Just seen on Instagram that PS is stepping down with immediate effect from This morning!
I mean, I'm not that bothered but there's been lots of speculation recently re his brother's conviction and the rumoured spat with Holly but I thought it would probably all blow over.
I'm sure he's got a bob or two is loaded but I'm still a bit surprised if I'm honest.

Thanks @dayswithaY - I guess that makes sense.

How / why are MPs questioning this? What right do they have? Nothing illegal has been claimed and ITV is a private company?!

I'm no PS fan by the way, but don't understand this!

Ridiculous. The Tories will do anything to reflect from their shitshow. They must be fucking loving this

Braverman won't even turn up to an Urgent Question about her remit

Grooming, exploitation, staff concerns ignored, people who asked questions were sacked, cash pay off made to young staff member, ITV said they spoke to the young man about the relationship with Phil, young man denies this, so presumably ITV lied.

And that’s just for starters, more to come between now and next week I imagine.

Yet there's like 60 MPs accused of sexual misconduct, at least three of which were in the cabinet at the time? Why don't they start there?

MPs are right: This Morning is a hotbed of scandal. Thank goodness parliament isn’t | Marina Hyde

The ‘not illegal’ woes of daytime telly are gripping the nation. Who better to opine than our squeaky-clean representatives, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

@PerfectYear321 Self preservation? Self interest? Distraction? All of the above?

This world is a depressing place.

OneFrenchEgg · 30/05/2023 23:04

These celebrities really have fooled many of us. It’s all fake. Disappointing isn’t the right word really.

You're right, It's disappointing but more than that, the seriousness isn't reflected in disappointment.

because anyone who has ever worked in or had anything to do with television knows what a corrupt money driven industry it is. It's money and profit above all else at the expense of human commodities. It's about time this got exposed and shown to the general public because that is how working conditions improve.

Television makes working for Gordon Gecko look like a quiet time down the abbey knitting with the mother superior.

Absolutely agree. It's all a facade and very corrupt in every way.

BonesBrennanz · 31/05/2023 10:56

If there are criminal allegations surely the police should be asking the questions not (equally corrupt) MPs?

Aquarius1234 · 31/05/2023 11:35

I wonder how long it took for MM to start going to PS s flat after initially starting a job there.
DID MM tell his parents he would go to PS flat?, its very dodgy, could be a bbc drama for sure.

I've never ever heard the term stud being used to mean a man is being passed around.

I agree. If there is grooming then that’s obviously horrific. Ranj calling him a stud isn’t concerning to me and feels like a reach compared to the other actually serious concerns.

yep, exactly - someone being referred to in a jokey way as a stud is a non-story (as a comment on its own)

What I can't understand is why his wife is still supporting him. Apparently he's been asking both wife and his mother for advice re this recent crisis. It's hard enough to believe that after so many years of marriage she so meekly accepts that, actually, he prefers men to his loving wife, but to continue standing by him when the man who 'never keeps secrets' from her has revealed he's lied about an affair (not just a quick one, but an on and off one), it goes beyond unbelievable to just plain Weird.

I keep wondering whether she has known for years too and has been happy to go along with it to continue their lovely life, if that makes sense

His wife knew for years. PS was open about his sexuality to friends, family and colleagues. The only people he didn’t tell was his audience.

That’s why the likes of HW, EH and DW are being very careful in what they say because they had known he was gay for decades.

The 'public' message is that she only found out in 2020, or rather, in the months leading up to his announcement in Feb of that year. We can choose to believe that or laugh at it, secure in the 'knowledge' that it's been an open secret for years. But regardless of whether or not she knew all along, it's the fact that she's being so supportive that puzzles me. She could continue her 'lovely' life just by keeping her head down, but she's doing more than just going along with it. Family hols to Paris, partnering him for events even after he came out. In fact, she wouldn't even have to go along with it at all - she would be able to get an enormous divorce settlement, enough to finance a lovely enough life.

But is there "proof" that he was open to friends and colleagues, as everyone is denying that?

JenniferBooth · 31/05/2023 13:53

Some twat has just phoned Talk TV and said Phil has done nothing wrong. I bet a penny to a pinch of shit people would not be saying this if it was a woman in her 50s and a teenage lad.

JenniferBooth · 31/05/2023 13:57

And i bet you the reaction would also depend on whether said woman looked like Amanda Holden or Therese Coffey.

letthemalldoone · 31/05/2023 13:58

Maybe it was his mummy...!!!

I agree. There’s a video of Schofield and this lad sat at a table in a cafe. It’s shocking how young the lad actually was.

GuitarRookie · 31/05/2023 14:07

@Linkstolondon yes, I know the video and it's really quite disturbing. It was when it was just a rumour, but now it's been admitted it's creepy as it gets.

yep, someone I know said similar - "It's just an affair, it happens all the time."
I asked if she'd be fine if her impressionable son met a very powerful guy in his 50s, who subsequently took him out for lunches/nights out, got him a job, then had an affair with him, then paid him off and made him change job when they split?

Also, in a local school to me a female teacher was struck off DM'ing/chatting with a 17yr old student, yet a male only teacher got suspended for sleeping with one!! (Neither are OK, obv, but one is worse than the other - yet was treated more leniently)

STLLAP08 · 31/05/2023 16:59

I always thought there was something dodgy about him and I was right

dayswithaY · 30/05/2023 22:18

@Gothambutnotahamster I dunno how these things work but I’m guessing it’s in the public interest as This Morning have unfettered access to people at home for hours a day. If the organisation is rotten to the core maybe that’s something that should be looked into.

To be honest MPs would do better looking at themselves, inc the unnamed Tory MP who’s been bailed for rape and I imagine is still working. 🤷‍♀️. Plenty of Other MPs have had to resign for sex scandals and even be jailed for sexual assault of underage boys.

So not sure they’re in any position to look at ITV. Maybe This Morning could do a segment on rapey MPs.
