terrified as he did on his first day at his primary school. Took William an age to get him out of the car. Poor kid.

@CriticalAlert , it doesn't work like that. Royalty is a separate class.

In my opinion it’s generally her daywear that can be hit or miss, casual or full on evening wear she pretty much gets it right apart from those hideous opera gloves! She always looks great in a Jenny Packham frock, this one is my favourite, I think this was her first evening engagement after her wedding and I remember thinking at the time she looked so much better in this than on her wedding day.

A lot of Kates looks are fantastic, sure she has some misses. I do love it though when she wears something a little more fashion forward than safe. I’d like to see her wearing more up and coming British designers, than the same handful of regular labels.

Anyone who thinks she doesn’t pick her own clothes, that’s just ludicrous. Why wouldn't she?

@CriticalAlert - do you think George was bribed with a MCDonalds after school if he went in without fussing, likeDC around here are? Grin

She is a middle aged woman !
This is her job, so she has a uniform . It is a restrained style of dress, but that is the point of it .

AnotherDayOfSun · 30/05/2023 15:46

I think she always looks elegant and classy. She is the future Queen, how tarted up is she expected to look?? If anything, she is a great example to young women that they can dress to look beautiful but still self-respecting and dignified.

Elior · 30/05/2023 15:53

If she is getting it wrong then I'd like to know who is getting it right IYO?

Meghan almost always gets it badly wrong, despite wearing very expensive outfits.

Zara, Bea, Sophie and Eugenie also look frumpier than Kate.
Who is getting it right?

Meghan’s clothes don’t fit properly. She needs to get them fitted.

Beatrice generally looks lovely these days. She really found her style.

Zara often looks lovely. Can look a bit trussed up sometimes

Ellie450 · 30/05/2023 18:20

Could some of you post more pictures of the frumpy/dowdy outfits? Admittedly I don’t follow them/pay attention, but of the outfits I’ve seen I can’t recall any of them being particularly bad or frumpy.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 30/05/2023 19:18

Agree about Beatrice she has really come into her own style wise.

NeverendingCircus · 30/05/2023 19:27

I don't think she looks frumpy at all in that pink dress. She looks gorgeous but painfully thin.

SunnyEgg · 30/05/2023 19:29

The pink dress doesn’t look good on the model for the site

Kate looks good as she can take that much volume in skirt and the skinny belt saves it

Elior · 30/05/2023 19:35

Meghan, Bea and Eugenie can look good but it requires carefully planned, expensive wardrobe and food choices to work with their shapes and sizes.
When they gain weight it really shows. Kate is lucky because she is tall and slender.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/05/2023 03:28

I think women should stop criticizing the appearance of other women.

Whenharrymetsmelly · 31/05/2023 04:14

I wouldn't say she was frumpy, she always looks lovely, although her style isn't out there. But fair enough, she plays her role well and that's why so many adore her. Bit of a Stepford wife, not a hair out of place, smile permanently plastered. She looks better than most!

Agree with this. She is so thin now, it's odd how people praise her on being so slender. She looked lovely about 10 years ago, when she was slim but not painfully so, it's almost concerning

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 29/05/2023 19:40

Oh come on now, McQueen did a technically beautiful job on Kate's wedding dress and to be fair to her, it couldn't be too trendy, look how badly Diana and Sarah's dresses dated.

Lobed Kate's wedding dress, she was stunning!

This. Women have always been our own worst enemies. I doubt that you'd ever hear a group of men criticising William's clothing choices.

I think Kate makes very careful food choices as well, tbh...

This is an incredibly outdated view. It's weird the obsession that thin is everything. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Ms , Bs, E & K figures regardless of their weight. And they all have to pay attention to food choices & clothing proportions.

bathty · 31/05/2023 05:55

I think the big question is why in 2023 is that what society wants & expects from someone in her role. The biggest praise you see about her is "she never puts a foot wrong". Society doesn't want her to be anything but a Stepford wife, why? I feel sorry for her.
