Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?

CriticalAlert · 28/05/2023 18:10

I was looking at some pictures of Kate before she got married. She looked stunning, had style, was really chic and sexy.
Now she looks quite frumpy. The pink dress she wore at the Chelsea Flower show looked better on her mum, because it's a dress for a middle aged woman! WHY is Kate forced into dowdiness? She looks great in trousers and well cut jackets. She's a beautiful woman, are 'they' concerned she might look a bit too good and not be taken seriously? It's like queen Elizabeth. She was beautiful but her clothes were dreadful. Obviously this is my opinion but I'd like to know what others think.

It's the way you are implying that she eats like a bird and spends a lot of time exercising to stay slim. Maybe she does, but there are plenty of people who don't. I'd guess that she probably is naturally sporty and not an overeater.
Her immediate family looks tall and lean, her kids look tall and lean.

I doubt that you would say that say the King or PoW are only slim because they exercise a lot and watch what they eat.

bathty · 31/05/2023 15:17

So what really? Is it honest to pretend that the all have that advantage as well when they clearly don't?

What advantage? Some of us just don't see being extremely narrow frame and has a very low percentage of body fat than others regular sized people as an advantage. Or regular sized people having an advantage over small frames. Some of these views are so archaic & regressive.

There are not plenty of women in their forties with three kids who are as slim as Kate...least of all as slim as Kate without putting in any effort

@Comedycook , you are right , of course. If she didn't work out and eat very carefully she'd be huge. Obese even.

Well it depends...if she worked out slightly less and ate slightly more she'd probably get bigger, as we all would...if she gorged on takeaways and never moved and went through a multipack of crisps and endless chocolate bars each day, like most people it wouldn't take long before she was overweight and maybe obese.

Sceptre86 · 31/05/2023 15:32

She could be more daring as she has a great figure. So she doesn't always need to go for a midi dress or long sleeves for example but then at engagements she is bending down a lot so maybe it's easier. When she has been photographed out and about she does wear sleeveless clothes, different hemlines, more relaxed clothing. At Royal engagements it's like going to work for her so understandable that she has a uniform of sorts. I do think she looks frumpy sometimes as if she doesn't wear the most flattering clothes.

I do think the Duchess of Sussex dresses better as does Queen Letizia of Spain and Crown princess Mary of Denmark.

@Comedycook , you sound obsessed, and that you would actually like her to have an eating disorder.

I'm merely acknowledging that for the majority of people to be that slim will require a huge amount of discipline around food and a considerable amount of exercise.

KirstenBlest · 31/05/2023 17:26

Is that a fact, @Comedycook? Not everyone likes takeaways, crisps cakes etc. My slim female friends and relatives have 2/3/4 kids and are tall and slim. They're ectomorphs. They've always been tall and slim.

So naturally slim doesn't mean naturally slim. What you mean is some people have naturally smaller appetites or naturally prefer healthier food?

Comedycook · 31/05/2023 18:20

And yes there are different body shapes but no one is immune to putting on weight if they overeat.

MilitantMommyBFArmy4Life · 31/05/2023 18:44

Or some thin people simply prefer heathy food or have smaller appetites. Meanwhile, others can eat what they like and not gain weight.

I'm in the second category and height plays a good-sized role I imagine.

Both types of thin people definitely exist!

Comedycook · 31/05/2023 19:12

Depends what you mean by what they like....

But people who can eat infinite calories and not put on weight are very few and far between

Octomingo · 31/05/2023 20:49

I could eat what I liked in my 20s. Had the same height and measurements as sophia loren, so never Kate thin. I still have the same measurements in my 40s, only everything has dropped a bit and my waist has an extra inch. But I can't eat what I like anymore.

And as for 'naturally slim', isn't everybody naturally slim? We just fill them with unnatural stuff.

We're utterly conditioned to criticize each other - and do it in many different ways without realizing it.
"concern" for looking too slim/overweight is just one more way and it's rife on this thread;
comments about dress/hair/makeup regardless of approval. It's all part of keeping women in a certain place societally and makes us more apt to purchase "beauty" products etc. Just some thoughts. (It also feeds the Meaghan/Kate rivalry, but that's another conversation, although it's also evidenced here)

I still have nightmares about Meghan's green voluminous floaty cape, green Robin Hood cap, worn with.the voluminous green dress. And as for the white belted coat and white floppy hat...dear God! She is a dreadful dresser.

Sceptre86 · 07/07/2023 10:27

@SammyScrounge she gets it wrong sometimes as do we all but she isn't afraid to take a risk.

KirstenBlest · 07/07/2023 10:52

@Comedycook , as others have pp, most people are naturally slim, but lifestyle and diet means they aren't slim.

My slim friends and family don't want to eat between meals or eat stodgy food and huge meals, and tend to enjoy exercise. They're not all tall and slender, but the ones who aren't are shorter and lean.

I can generally eat what I like, but I am lucky in that I love salads and veg, and don't really like cakes, biscuits, bread, chips, pasta, rice, cream etc. A piece of cake or takeaway is nice occasionally, but maybe once or twice a year is fine, and I don't really want to eat if I'm not hungry I also like the buzz from doing exercise like running or weights.

PoW is tall and slim, and is obviously sporty. She'd probably be tall and slim even if she was just 'Kate next door' because she probably doesn't want to stuff herself with lots of crappy food.

I see lots of overweight children where I live. They're the ones who are walking home from school eating a magnum bar (in February!) or a packet of pringles, or walking down the high street guzzling an energy drink or shovelling down a pasty or burger.

LINDAHOAD · 12/08/2024 08:16

she needs to getaway from the emily wickstead solid block coat dresses and her designs they are so frumpy - what about some french designers.
